4 reasons why Gillian Anderson will win SAG Award for ‘The Crown’

4 reasons why Gillian Anderson will win SAG Award for ‘The Crown’
Just as Gold Derby predicted, Gillian Anderson has received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for her buzzy role as UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on Season 4 of “The Crown.” She faces off against two of her co-stars, Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin, in the Netflix-only race for Best TV Drama Actress, with the other contenders being Laura Linney and Julia Garner from “Ozark.” With all the vote-splitting and powerful performances, this category is one of the strongest in all of Thursday’s SAG Awards nominations. However, I’m already prepared to call a victory for Anderson based on the following four reasons.

1. She’s won before — twice

Anderson is already a favorite of the actors guild, winning in 1996 and 1997 for her role as FBI Agent Dana Scully on Fox’s “The X-Files.” Sure, it’s been more than two decades,

Is ‘Bridgerton’ destined to be the next ‘Downton Abbey’ at the SAG Awards? The guild loves big Brit ensembles
Bridgerton” premiered on Christmas to strong reviews and lots of attention from viewers: it has consistently been among Netflix’s top 10 streaming programs in the month since its premiere, and it was quickly renewed for a second season. But what about awards? It has a strong chance at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where it could dominate like another soapy British drama with a large cast: “Downton Abbey.”

Downton Abbey” reigned over the SAG Awards, winning the prize for the best TV drama ensemble three times in four years. That placed it just one win behind “ER” as the most awarded cast in the category’s history. It didn’t hurt that the show had such a large cast of actors in lots of group scenes as the upstairs family and downstairs servants maintained the title manor.

George Clooney To Be Honored By AARP’s Movies for Grownup Awards

George Clooney To Be Honored By AARP’s Movies for Grownup Awards
George Clooney will receive this year’s career achievement honor at AARP The Magazine’s Movies For Grownup Awards in March.

“We are delighted to honor George Clooney, whose mastery and — wit — make him one of the most talented and beloved actors of our day, and a director who’d be famous even if we’d never seen him onscreen,” AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins said in a statement. “The combination of his smarts, hard work and experience shows just how wrong stereotypes about aging are.”

The award celebrates Clooney’s decades-long career in Hollywood, beginning with his rise to prominence as Dr. Doug Ross on “ER” in the ‘90s to films like “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Up in the Air.” He made his directorial debut with “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” in 2002 and, most recently, directed Netflix’s “The Midnight Sky” and Hulu’s “Catch-22.

Gillian Anderson (‘The Crown’) looking to win 3rd SAG Award for drama actress

Gillian Anderson (‘The Crown’) looking to win 3rd SAG Award for drama actress
It’s been 24 years since Gillian Anderson last stepped up to the winner’s podium at the SAG Awards for “The X-Files,” and now Gold Derby’s odds predict she’ll be a first-time nominee for “The Crown.” She prevailed at the 1997 and 1996 ceremonies for her role as FBI Agent Dana Scully in the Best TV Drama Actress category, which combines female leads and supporting players from the prior calendar year. If Anderson ends up prevailing at the guild, she’d tie Edie Falco (“The Sopranos”) at three victories in this race. Julianna Margulies still holds the category record at four triumphs — two for “ER” and two for “The Good Wife.”

Jared Padalecki Talks Transitioning From ‘Supernatural’s’ Sam Winchester Into ‘Walker’
In the spring of 2019, while Jared Padalecki was finishing shooting what would become the penultimate season of “Supernatural,” he began to sketch out an idea for his next project. After starring in the WB Network/CW drama alongside Jensen Ackles since 2005, Padalecki’s first thought was of continuing their partnership beyond that one show.

“I was tired of being on camera for 20 years straight,” he says. “I wanted to produce a show called ‘Walker’ starring Jensen Ackles.”

Walker” would be a reimagining of the enduring CBS series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” which ran for nine seasons between 1993 and 2001 and starred martial artist and actor Chuck Norris in the ass-kicking titular role. But unlike the new versions of vintage series that the CW has launched before, from “90210” to “Melrose Place,” “Walker” will not continue the world or any of the characters of the original show. Instead, the series follows the modern

National Geographic has chosen its stars for its next installment of the highly-rated, disease-focused anthology series, “The Hot Zone: Anthrax.”

Today, the flagship channel, along with Scott Free Productions and 20th Television (a division of Disney Television Studios), announced that Daniel Dae Kim and Tony Goldwyn will lead the six-episode show that centers on the anonymous bioterror attacks that caused panic across the country mere weeks after the chaos of 9/11. The limited miniseries depicts the trials of Usamriid scientists, FBI agents and Justice Department personnel that joined forces to triumph over the national threat that claimed five lives and left 17 others ill. After a slew of turf wars and false alarms, the unlikely interagency team eventually cracks the case and closes in on the prime suspect.

“Tony and Daniel are both wonderfully versatile and dimensional actors who will bring complexity and depth to these characters,” said Carolyn Bernstein, executive vice

10 TV Shows Starring The Cast Of ER

10 TV Shows Starring The Cast Of ER
As far as medical dramas go, ER set the bar high. Running from 1994 to 2009, the NBC show featured complex medical cases and a bit of personal drama in between. Although it was slightly exaggerated at times, the show also gave viewers a true glimpse of a doctor’s life.

Throughout its seasons, ER boasted of an incredible cast ensemble, one that even included A-List stars, George Clooney and Angela Bassett. Aside from these two, the show also featured actors who went on to pursue more TV roles after their time on ER. Some even went on to win some Golden Globes and Emmys for their success.

How Jason Bateman can reclaim the SAG Award for ‘Ozark’ in unprecedented fashion

How Jason Bateman can reclaim the SAG Award for ‘Ozark’ in unprecedented fashion
For the second year in a row, the reigning TV drama actor Screen Actors Guild Award champ is not in the running — Peter Dinklage is gone because, duh, “Game of Thrones” is — but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s anyone’s game. Former champ Jason Bateman (“Ozark”) is back and leads our odds, and he could do something that’s actually pretty common in this category — reclaim the title — but with a twist.

Bateman, who won two years ago and was ineligible last year because “Ozark” skipped the cycle, would be the 10th person to win the award at least twice and the sixth to do it non-consecutively. “The Sopranos'” James Gandolfini has a record three trophies, all non-consecutive, in 2000, ’03 and ’08. The eight men who have two statuettes are:

1. Dennis Franz, “NYPD Blue

2. Anthony Edwards, “ER

3. Martin Sheen, “The West Wing” (2001-02)

4. Kiefer Sutherland, “24

5. Hugh Laurie, “House”

6. Steve Buscemi,

Inside George Clooney’s ‘The Midnight Sky,’ From Felicity Jones’ Surprise Pregnancy to His ‘Santa Claus’ Beard

Inside George Clooney’s ‘The Midnight Sky,’ From Felicity Jones’ Surprise Pregnancy to His ‘Santa Claus’ Beard
A movie that’s set partly in outer space and partly in the frozen expanses of the Arctic, “The Midnight Sky” is by far the biggest and most ambitious of the seven movies that George Clooney has directed. Based on the novel by Lily Brooks-Dalton, it takes place about 30 years in the future, when an unspecified calamity has threatened to make Earth unlivable and a team of astronauts is returning from a scouting mission at a potentially inhabitable moon of Jupiter.

In addition to directing, Clooney plays a key role in the earthbound scenes as a terminally ill scientist named Augustine Lofthouse who’s remained behind at an Arctic base that he thinks is deserted until he encounters a young girl, Iris (Caoilinn Springall). He’s driven to contact the returning astronauts, who include David Oyelowo, Felicity Jones, Kyle Chandler and Demian Bichir, to tell them not to come back

George Clooney Tried to Talk Ben Affleck Out of Playing Batman

George Clooney Tried to Talk Ben Affleck Out of Playing Batman
George Clooney has long been vocal about his much derided brush with playing the Caped Crusader in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman & Robin.” From the perhaps too anatomically correct Batsuit to the movie’s wild swings in tone, the 1997 sequel to “Batman Forever” is universally regarded as a flop.

Clooney recently reflected again on what a disaster the movie personally was for him during a new episode of “The Howard Stern Show” (via Deadline). Clooney sat down with Stern and his co-host Robin Quivers to discuss his new film “The Midnight Sky” on Netflix, among other wide-ranging topics. Though at the time of the release of “Batman & Robin” Clooney was hot off “ER,” which he starred in through 1999, the Batman film was meant to be his big break onto the big screen.

“It’s so bad that it actually hurts to watch,” Clooney said on the show. “It physically hurts.

How George Clooney’s Work on ‘ER’ Helped Him Direct ‘The Midnight Sky’
George Clooney has come a long way since his breakout role as the hard-partying, womanizing pediatrician Doug Ross on NBC’s 1990s hit “ER.” But the actor-turned-filmmaker said he drew on lessons from his work on the medical drama while directing and starring in his new sci-fi epic, “The Midnight Sky.”

George Clooney Honored at MoMA Film Benefit by Julianna Margulies and David Letterman
Film, celebrity and artistry usually collide at the annual MoMA Film Benefit, a glamorous night at the world’s most celebrated modern art museum. Last year, Laura Dern, Naomi Watts and Gwendoline Christie, clad in Chanel — the event’s perennial presenting sponsor — mingled in the low light on the raised atrium of the museum’s second floor.

“Isn’t it dumb we can’t all be in the same room tonight?” Academy Award-winning actor and producer George Clooney, this year’s honoree, asked on Monday.

“I fully assumed this would be a Zoom gala, so I went with ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ on top and who gives a shit on the bottom,” said Rajendra Roy, the museum’s chief curator of film.

This year, Clooney’s co-stars Felicity Jones, Tilda Swinton, Sam Rockwell, Jeffrey Wright, David Oyelowo and Julianna Margulies joined MoMA to honor the actor, producer, writer and director.
