In this day and age, singers and performers can make a quick buck on the side by selling their music catalog. Justin Bieber’s done it, Katy Perry’s done it, but Jon Bon Jovi won’t do it. And the answer all comes back to money.
Jon Bon Jovi – Says Their Music Catalog Has “Grown Exponentially” Through The Years
You won’t find Jon Bon Jovi in the lineup of the people who want to sell their music catalogs. Nope, keep the huge one-off payday, this star’s going to keep the rights to his music.
Bon Jovi has a mentor in former songwriting partner Richie Sambora, who sold his catalog in 2020 after exiting the band in 2013. This included his copyright to hits that he co-wrote with the frontman.
While Bon Jovi and Sambora may be chill, the former has no intentions to follow in the latter’s footsteps.

It’s hard to picture so many rock bands without the lead vocalist and guitarist pairings: Mick and Keith, Steven and Joe, Jon and Richie…But not all of these partnerships last. It has now been over a decade since Richie Sambora left Bon Jovi. And while he doesn’t regret the decision to leave the arena rockers after 30 years of hits and hairspray, he’s not entirely proud of how he did it.
Ahead of the second leg of their 2013 Because We Can Tour, Richie Sambora left Bon Jovi, undoubtedly the biggest change in membership for the band since forming in the early ‘80s. But with so much bad medicine in his mouth, he had no choice. As Richie Sambora revealed in Hulu’s docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, “I don’t regret leaving the situation, but I regret how I did it…So I’d...

There wasn't a more capable director of massive, widescreen Westerns working in Hollywood during the 1950s and '60s than John Sturges. Whether classical ("Gunfight at the O.K. Corral") or somewhat unconventional ("Bad Day at Black Rock"), Sturges could frame a mountainous expanse or stage a gunfight with the best of them. He thrived when working with big casts and specialized in discovering stirring nuances in characters that would've been walking cliches in more typical genre flicks.
Sturges was also efficient, which came in handy when managing expensive studio productions populated with big egos. His biggest challenge in this department might've been "The Magnificent Seven," the 1960 remake of Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece "Seven Samurai." Los Angeles, April 28 (Ians) ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ could very well be one of the most loved songs but its creator, Jon Bon Jovi wasn’t impressed with the song initially.
The 62-year-old rock icon recently opened up about his four-decades-long career and recalled that he didn’t initially connect with the band’s chart-topping 1986 hit, reports ‘People’ magazine.
He told ‘People’, “It wasn’t that I didn’t want to record it, but I wasn’t all that impressed on the day that we wrote it.”
Upon writing the song, “it was the simple chord progression, the melodies and the lyrics” at first. “But the bass line came to life in the demo studio, when we took it back to the band and worked it up,” reflected the Grammy winner. “That’s how it became what it is”.
He further mentioned, “We knew what we wanted, we just didn’t have it,...

Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” remains one of the most beloved classic rock songs of the 1980s. Bon Jovi’s co-writer said he wrote it in a place that reminded him of an infamous scene from a horror film. Fascinatingly, the lyrics of an earlier Bon Jovi song partially inspired “You Give Love a Bad Name.”
Bon Jovi’s ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ has a connection to Kiss
Desmond Child is a professional songwriter who became famous for working with classic rock acts like Alice Cooper (“Poison”), Aerosmith (“Dude Looks Like a Lady”), and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (“I Hate Myself for Lovin’ You”), as well as pop singers such as Katy Perry (“Waking Up in Vegas”), Ricky Martin (“Livin’ la Vida Loca”), and Ava Max (“Kings & Queens”). One of his most famous songs is Kiss’ disco/hard rock smash “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.

One of the most overexposed classic rock songs ever is Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” — and yet, some fans miss its meaning. Jon Bon Jovi revealed the tune was inspired by one of the defining political ideas of the 1980s. On top of that, “Livin’ on a Prayer” was influenced by the singer’s romantic life.
How Ronald Reagan inspired Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’
On the surface, “Livin’ on a Prayer” is a song about a couple trying to make a life for themselves while they don’t have much money. It’s easy to understand the tune as a simple self-empowerment anthem. However, Jon Bon Jovi himself connected it to the political milieu of the 1980s.
The BBC reports that the singer said “Livin’ on a Prayer” was about the economic policies of President Ronald Reagan. “I wrote that song during the Reagan era...

Wearing a large-brimmed hat and a long duster coat and holding — the giveaway — a double-neck guitar, it was clear “Wanted Dead or Alive” was in the cards.
Isbell acknowledged as much on Instagram on Saturday: “I think it’s pretty obvious which Bon Jovi song I did just by looking at this picture,” he wrote.

As Skidrow frontman Sebastian Bach sat down after a long day of metal rocking to enjoy some MTV, an energetic pretty boy suddenly appeared before the eyes of Bach. And all he could think was, “What the f*ck is a Bon Jovi and What the f*ck is with all those teeth?”, as smiling was not exactly considered cool amongst the metal-heads of the time. And we can’t forget Twister Sister frontman Dee Snider, who believes that he can pin point the exact moment that metal started to become less metal….when Bon Jovi smiled, creating what many like to call “happy metal”. Season 24 of “The Voice” ended Tuesday, December 20 with host Carson Daly announcing Huntley as the winner. The 33-year old gave coach Niall Horan his second victory, keeping him undefeated and making the “Slow Hands” singer just the third coach to win two seasons back-to-back (Blake Shelton won Seasons 2-5 and Kelly Clarkson‘s team took the top spot in Seasons 14 and 15). If “The Voice” had a Mount Rushmore of coaches, three of the faces carved into its granite would no doubt be Niall Horan, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. Why? Because as of the Season 24 finale on December 19, they are the only coaches to have won two seasons in a row. That’s quite an impressive feat, especially considering the immense amount of talent that has graced the NBC reality TV show since its debut in 2011. See the updated “The Voice” winners list.
Niall joined the esteemed list on Tuesday night when Huntley, his 33-year-old artist from Fredericksburg, Virginia, won Season 24 over runner-up Ruby Leigh of Team Reba McEntire. That gave Niall back-to-back victories because he also prevailed in Season 23 with Illinois pop singer Gina Miles, who bested runner-up Grace West of Team Blake. Since Niall isn’t returning in the spring for Season 25, that means he will remain undefeated for the time being.

Jeff Tweedy never meant to be a memoirist. “I was kind of recruited to write a book based on some agent’s idea that I might be able to write something worth reading,” he says, recalling a conversation five or more years ago. “I said, ‘Sure, I guess.’ It felt accidental.” That somewhat inauspicious beginning led to Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back), the acclaimed memoir that Tweedy published in 2018. A couple of years later, he wrote a second bestseller, How to Write One Song, encouraging readers to tap into their own creativity.

The film world is still reeling from the recent loss of actor Rick Dalton, whose passing was first announced on May 19th, 2023 by The Video Archives Podcast's official Twitter account. Dalton, who passed away at his Honolulu, Hawaii home (shortly after celebrating his 90th birthday in April), is survived by his wife, one-time Italian starlet Francesca Cappucci.
The Video Archives Podcast, created and hosted by filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary, aired an episode on May 22nd that is apparently part one of a multi-episode run that revolves around the directors' memories of Dalton and his work.
While other friends and fans of the actor such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt have yet to make any official statements or remembrances, Tarantino has made sure that Dalton's name isn't fading into the ether like so many stars of yesteryear. The "Pulp Fiction" director made sure to include a tribute to...

When band members abruptly leave the group that made them famous, most assume that there was plenty of behind-the-scenes drama. However, Jon Bon Jovi insisted there were “no hard feelings” when longtime guitar player Richie Sambora quit the rock band.
Richie Sambora was an original member of Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi was formed in 1983. The band’s initial lineup included lead singer Bon Jovi, guitar player Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, and bass player Alec John Such. The group enjoyed some moderate success with their first few albums and built up a dedicated fan base through frequent tours.
In 1986, they released Slippery When Wet and quickly became stars. The album spent eight weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, and singles “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer” both went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

While it’s hard to imagine a time when Jon Bon Jovi couldn’t get a record deal, that was absolutely the case in the early ’80s. Fortunately, an act of desperation helped to kick-start his music career and, ultimately, his rise to fame.

Bon Jovi’s breakout hit “Runaway” started the band’s career, but few fans know how much work went into getting that first big break. While talking with Virgin Radio UK, the frontman shared the desperate move that finally got him the deal he deserved.
“[It’s] 1982. I write ‘Runaway,'” Bon Jovi recalled. “I can’t get a record deal. I can’t even get a band because, you know, original bands aren’t making any money. So, I think to myself, ‘Who is the loneliest man in the music business?...

Even decades later, 1980s music lives on in the hearts of those who grew up on it and the generations who’ve since discovered it. Of course, Bon Jovi has consistently released new music ever since then. But there’s something special about the band’s early work, when bandmates Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora discovered the special connection they shared as songwriters.
Bon Jovi released their debut album in 1984
Over the past 40 years, Bon Jovi has released 15 albums. But the band first burst on the scene with its 1984 self-titled release. This first album featured such hits as “Runaway” and “She Don’t Know Me.” But in hindsight, it was really just a stepping stone for bigger success to follow. Bon Jovi released their second album, 7800° Fahrenheit, the next year, with hits like “Only Lonely.”
But 1986 saw the band reach what still remains its greatest accomplishment. That year, Bon Jovi released its third album,...

Bon Jovi has been making hit music for nearly 40 years. Over the course of 15 years, frontman Jon Bon Jovi and his bandmates have released 15 albums. However, although the band’s fan base continues to grow, Bon Jovi’s biggest success came early on. And as it turns out, one of the band’s signature hits, “Wanted Dead or Alive,” only took a single day to write, according to Bon Jovi himself.
‘Slippery When Wet’ is Bon Jovi’s biggest album
Bon Jovi released a self-titled debut album in 1984. But it would take a couple more years and albums for the band to reach the apex of its fame. In 1986, Bon Jovi released its third album, Slippery When Wet, and the album eventually went Diamond, selling more than 10 million copies in the United States. The album is home to arguably the band’s three most iconic hits.

Back in the ’80s and ’90s, no one in the music industry could compete with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora’s songwriting skills. The duo produced dozens of major hits that still get air time on the radio decades later. However, even some of the band’s biggest fans don’t know that an old high school buddy inspired this number-one song.

The 1990 song "Blaze of Glory" from the "Young Guns II" soundtrack is impossible to resist. I feel pretty confident in saying that, when you read the title of that song, it began playing in your head. In fact, you'll be singing it for the rest of the day, and if anyone else is around, they'll join in with the harmony. Maybe you, like a young version of me, watched the video repeatedly, admiring ... the music. I didn't mean the exceedingly good-looking Jon Bon Jovi himself. Okay, that's a lie, but the song really is pretty great. There is a reason it's performed at every karaoke bar, including the fictional one in the afterlife in "The Good Place."
What you might not have realized about the song you cannot stop singing now that I've mentioned it, is that it was written over dinner with two stars of the 1990 sequel to 1988's "Young Guns.

Chicago – Cult character actor Rutger Hauer passed away late last month, but the mark he made with his array of performances carried through two generation of admirers, even receiving the honor of Best Dutch Actor of the (20th) Century in 1999. He died on July 19th, 2019, in his native Netherlands. He was 75.
He was born in Breukelen, the Netherlands, to actor parents. After a couple stints in the military, he graduated from the Academy for Theater and Dance in Amsterdam in 1967, and made his TV debut two years later when director Paul Verhoeven cast him in the Dutch medieval action drama “Floris.” His film debut came in 1973 with “Turkish Delight,” and he performed mostly in Dutch films during the 1970s, including work with Verhoeven again on “Solider of Orange” (1977) and “Spetters” (1980).

Tuesday’s episode of The Voice left Season 13’s Knockouts in the rearview mirror and me feeling reflective — mainly about how easy it was to pick the standouts from this eh-ok crop of contestants. My once-high expectations for Anthony Alexander have been lowered. After Monday’s “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” I still think of Moriah Formica as rock but not rock-solid. Ashland Craft’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” should have left her singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” And as far as I can tell, Jon Mero simply cannot cut the cheese out of his performances. That leaves, Imho, five real contenders: Chris Weaver,...

Had Monday’s start of The Voice’s Season 13 Knockouts been Kelly Clarkson’s Blind Audition to be a coach on the show, would you have turned your chair for her? The Grammy-winning American Idol champ certainly appeared to be into it. And her advice seemed on point. (For instance, she suggested that Shi’Ann Jones maybe shouldn’t spend an entire song doing runs, encouraged Janice Freeman not to just copy Mary J. Have you ever noticed how some bands seem to play the same song over and over again? There might be a few chord changes and the lyrics are certainly altered but when you listen to it you’re thinking to yourself “haven’t these guys done this exact same song before?” For example, remember when Bon Jovi did “Blaze of Glory?” I couldn’t figure out if that or “Wanted Dead or Alive” was the same song or one was the extension of the other. It happens all the time in music. Sometimes you take a hit, tweak it a little and just

Will the murders ever stop in Rosewood?
We were promised a murder on Pretty Little Liars Season 7 Episode 6, and it really delivered.
Sara Harvey is dead. How freaking ironic is it that her body was found in a tub with the shower on? It's almost like the person who killed her knew she liked showers.
I've been hard on Sara. She was one of the sketchiest people in Rosewood, but she really redeemed herself in her final hours. She genuinely cared about Emily.
Why else would she follow her and tell her to look out for herself? It's just a shame the character was written off the show as soon as she started to become somewhat likeable.
There's a good chance Emily won't take the death very well. As much as she despised her, there was a time in which they were romantically linked before it was revealed she was in cahoots with Charlotte.
