After just two seasons, the Courteney Cox-starring horror series “Shining Vale” has been given the axe by Starz, and that’s not even the worst news about the show this afternoon.
Variety reports, “The Season 2 finale of the horror comedy, produced by Warner Bros. TV, aired on December 1. Not only will the show be cut by the network, the first two seasons will be removed from the streaming service at the end of the year.”
“Shining Vale” Season 2 premiered on the Starz streaming service on October 13, 2023, and Variety notes that the show didn’t find enough of an audience to justify a third season.
The bigger issue here, however, is the news that both seasons of “Shining Vale” will be removed from the Starz streaming service. The series has to date not received a single physical media release, so this could be another case of a streaming project being...

The Mean One, along with Mad Heidi and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was part of an unexpected crop of horror and exploitation films based on children’s tales that dropped last Christmas. Since Dr. Suess’ Grinch is still under copyright the makers of this film had to change a few names to bring us the tale of Cindy You-Know-Who and the residents of Newville’s battle against the evil green creature known as The Mean One.
Our story begins with a familiar flashback accompanied by the rhyming narration of Christopher Sanders but, in a twist, just as young Cindy (Saphina Chanadet; Balance of the Force) is about to change The Mean One’s attitude her mother appears and attacks him, getting herself killed in the process.

There are a lot of people feeling a lot of pain all over Hollywood today with the annual ruthless round of Black Friday cancellations but, Donald Trump and Clayne Crawford may be pretty pleased.

“Trial and Error” has been canceled after two seasons on NBC, TheWrap has learned.
As TheWrap previously reported, the broadcaster’s option on the true crime spoof lapsed last August and Warner Bros. Television planned to shop the comedy to other outlets. At the time, NBC had not formally passed on renewing the mockumentary series, meaning it was still in play for a third season, but the studio was free to explore other options.
A source tells TheWrap the studio did try to get “Trial and Error” picked up elsewhere, but there is currently no home for the series. However, Warner Bros is still open to an opportunity to continue the show, should it find a new home in the future.

Villains are there to be defeated by the good guys but somehow they always get to mount the best rides around when they step out to commit evil.
Maybe it's their inherent ability to see beauty in things otherwise considered trash and repurposing them for their needs. Or it's probably our heroes who have a poor sense of aesthetics.

Whichever way it is, there is no law that dictates that you can't be both evil and ride the best things out there. These 13 bad guys have made it clear that these aren't mutually exclusive traits!
1. Death (Supernatural) In quite possibly the most memorable entrance scene of all time, the horseman of death driving the only vehicle in existence that could upstage Dean's "Baby," pulled up in a remote town and stepped out like the boss that he is.

“America’s Got Talent” was once again America’s Tuesday sweetheart, carrying NBC to an easy win in both the all-important adults 18-49 range and total viewers, according to overnight numbers from Nielsen. However, the program has seen better primetimes than last night’s, which took a little hit in both measures.
Meanwhile, ABC came in second place in the key demo thanks to another steady “Bachelor in Paradise,” but lost the runner-up trophy in viewers to CBS, a network that only aired encores.
NBC was first in ratings with a 1.5 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 8.4 million, according to preliminary numbers. At 8 p.m., “America’s Got Talent” scored a 1.8/8 and 10.6 million viewers. At 10, “Making It” drew a 0.8/4 and 4 million viewers.

“The Proposal” wasn’t accepted by many viewers Monday night, tying a series low in the key adults 18-49 range for its Season 1 finale, according to overnight numbers from Nielsen.
And while its home network, ABC, still tied for first in the key demo with NBC for the evening, it was the latter network who won the overall eyeballs trophy, thanks to another highly-rated “American Ninja Warrior.”

Turning a murder case into anything close to comedy is a tricky proposition, even when the victim is a fictional character. But over the course of two seasons, NBC’s “Trial and Error” has turned that challenge into a jumping-off point; it throws off distinctions of sitcom, parody, and TV legal proceedings and makes a story that’s wholly its own.
Where other shows might make the central attorney at the heart of each case the series’ beating heart, Josh Segal (Nicholas D’Agosto) is more of an idealistic conduit of relative calm around which the future of his law career and the town of East Peck exist in a constant state of flux. After successfully guiding his ragtag group of colleagues through the trial of Larry Henderson (John Lithgow), Josh gets an even bigger challenge: defend the beloved, extravagant Lavinia Peck-Foster (Kristin Chenoweth), who’s charged with killing her husband.

Kristin Chenoweth, when you meet her in person, is as friendly and bubbly as you might imagine — in the middle of a busy NBC press day, she required several pauses in our conversation to say hi to familiar faces. Thus, her newest role of accused husband killer Lavinia Peck-Foster might feel like an odd fit, except for this fact: The “Trial and Error” Season 2 star is a true crime junkie, and in fact nearly studied criminal justice instead of pursuing musical theater at one point in her career.
“During ‘Wicked,’ I went to the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, which is basically across the street from where the theater is,” she said. “I looked up some classes and was going to take a basic criminal justice course and then our day and night off moved from Monday night to Wednesday night, so I got taken out of class.”

Having reinvigorated the long-form docuseries with streaming sensations such as “Making a Murderer” and “Wild Wild Country,” Netflix is now streaming one of TV’s original true crime obsessions, “The Staircase.” On top of presenting the original eight part series from 2004 about novelist Michael Peterson’s high profile murder trial, the streaming service is also offering two follow-up episodes that aired in 2013 and three more original episodes shot exclusively for Netflix just last year when dramatic new developments arose in the case.
The saga of “The Staircase” begins in 2001 with a frantic phone call to the police from Peterson claiming to have just discovered his wife, Kathleen, dying from a fall at the bottom of the stairs in their Durham, North Carolina home. By the time the police arrive, Kathleen is dead in a bloody scene authorities deem far too grisly to call an accident. Peterson is immediately arrested and...

Last season, NBC premiered one of the most interesting television shows to come along in quite some time. It was called Trial and Error, and the very name automatically makes you think about something along the same lines as Law & Order. However, if that is indeed what you’re thinking, that is not even close to what this show is about. Instead, the show incorporates its own special mixture of drama and comedy, with both aspects thrown in together in order to create some very uniques plots. This is obviously a difficult task, especially when you consider the fact that

Golden Exits. © Sean Price Williams“No soul or locale is too humble,” John Updike wrote, “to be the site of entertaining and instructive fiction.” Which is a good thing for Nick, the nominal hero of Alex Ross Perry’s new film Golden Exits. The mild, meek, nearly-fifty archivist, played with greying dignity by former Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz, lives a pinched and incapacious existence, toiling ten hours a day hunched behind the desk of a basement office only a few blocks away from his Brooklyn apartment. It’s a spartan, closed-loop life, and Nick thinks it’s “thrilling”—which it becomes for a time, when a 25-year-old assistant arrives from Australia and threatens to disrupt it. Golden Exits is about that threat. Or more precisely, it is a film about what happens when order and routine are besieged by the promise of change—when the life one has accepted is beleaguered by temptation,...

Although some complain that the first-person shooter genre has become too cluttered with similar looking, sounding and playing war games, those who write it off entirely as a result of this are doing themselves a disservice. Sure, there are many war-based shooters out there (some good, some great and some bad), but that doesn’t mean that other companies aren’t trying their hand at different takes on the bullet-filled genre. After all, that’s what led to Superhot, a critically-acclaimed former PC exclusive that has now made its way to the Xbox One.
Minimalistic and unique, Superhot is a game that centres upon time manipulation. Stand still and time does, too. Move, and it follows suit, though its speed is dependent on yours. The idea may be simple in a way that makes you exclaim, “I could’ve thought of that!” but there’s no denying that it’s smart.

Previously: 'Masters of Sex' Season 3, Episode 6: The Trial and Error of 'Two Scents' The Syllabus In Howard Hawks' antic comedy, "Monkey Business" (1952), buttoned-up chemist Barnaby Fulton (Cary Grant) ingests an elixir of youth and spends a freewheeling afternoon with buxom secretary Lois Laurel (Marilyn Monroe). The experience, he relates later, is one of "maladjustment, idiocy and a series of low-comedy disasters," but this screwball spirit unfortunately fails to translate to tonight's "Masters of Sex." Culminating with a scene in which Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) aims his recent cruelty at erstwhile partner Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), the episode fails to make hay from its droll premise, preferring instead a bewildering blend of squeamish humor, strange secrets, and slight camp. "Monkey Business" may be designed as a mischievous double entendre, but it blares its tired understanding of the battle of...

Mindy went to her grandson’s bris today. Meyer Manuel, known in Hebrew as Avraham, is named for all three grandfathers. He had his first taste of wine, too, suckling on a cloth dipped in Manischevitz. It’s supposed to “quiet the baby,” which means lead him into a drunken stupor, so that the pain of the circumcision will be dulled. It didn’t help.
Meyer Manual cried, and Alix wept, as did most everyone else; the only ones not crying were Jeff, who did look shaky but stayed strong, looked shaky but he managed okay. The only ones who didn’t cry were the moyel (the artist performing the procedure) and Grandma me – the moyel because, well, that’s his job – and also he was wonderful, attentive to Alix and Jeff and incredibly caring to Meyer Manuel – and as for me, well, I think because I’ve seen so...

The "Supernatural" Season 8 finale aired almost two weeks ago, but we're only just starting a long, long summer of over-analyzing it until the show returns on Tuesday nights this fall. At the beginning of this season, I wrote a tongue-in-cheek "letter" to Sam Winchester -- so I thought it only fair to take another, more serious look at his story, now that the season is over.
When Jeremy Carver took the reins this year as showrunner, he stepped in at something of a disadvantage. Though the Season 7 finale seemed to hold some promise, in retrospect, the season ended on a particularly weak note last spring. It was a premise we'd seen before -- one Winchester brother trapped in another world, the other stuck with the burden of getting him out. The only difference, this time, was that Sam didn't know where Dean was. For all he knew, Dean was dead,...

Skydance Productions' Ladies Night starring Charlize Theron, may have found a helmer in Fred Savage. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film should go intro production some time in early 2014 which is being eyed as an early 2014 production and is a Bridesmaids-type comedy which follows a woman who has enough of her longtime boyfriend's inability to commit to their relationship and decides to go on one last night on the town with her friends prior to uprooting her life and heading to New York. This is a more light-hearted film for Theron, who's more into serious roles, did co-star alongside Jeff Daniels in Trial and Error, and was in Jason Reitman's Young Adult - more a dramatic bore than comedy.

Hey, Supernatural fans, your Winchester Wednesday report will be brought to you by yours truly this week while your fearless leader Sandra Gonzalez is in the midst of making the big move to the City of Angels (kind of appropriate, don’t you think?).
This week’s episode, “Remember the Titans,” isn’t about football but of course, this being Supernatural, is about the actual Titans. Or one in particular, Prometheus. While Sam and Dean wait to hear back from Kevin about the next translation of the demon tablet, they take on a case of what appears to be a zombie (“boys,...

Caroline finds herself disappointed with this week's derivative and muddled Supernatural...
This review contains spoilers.
8.15 Man's Best Friend with Benefits
Who thought this was a good idea? After several weeks of gold-standard Supernatural, we’ve been handed a muddled, slightly offensive, and derivative episode that layers a boring and problematic plot with a low-point argument between our heroes. Yup, Sam and Dean are bickering all over again, despite the progress we had made with the Men of Letters plot, and we’re back to distrustful glances and secrets kept.
The bad title flags up exactly what we got from the episode, with a witch's familiar (complete with dog collar and sexy outfit) coming to the brothers for help when her ‘master’ starts dreaming of killing people whose bodies turn up the next day. This sounds like an old episode of Angel, Somnambulist, for a start,...

For several seasons, "Supernatural" boys Sam and Dean Winchester have had a troubled relationship. At one point, they seemed destined to go down fighting on opposite sides of the war between Heaven and Hell, but after countless fights and deep betrayals, they've emerged once again as brothers with a common goal. In last week's episode, "Trial and Error," they seemed closer than ever as Dean confessed that he dreams of a happy future for Sam and Sam swore that he believed in Dean's ability to live through their latest battle.
It was quite touching, really. But can they continue to see eye-to-eye as Sam faces the trials from God in his attempt to close the gates of hell for good?
Jared Padalecki tells us that there's a potential for the trials to cause a little bit of trouble between them, because once again, Sam and Dean aren't being entirely honest with each other.

"Trial and Error" started off showing us Ann Ewing's strong side but will she be able to maintain that bravado when she's behind prison bars?
Not much was better than watching Annie walked determinedly into the police station with socked feet, slam her blood splattered boots on the counter and tell the officer, "My name is Ann Ewing and I shot Harris Ryland."
We finally learned a lot about Ann's past and how she ended up with someone as vile as Ryland. Poor Ann was a shy, awkward girl whose mother actually brought her to a doctor to ask them to make her stop growing because she considered her too tall. That would mess with anyone's body image and self esteem.
So when Ryland came along and saw something special she fell head over heels. If only his crazy momma hadn't shown up. Judith Ryland was quite a piece of...

The brothers discover what the tablet says in this week's enjoyably light episode of Supernatural. Here's Caroline's review...
This review contains spoilers.
8.14 Trial and Error
After last week’s Nazi-themed shenanigans, Sam and Dean are back in the Batcave and apparently planning to stay. There’s something innately comforting about seeing Dean, who’s never had his own room, decorate his designated area with vinyl records and his favourite guns. For long-time Supernatural fans, the sheer joy on his face may have even brought a tear to your eye. Sam is also settling in nicely, with the research side of hunting taking centre stage for a change.
But their domestic bliss (complete with homemade cheeseburgers) is short-lived, as Kevin calls to tell them that he’s figured out what the tablet says. Instead of simple instructions, of course the tablet is detailing various trials that God has set out for them,...

Supernatural Episode 814
“Trial and Error”
Written By: Andrew Dabb
Directed By: Kevin Parks
Original Airdate: 13 February 2013
In This Episode...
Kevin has finally had a breakthrough with the tablets. It seems that there is a gauntlet of three tests. After each test is completed, a spell must be said. In theory, after the third test, the gates of hell should be slammed shut. Kevin has the spell, and he has the first task, which he turns over to Sam and Dean. They must slay a hellhound and bathe in its blood. Doesn’t seem too hard - they’ve killed hellhounds in the past.
Sam does some research to see who may have made a deal with the devil 10 years ago. He finds it in the Cassity family, Idaho farmers who strike oil in a place that shouldn’t have oil, and become the real-live Beverly Hillbillies. The Winchesters head to Idaho where the groundskeeper,...

Supernatural Season 8 has stumbled a bit trying to find its footing, and while the flashback stuff was interesting for a while, I'm really liking the whole "knowledge is power" aspect that's recently been at the forefront.
Sure, I guess having a variety of tablets - and now the introduction of Men of Letters - followed by the need to complete God's three trials to close the gates of Hell sounds like a lot. There's even a real potential to spread the show too thin with everything that's going on, something I think that happened to Supernatural Season 7.
Yet, with "As Time Goes By" and "Everybody Hates Hitler" really embarking Sam and Dean on a journey with a purpose, "Trial and Error" was a nice follow up that continued on that larger mythology path.
What really comes down to it, though, is the fact that for the most part, Sam and Dean are on good terms.

And just in time; we thought we’d have to miss out. We’re big fans of the Producer’s Previews that The CW often makes available for their series, and especially those for Supernatural. Jeremy Carver, Supernatural‘s current showrunner, had been a Syfy Being Human co-showrunner before returning to Supernatural, where he had previously been a writer.
Carver has quite the vision for the series, as we’ve seen it unfold this season, and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Thank goodness we can watch without fear of an unresolved cliffhanger, after Monday’s great season renewal news.

Over the last few episodes, "Supernatural" has delivered some major shifts to the story's mythology, giving the Winchesters a new perspective on their family history and, for the first time, a home to call their own. In tonight's episode, "Trial and Error," there are more significant developments as Sam and Dean argue over who will complete a set of tests that will lead to information about closing the gates of hell.
Spoiler alert: Sam wins that particular battle. And in doing so, he may lose the war.
We sat down with Jared Padalecki on set this week to discuss how the trials would impact Sam -- and suffice to say, it's not going to be pretty. "It's like a consumption," Padalecki says. "Like he's having Tuberculosis type [symptoms], hacking up blood and kind of trying to hide it from his brother. Nasty, but kind of cool."
