Two words: Peanut butter. If I remember anything about what went down at the Archer: Danger Island panel at New York Comic Con Saturday evening, it’s that Lucky Yates (Dr. Krieger) was taught how to poop at age 3, when he opened the refrigerator, spied a jar of peanut butter and…success! Fresh off of an Emmy nomination for her lead role in “Better Things,” Pamela Adlon is back for Season 2 of the FX comedy.
In the trailer below, Adlon plays Sam, a working actress with a refreshing candor when it comes to life, dating and her family. She is neighbors with her kooky mom Phil (Celia Imrie) and has her hands full with three daughters who are just as mouth as she is. The youngest Duke (Olivia Edward) is still getting away with being cute, middle child Frankie (Hannah Alligood) is gung-ho about social justice, and eldest daughter Max (Mikey Madison) can’t seem to keep the male admirers away. In fact, that seems to be a point of contention between her and her mother this season.

Spike Lee’s upcoming small-screen ventures extend beyond Netflix. Variety reports that the writer/director/producer is developing a TV series alongside Chad Sanders called “Archer,” which is partly based on the latter’s life and presumably bears no relation to the animated spy sendup of the same name.

“Archer” is described as “a dark comedy and sociological thriller capturing the life of a 20-something African-American coding genius and iconoclast living in Brooklyn who has developed a dating app that reads sexual chemistry”; said iconoclast is a “young, black Mark Zuckerberg-like” character. If his resume is as stacked as Sanders’ — he worked at Google before his tenure at Dev Bootcamp — he could be a compelling onscreen presence indeed.

Few times in history has someone been this excited to be a parrot.
Earlier this month at their Comic-Con panel, the cast and producers of “Archer” gathered to give fans an early glimpse at Season 9 of the animated show. Following the tradition of past themed seasons, like “Archer Vice” and the most recent “Dreamland,” “Archer: Danger Island” will once again take the central crew of the show and bring them to unfamiliar territory.

But the big moment came when producer Matt Thompson provided some fresh Season 9 details.
The highlight of Thompson’s “quicksand, cannibals, super-intelligent monkeys, a volcano, and a talking, fucking parrot.” (The latter of that list will be voiced by Lucky Yates. Yes, Krieger’s spirit will now inhabit a tropical bird.)

The anticipation that surrounds the lead-up to the San Diego Comic-Con is always intriguing, because there’s a legitimate potential for things to fall apart. You can’t always anticipate how fans will react to big reveals or changes, not to mention new properties that are hoping to gain traction with the convention’s geek-inclined audience.

In this week’s Very Good Television Podcast, Liz and Ben are joined by IndieWire executive editor Michael Schneider, as the three of them spent the last several days running around San Diego (literally) to check out all of the excitement to be had at Comic-Con.
While there was so much to experience — in the podcast above, the trio mentions a ton of things they enjoyed over the course of the convention — there were even more notable winners and losers.

Charlize Theron is a woman who kicks ass, onscreen and off. Not only does the South-African-American actress portray awesome action stars like Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road” and Lorraine in the upcoming “Atomic Blonde,” but she’s out there producing movies with female leads and advocating for more women in all aspects of the film industry.
“I always say to studios, ‘Make more female-driven movies — not just actors, but producers, directors, writers.’ And they always say, ‘We would if they go see them.’ So go see them. We need you guys to support us,” Theron said. “We need you guys to make it clear we’re just as good as the guys.”
“Plus, we have boobs. They don’t have boobs.”
Speaking during Entertainment Weekly’s “Women Who Kick Ass” panel at Comic-Con Saturday afternoon, Theron discussed her new film, including a sex scene that subverts genre expectations, rumors...

Archer is going even further back in time next season. After a year in “Dreamland” — specifically the year 1947 — “Archer: Danger Island,” Season 9, will take place in the spring of 1939 on a remote beach locale in the South Pacific.
Announced by executive producer Matt Thompson during the Comic-Con panel in San Diego, it was also unveiled that Archer will be a seaplane pilot with one eyepatch and two partners: One is Pam Poovy, his co-pilot who he’s gotten into “many scrapes” with across the globe. The other is a “talking, fucking” parrot named Crackers, who will be voiced by Lucky Yates (who usually plays Dr. Krieger).
Lana is a princess on the island, while Mallory is a bar owner and (unlike last season) Archer’s mother. Mallory’s character in “Dreamland” was not related to Archer, and voice actress Jessica Walter said she was glad the familial connection has been restored.

Hit AMC series “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead” usually open their annual Comic-Con panels on a celebratory note. But this year, the shows struck a different tone, in light of the recent death of stuntman John Bernecker.
“The Walking Dead” panel kicked off solemnly, as executive producer Scott Gimple read a tribute to Bernecker, sharing some of his credits – including “Looper,” “This Is The End,” “The Hunger Games,” “Get Out” and “Logan.”
“John passed away this week after he was injured doing something he loved,” Gimple said, “John was someone beloved in the stunt community. He was living his dream and he helped other people do the same thing.”
Gimple added that the cast and crew “didn’t know if we should do this panel today. But we wanted to be here for you. And we wanted to show you what weve all been working on.” He...

“Marvel’s Inhumans” is ABC’s next foray into the Marvel Universe, but it’s nothing like “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” or “Agent Carter” (Rip!).
As the title indicates, the majority of the series features a species of beings that were created when aliens started genetic tinkering with the human race when they were just still a primitive species. These Inhumans procreated and developed their own society separate from homo sapiens over millennia, and in present day, they’re ruled by the Royal family, which is where the series comes in.

ABC released a brand-new trailer for “Inhumans” at Comic-Con on Thursday, and it’s all kinds of crazy. Take a look:
Here are the 28 thoughts we had while watching the trailer:
1. Marvel seriously let the “Iron Fist” showrunner take on another series?! This ought to be interesting.
