Michael J. Fox is sharing his thoughts on how Hollywood has changed over the decades.
In a recent interview with People magazine, the Emmy-winning actor, who rose to fame in the 1980s following his roles in Palmerstown U.S.A., Night Court, Family Ties and Back to the Future, compared the entertainment industry now to when he got his start.
“There’s an expression I referred to when they gave me an honorary Academy Award — somebody said to me the day before, they were talking about getting this award and being famous and they said ‘You’re ‘80s famous,’” Fox recalled. “I thought, wow, that’s cool. ‘80s famous. Right, we were different.”
He added, “We were tougher. We didn’t have social media, we didn’t have any of that crap. We were just famous. Left to our own resources. And it was an amazing time.”

This week has seen a lot of news content from Michael J. Fox since People Magazine celebrates their 50th anniversary with a profile on the star after they covered the heartbreaking revelation of his condition back in 1998. Fox is a big face of 80s pop culture thanks to his work in Family Ties, Teen Wolf, The Secret of My Success, and, of course, Back to the Future. According to Variety, Fox recalls when someone coined to him the phrase “80s famous” as he explained to People, “There’s an expression I referred to when they gave me an honorary Academy Award — somebody said to me the day before, they were talking about getting this award and being famous and they said ‘You’re ‘80s famous.’”
Fox expanded on this point of view, “I thought, ‘Wow, that’s cool.’ ‘80s famous. Right, we were different. We were tougher. We didn’t have social media,...

Over 25 years later, Michael J. Fox is talking about beating the odds.

Michael J. Fox says he’d consider acting again.
Despite stepping away from acting in 2020, Fox – diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 29 in 1991 – now says he would consider performing again.
“If someone offers me a part and I do it and I have a good time, great,” Fox said in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I would do acting if something came up that I could put my realities into it, my challenges, if I could figure it out.”
Fox, the Back to the Future and Spin City star, was speaking to the media prior to a charity event for his Michael J. Fox Foundation.
“My goals are always shifting. My biggest goal, I think, was to raise a family. We have four amazing kids, and that’s been the big thing,” said Fox, who has been married to his Family Ties costar Tracy Pollan since 1988. “And then...

The new season of America’s Got Talent has seen Heidi Klum whip up yet another set of stylish clothes. As the AGT Season 19 auditions continued this week, the longtime AGT judge did not disappoint with her wardrobe selections.
I was impressed by her outfits, including everything from her seductive black lace dress to her green co-ords and denim-and-leather combo. Let’s have a closer look at her fashion choices for this week.
Edgy yet Sexy in a Delicate Lace Alice + Olivia Dress
Heidi Klum kicked off the week in style, showcasing a mix of edge and sultriness in a black slip dress with lace detailing from Alice + Olivia.
The $695 “Daphne” slip dress is delicate yet sexy with see-through white lace embroidery on the plunging V-neck bodice and along the hem of the asymmetrical midi-length skirt. It also comes with a daring thigh-high slit, allowing the supermodel to parade her insured mile-long legs.

Comedies have always been Richard Kind‘s bread and butter. With memorable roles in shows like Spin City, Mad About You, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Other Two, and now the Night Court reboot, the 67-year-old star has long been one of the industry’s best character actors. But he tells TV Insider that he craves his chance at a dramatic turn like his Spin City co-star/longtime friend Alan Ruck, who showed his dramatic chops in the incomparable HBO series Succession. After being “raised” on the original Night Court and long admiring John Larroquette‘s performance as Dan Fielding, Kind made his Night Court debut in Season 2 Episode 7 on Tuesday, February 13 on NBC. He plays Sy Feldman, a disgraced Broadway producer who’s in legal trouble over faulty investments in his failed shows. The character is a lot like Max Bialystok of The Producers, whom Kind played on Broadway in 2004 opposite Ruck as Leo Bloom.

If there’s a funny show on TV, it’s a pretty good bet that Richard Kind has appeared on it.
The veteran actor has logged memorable guest appearances on dozens of TV comedies over the years, along with regular stints on Mad About You and Spin City, among others. So it’s no surprise that Kind pops up on this Tuesday’s Night Court (NBC, 8/7c) as unscrupulous Broadway producer Sy, who lands in court after getting caught selling fake theater memorabilia. So did Kind base this character on any Broadway producers he may have worked with?

Jon Cryer has proved himself a marketable quantity in the network sitcom game, a success most recently reflected in his starring role on the new NBC and Peacock show “Extended Family.”
Cryer, in an interview on the “Wtf With Marc Maron” podcast, recalled a key effort that helped cement that status — his part on the hit Charlie Sheen-starring sitcom “Two and a Half Men.”
Cryer said he remembered how Sheen’s role came together and how CBS played a big part.
“CBS wanted Charlie Sheen on the air so badly, and you could sense that,” Cryer said. “Based on, he had done ‘Spin City’ for a couple of seasons, and everybody was like, ‘Wow, he’s really good.’ Cause he took over for Michael J. Fox, and everybody said, ‘That is a bad idea.’ And then he turned out to be good on the show, with a totally different character.

January 11, 1999, 25 years ago to the day, was Jon Stewart’s first night hosting The Daily Show.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart went on to win the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series for ten consecutive years between 2003 and 2012, before losing to The Colbert Report, a show that he exec produced, for a couple of years, and then coming back to win in 2015 in his final season.
It’s a run that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver looked like it might replicate with seven wins in the category – then known as Outstanding Variety Talk Series – starting in 2016.

It seems like an eternity ago that Charlie Sheen – all fueled up on tiger blood – was “winning.” Of course, his idea of “winning” was far different than pretty much everybody else’s since he ended up getting canned from Two and a Half Men, which some reports put him making upwards of $1.8 million per episode. Now, as he has reteamed with showrunner Chuck Lorre, Charlie Sheen says everything seems so “surreal” now.
Speaking with People, Charlie Sheen stated, “It’s one of those things that is so surreal that I keep hearing Al Michael’s famous hockey call: ‘Do you believe in miracles?!’ It’s a trip. When I won a Golden Globe for Spin City, the last place I expected to be was at that podium and I said, ‘This feels like a sober acid trip.’ And I think that quote rings true for what I’m going through with this experience.

Since 1991 (and primarily within the last 10 years), a total of six TV performers have earned recognition from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for reprising roles that had brought them Golden Globe nominations at least a decade earlier. With this and his own stellar HFPA track record in mind, Kelsey Grammer – the two-time Best TV Comedy Actor-winning star of “Frasier” – can more than reasonably be expected to join said prestigious club by scoring his ninth bid in the category (and first in 22 years) for the Paramount Plus revival of his beloved NBC sitcom. What’s more, he might actually make history as the first actor involved in such a situation to pull off a comeback victory.
Grammer collected his first eight Golden Globe nominations for “Frasier” between 1994 and 2002 and emerged triumphant in both 1996 and 2001. After saying goodbye to Dr. Frasier Crane 19 years ago, he is now set to lead a long-awaited...

Before Jane Campion, Kathryn Bigelow, Greta Gerwig, Ava DuVernay or Chloe Zhao, Jennifer Esposito thought about being a director. “I wanted to go to NYU film school. I couldn’t afford it but also back then there were no role models,” the actress-turned-first-time director told me. “No brilliant female directors or filmmakers, or so few it’s embarrassing,” she continued. “So I became an actress.” That decision didn’t hurt her. After debuting on a “Law and Order” she went on to a regular role on “Spin City” and then films like Spike Lee‘s “Summer of Sam” and Oscar-winning Best Picture “Crash.”

Upon winning his first Emmy for “Ted Lasso” in 2021, Jason Sudeikis followed Donald Glover as only the second 21st century Best Comedy Actor victor to be honored for a pilot episode performance. After taking the gold for appearing in 20 minutes of his show’s debut installment, he was lauded for a second season submission in which his screen time fell just under 10 minutes. Now, on his third and seemingly final bid for the Apple TV+ series, he is looking to be rewarded for a performance that is nearly the combined size of his former two.
In terms of screen time in each of their single chosen episodes, Sudeikis outpaces all four of his 2023 competitors by at least 94 seconds. On average, this group of leading men’s submitted performances are 19 minutes and 21 seconds long and take up 43.31% of their episodes. This story about “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy/Variety/Reality/Nonfiction issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
The last time Davis Guggenheim interviewed Michael J. Fox for the documentary “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” it came at the end of a three-year period in which the filmmaker of “An Inconvenient Truth” and “Waiting for ‘Superman’” had spent time with the actor as he reflected on his life and battled Parkinson’s disease. He left Fox’s home exhausted by the lengthy interview — “interviews are super intense and I’m hyper-focused” — but also feeling as if he’d really gotten to know the 62-year-old actor who’d become a star in his 20s with “Family Ties” and “Back to the Future.”
It was a beautiful spring day, so Guggenheim decided to walk back to his hotel, which was two miles away.

Blue Bloods alum Jennifer Esposito has signed with WME.
The veteran Hollywood actor made her writing and directing debut this year with her 1980s-set mafia drama Fresh Kills, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Esposito wrote, produced and stars in the film, which features Annabella Sciorra and Domenick Lombardozzi.
Esposito, who played detective Jackie Curatola and Donnie Wahlberg’s partner for three seasons of CBS’ cop drama Blue Bloods, arrives at WME as she focused more on the writing and directing space by developing a slate of film and TV projects.
On NCIS, she played NCIS special agent Alexandra “Alex” Quinn, an experienced agent who left field work and became an instructor at the Law Enforcement Training Center before being lured back into the field as a federal agent.
As an actor, Jennifer is a SAG, Critics Choice, and Hollywood Foreign Press award winner. She has appeared in over 60 film and TV series,...

“Yellowstone” premiered in 2018, and has led to an acclaimed TV franchise, with star Kevin Costner striking gold once again in his career as patriarch John Dutton. Fans were disappointed to learn that Costner has opted to leave “Yellowstone” with the upcoming conclusion of season five; his schedule is currently full as he has been starring in, producing, co-writing and directing “Horizon: An American Saga,” the first of a four-film western saga.
However, this isn’t the first time a star has left a series too early, leaving producers scrambling to find a solution to keep a successful series going. Tour our photo gallery featuring 27 performers who abandoned their programs.
Like Costner, other actors and actresses have left to pursue other projects. Some, like Farrah Fawcett and George Clooney, go on to successful careers in movies or with more TV. Others, like David Caruso and McLean Stevenson, regret leaving a successful show when careers flounder afterwards.

Even if Michael J. Fox wasn’t American television royalty, including being a five-time Emmy Award winner, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie would probably prove to be quite popular with the television academy. However, as a three-peat winner for Family Ties (“I feel four feet tall!” he said from the stage), a winner once more for Spin City, and a regular nominee in the guest acting category for just about anything he would take time to appear in, I feel pretty confident that Davis Guggenheim’s moving biographic documentary will do well at this year’s Emmys.

Martin Scorsese, Davis Guggenheim and Richard Kind were just a few people who shared their appreciation for Michael J. Fox at the 2023 Spring Moving Image Awards.
The Museum of the Moving Image honored Fox with the lifetime achievement award for his work on the screen and Parkinson’s advocacy, dedicating a seat in the museum’s Redstone Theater to him.
Scorsese spoke about Fox’s career and how the growth of his talent has continuously amazed him.
“Back in the 80’s it was really an amazing thing to witness how Michael’s career took off. I watched him in those early pictures and I was stunned,” said Scorsese. He said seeing Fox on the screen for the first time was something like watching James Cagney in “Public Enemy.” “Michael is a powerhouse who was made for movies.”

Jennifer Esposito remembers being asked to audition for “The Sopranos” more than once. She declined each time.
“I chose to not go up for it when they would call me in because it was like, ‘I can’t relive this,’” Esposito recalls. “The only thing that used to make me crazy about the show when I did watch it was the character of Meadow because she was very nice. The girls I grew up around wanted to kill me, wanted to kill me every day. So it was Ptsd.”
Esposito grew up among organized crime on Staten Island. “Staten Island is the same Staten Island from when I left when I was 18 years old,” says the 50-year-old actor, whose credits span from television’s “Spin City” and “Blue Bloods” to the Oscar-winning “Crash.” “It’s still the same place. This post contains spoilers for the Ted Lasso season finale, “So Long, Farewell.”
During what certainly seems to be the final episode of Ted Lasso, reporter Trent Crimm reads a note Ted has written him regarding Trent’s book about his season with AFC Richmond, which Trent has titled The Lasso Way. “One small suggestion,” Ted writes. “I’d change the title. It’s not about me. It never was.”
The sentiment works as something wholly true to Ted and the philosophy he has espoused over the comedy’s three seasons.

With the HBO media empire tragicomedy "Succession," the damaged and destructive adult children of billionaire mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox) take center stage. For every shareholder meeting or tense bit of boardroom drama, the show spends much more time digging into the cyclical journeys of self-discovery or delusion that the children undergo. And none of them, not even megalomaniacal "#1 Boy" Kendall (Jeremy Strong), are as delusional as eldest son Connor (Alan Ruck).
If Alan Ruck's performance as Connor reflects anything, it's that against all odds he will find a way to dominate a given episode or storyline. For a character with a small role at the series' outset, he's become something of a fan favorite, whether it's rightfully fighting for his share of the pie as "the eldest son" or his Leonard Cohen karaoke choice. His romantic relationship and eventual marriage with former escort Willa (Justine Lupe) is as unsettling as it is surprisingly warm,...

This article contains spoilers for Clone High season 1 and the season 2 premiere.
What memories does the year 2003 stir up? The first Pirates of the Caribbean film? Ugg Boots? Freedom Fries? When the only Fast and Furious franchise sequel was 2 Fast and 2 Furious? It was a time when two fresh faced geeks, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller didn’t have The Lego Movie or Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse under their belt. In fact, they practically had no experience in Hollywood, let alone some of the most revered animated work of their era.
To cut their teeth in business, the soon-to-be dynamic duo partnered with producer Bill Lawrence (who was the force behind Spin City and Scrubs at the time and had Ted Lasso on his future docket) to create 13 episodes of a little known animated show that premiered on Teletoon in Canada and eventually MTV in the U.S. That show was Clone High,...

When Oscar-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) asked Michael J. Fox if he would collaborate on a documentary about life before and after his 1991 Parkinson’s diagnosis, Fox agreed—on one condition. “No violins,” said the actor and activist. As he put it in this intimate and insightful film, “I’m a tough son of a bitch.” The major part of Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie is the frank interviews with the actor, whose boyish, cheeky presence graced beloved 1980s and ’90s TV series (Family Ties and Spin City) and blockbuster movies including the Back to the Future trilogy. Meanwhile, he hid his 1991 diagnosis until a dramatic 1998 reveal. Guggenheim fills out the story with home movies from Fox’s upbringing, family scenes with wife Tracy Pollan and their four children and Fox’s grueling physical therapy workouts. The film also uses clips from Fox’s career that show his evolving state of mind,...

If producer-director Davis Guggenheim winds up coming away with an Emmy Award for his phenomenal Apple TV+ documentary film of Michael J. Fox’s life and career entitled “Still” that premiered May 12 on the streamer, his best move would be to immediately dedicate the win to the spectacular job done by his editor, a fellow named Michael Harte. I have in fact never seen a more brilliant job of storytelling and production flow than that turned in by Harte, who merges the personal and professional lives of Fox so brilliantly that it almost takes your breath away.
Unlike the majority of so-called celebrity docs that get made, “Still” doesn’t focus on friends, colleagues or even family members to tell the story of the subject at its center. It shines an unblinking spotlight on Fox himself, one that can be raw and harrowing to take in given the star’s...

Review: For those of us who came up in the eighties, Michael J. Fox was right up there with Tom Cruise in that he was the movie star many of us looked up to as the cool older brother we always wanted. Nowadays, people may not realize just how big he was, with him starring in not only the biggest show on TV (Family Ties) but also headlining a slew of movies that were box office juggernauts. Sure, people know that Back to the Future was a phenomenon, but Teen Wolf also made a boatload of cash, and The Secret of My Success was one of the highest-grossing comedies of the eighties. After co-starring in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," one of the most memorable and beloved teen comedies of the 1980s, Alan Ruck carved out a terrific career as a character actor in projects like "Speed," "Twister," and "Spin City" before being cast in one of his most career-defining roles: Connor Roy on HBO's "Succession." Over the course of four seasons, Connor has evolved into a compelling combination of privilege and delusion, a man living in the shadow of a towering father figure who desperately wants to gain his own little foothold in the halls of the ultra-powerful.
But that wasn't always the case. Looking back at the pilot episode, Connor feels like the Roy child with the least amount of personality, and in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, co-star Kieran Culkin (who plays Roman) specifically praised Ruck for breathing life into that character in a significant way. As we slide into the 2023 Summer movie season, a new release takes us back to another one, now 38 years old. And while in recent years you could say that a major studio “owned’ the Summer as Paramount did last year with the Top Gun sequel, or as Marvel Studios has done (along with some characters licensed out to others) a couple of years prior. Oh, but the Summer of 1985 was pretty much owned by an unlikely cinema superstar, Michael J. Fox. For a week or two his “star vehicles”, Back To The Future and Teen Wolf were respectively numbers one and two on the box office charts. But his streak wasn’t limited to the big screen, as his “day job” on the NBC sitcom “Family Ties” had a safe perch in the top ten Nielsen ratings. For a man who has, for the last 30 years or so, found his life defined largely by the fact that his body moves in unwanted and uncontrollable ways, I get the feeling that the last thing Michael J. Fox is actually wants is to be still.
Davis Guggenheim’s documentary biography is formed around a series of interviews with Fox, footage of his day to day life, and narration taken (as is much of the film’s structure) from his first autobiography, Lucky Man. Still strikes me as being about a man who has always wanted to control the way he and his life move. He played sports as a kid, he talks about how he relied on the mobility of his face and his body in order to do his work as an actor; his ability to control those subtle movements a key part of what he he did.
