Halle Berry was willing to gather information from a variety of sources to help keep herself in shape. In the early days of the internet, she was even willing to visit chatrooms to seek answers.

Berry had mixed feelings about using the internet. On the one hand, she didn’t like the hatred she frequently saw online or how internet users hid behind their words with anonymity — a luxury the Oscar winner couldn’t enjoy.
“The internet is also a very negative place because people can say whatever they want and not have to take responsibility for their comments,” Berry once told Black Film. “I have to always take responsibility. If you’re in a public position, you have to take responsibility for things you think, it seems like. You have to take responsibility for...

As the daughter of the misanthropic waitress Carla (Rhea Perlman) and Nick Tortelli (Dan Hedaya) on "Cheers," the role of Serafina Tortelli was a highly coveted role for many of the young actresses in Hollywood in the early 1990s. The character was ultimately played by Leah Remini, who at the time had been making a name for herself on TV shows like "Who's The Boss," "Living Dolls," and "Saved by the Bell." This was obviously years before she'd become one of the leading sitcom wives thanks to "King of Queens" and a host with "The Talk" and "People Puzzler," but the early career role is still beloved by her fans.
In her 2015 memoir "Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology," Remini claimed the role of Serafina Tortelli on "Cheers" was between her and Jennifer Aniston. Hollywood can be a cutthroat industry, but Remini said that she and Aniston had a friendly rapport...

"To every little girl who feels unseen and unheard, this is our way of saying to you: we love you and we see you and you deserve every good thing in this world."
Berry then touched on the power of storytelling, adding, "It can raise our consciousness and help us think outside of ourselves and our individual circumstance. I realize we truly need to see each other's realities no matter how uncomfortable it makes us, so that we might stop judging and stop pointing fingers but rather find compassion and empathy for the others."
She concluded, "This is why I'm so grateful to be standing and living in this moment, where women are standing up and we are telling our own stories . . . we won't always be pretty, and we will never be perfect, but what we will be is always honest and true, no matter how uncomfortable that makes you.

On the day Halle Berry shot the big fight scene for her new movie “Bruised,” in which she plays a disgraced mixed martial arts fighter, she cracked two ribs.
Berry, 54, had injured herself on the set of a movie before — breaking three ribs on “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum” without knowing exactly how she did it. On that 2019 action film, she remembers feeling no pain and then suddenly not being able to breathe. “I thought I had bone cancer,” Berry recalls. “I thought it was early osteoporosis. I couldn’t understand why this was happening to me when I was really physically fit.” She traced the incident to her diabetes. “I have a propensity to fracture bones faster than other people.”
When Berry got hurt on “Bruised,” after taking a knee to the chest from co-star Valentina Shevchenko, she wasn’t surprised. But this time, the stakes felt momentous. “Bruised,” which...

Poor, poor Lucio Fulci. He spent the first half of the ’90s ill from his fight with diabetes; his last film Door into Silence, came out in ’91. Longtime rival Dario Argento offered an olive branch for the two to work on a project together; they wrote a story (and Fulci crafted a screenplay), but sadly Fulci passed away in March of ’96 before production started. But horror is persistent, and after Argento had FX maestro Sergio Stivaletti step behind the camera, the world was given Wax Mask (1997), a gnarly yet elegant period piece that manages to pay tribute to not only the fractured madness of Fulci, but Hammer as well. Now it can be yours with a glorious 4K transfer and a treasure trove of goodies from the upstanding citizens of Severin Films.
If one was to drag the ’50s Hammer films kicking and screaming across the floor and dropped them off in an Italian extrava-grossout,...

John Wick has a very famous fan: Halle Berry.
She’s such a fan, in fact, that she ended up in the third installment of the action franchise, “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.”
“I get a phone call from my agent and my manager saying, ‘They’re doing a third installment of ‘John Wick.’ Did you ever see ‘John Wick’ 1 and 2?” Berry recalls. “I said, ‘Oh my god, I love it! What do you mean have I ever seen it? Of course, I saw it! I love it! They’re making a 3?’ And they said, ‘Yeah, and there’s possibly a role for a badass female. Would you be interested?’ And I said, ‘Call up [director] Chad [Stahelski] right now, and get a meeting for me. I have to be in this movie.’”
I sat down with Berry in New York City for this week’s episode of Variety and iHeart’s new film podcast “The Big Ticket.

Halle Berry is producing, starring in, and making her feature directorial debut on martial arts drama “Bruised,” which is planned for a March start of production.
Other producers are Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, Entertainment 360, and Linda Gottlieb. Riverstone is financing and Erica Lee is executive producing. The film is being developed with the Eis company.
Berry will direct from a script by Michelle Rosenfarb, portraying a disgraced Mma fighter who has to face one of the rising stars of the Mma world and deal with the return of her 6-year-old son to the mother he deserves. She will work with the team that executes fight choreography for the “John Wick” series.

Two weird truths about Hollywood: The industry loves to pigeonhole good-looking performers (especially good-looking actresses) into roles seemingly more suited to their physical attributes And it also loves nothing more than when an attractive star plays ugly (or even average!) to get into character for a splashy role. Halle Berry is certainly familiar with this strange dichotomy, and the Oscar-winning actress recently spoke out about how she had to buck being typecast as a “gorgeous girl” in order to get the kind of work she really wanted.
In a new interview with W Magazine (via E! Online), Berry explains that when she first came to Hollywood, she was almost immediately disregarded by industry professionals, simply because of the way she looks. “I came from the world of beauty pageants and modeling,” she told W. “And right away when people heard that, I got discounted as an actor.”

Catching Up With … Leah Remini You might know her from one of the most popular sitcoms of the last 20 years, The King of Queens, her reality shows, or her time as cohost of The Talk. You might remember her from her memorable stint on the still-popular ’90s teen comedy Saved by the Bell. You might recognize her from earlier roles on the ’80s classic Who’s the Boss or its short-lived spinoff, Living Dolls. Because of these examples (and many other credits too numerous to mention), there’s no doubt you think you know Leah Remini … but how much … Continue reading →

Halle Berry is returning to TV this summer with Extant, her new CBS sci-fi series. Yes, she's returning to TV. Before Berry was controlling the weather as Storm in the X-Men movies and taking home the Oscar for Monster's Ball, she starred in a Who's the Boss? spinoff. Yep, Living Dolls was Berry's first credited role! Your favorite A-list actors weren't always on the top of the heap. Let's explore the (not so) secret TV past of your favorite stars. Living Dolls lasted only a handful of episodes. Berry co-starred opposite Michael Learned and Leah Remini in the modeling sitcom from 1989. After the show was canceled, Berry went on to a few guest roles and TV movies, including a recurring role on Knots...

Here, Berry (whose first acting jobs were in old TV shows like Living Dolls and Knot’s Landing) talks about her character and that thing growing in her character’s belly.
Entertainment Weekly: Talk about when you first discovered the script for Extant.

Much to our disbelief, Halle Berry is turning 46 today. If we had one wish in this life, we’d probably wish to age as gracefully as she has (after wishing for world peace, of course). Halle has been gracing us with her presence onscreen and on the red carpet since 1989, and we’re pretty sure that she looks just a beautiful now as she did then. Halle started out on Living Dolls but her real breakthrough role was in Spike Lee‘s Jungle Fever. Fast forward to 2000, and Berry was in blockbuster territory, donning a white wig to transform into the comic-book hero Storm in X-Men. She found her niche in the action movie scene and took on the role as James Bond’s feisty sidekick Jinx in Die Another Day. She really turned heads as soon as she stepped out in that amazing orange bikini! From there on out Berry was everywhere,...

Diane Haithman contributes to Deadline’s TV coverage. Last August, Leah Remini’s name was in the news as she was ousted from CBS daytime’s The Talk along with Holly Robinson Peete. Now she’s at ABC in the new comedy Family Tools. And at today’s TCA panel on the comedy, she was relentlessly upbeat about the change. “I do believe things happen for a reason, it’s a blessing”, she said. “I started at ABC in 1989 with Living Dolls. My mother said: ‘What part are you playing?’ Yeah”, she cracked. “But it is a blessing to be here, I love being back at ABC, I’d like to stay here and get comfortable”. Remini seems determined to deflect any negatives and called her ouster from the daytime talk program “a learning experience”. After the session, she acknowledged that in hindsight “there were a lot of things I wish I didn’t say,...

Whenever I'm watching red carpet coverage from the comfort of my couch, Halle Berry is one of the few celebrities whose natural beauty always seem to radiate from the TV. The Oscar-winning actress' flawless skin, knockout body and highly-coveted hair even placed her at the top of People magazine's "Most Beautiful Woman in the World" list in 2003, becoming the first black woman to earn this honor. And though Beyoncé recently gained the title this year, Berry still believes the personification of diverse beauty in the media is limited.
"We live in a world where certain images are plastered all around, and those images that look like us aren’t there like we want them to be," said Berry.
I sat down with the 45-year-old bride-to-be (she's engaged to French actor and "Dark Tide" co-star Oliver Martinez) while she was in New York City to unveil Revlon's new ColorStay Whipped Crème Makeup.

Bond girl Halle Berry thought she was dying when she was first diagnosed as a diabetic - because she had no idea what the disease was. The actress passed out on the set of TV show Living Dolls after her blood sugar levels spun out of control. She woke up in hospital to the news that she had the disease - but she had no idea exactly how serious it was. She says, "It was the first time I had to work 12 or 14 hours straight without a break to go to my usual vices - a candy bar, a little nap, a glass of juice. I just passed out on the set and they took me to the hospital and when I came to they said, 'You're a diabetic.' I thought I was dying because all I heard was disease. I quickly learned all about insulin and how it is manageable. It took me about five years but I got it under control. When it's out of control, which is usually under great times of stress for me, my blood sugar gets a little out of control. I get a little more sleepy and lethargic. I can usually tell."...
