Perhaps a trip to the Party City store would have been the better method for “The Mick” gang to pick out their Halloween costumes. On Tuesday’s episode of the hit Fox sitcom, Mackenzie (Kaitlin Olson) dresses up as Randy Johnson, Alba (Carla Jimenez) is fellow southpaw pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, and Sabrina (Sofia Black-d’Elia) parties hard as Sexy Steve Jobs. One of the most defining, ubiquitous comedic voices of the last decade—hitting the stratosphere of stand-up stardom and creating hit series including Louie and Horace And Pete—Louis C.K. is as much a filmmaker as anything else. R.I.P. Oscar Bait: How ‘Moonlight,’ ‘Get Out,’ and ‘The Big Sick’ are Changing the Best Picture Race
Tomorrow night, the premiere of Alexander Payne’s “Downsizing” will open the Venice Film Festival — and with that, the festival portion of the awards season begins with Telluride this weekend, Toronto next week, and New York at the end of the month. All told, there’s 186 days between the “Downsizing” premiere and the March 4 Oscars broadcast. That period should be the Super Bowl for movie-lovers — a six-month debate about which films are the year’s best, and the opportunity to shine a light on smaller titles otherwise eclipsed by those built for global box-office domination.
This is not what happens.
The fever of awards season now runs so hot and so early that fall festival premieres increasingly serve as a focus group that narrows the Oscar landscape months before films reach a wider audience, including most voters. The judgments aren’t based purely on being a good film; the ultimate...

After highlighting 55 titles confirmed to arrive this fall, we now turn our attention to the festival-bound films either without distribution or awaiting a release date. Looking over Venice International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and New York Film Festival titles, we’ve rounded up 25 movies — most of which we’ll be checking out over the next few weeks — that we can’t wait to see.
Check out our 25 most-anticipated festival premieres below, and let us know what you’re most looking forward to.
Caniba (Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Verena Paravel)
As part of the groundbreaking Harvard Sensory Ethnography Lab, Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Véréna Paravel have established themselves at the forefront of modern documentary filmmaking, most notably with their landmark 2012 film Leviathan. In their second collaboration this year (after somniloquies, which premiered at Berlin), the two seem to be engaging with a more typical documentary subject, though the form of Caniba remains to be seen.

Earlier tonight, CBS finally aired the premiere episode of its new Big Brother season 19. It started out by showing the usual introduction footage of the cast. They started with the first group of 8 houseguests. Afterwards, they sent them into the house. Next, they featured the second group of houseguests and sent them into the house. Everyone was very excited as they usually are on the very first day. They introduced themselves to each other and did that whole thing. After that, Julie Chen called them to the living room to eventually remind them that this is a game for a whopping $500,000 and that it starts right now. She gave them instructions about a new game that would involve a major twist. It was pretty simple. Basically, they were all seated in front of a electronic tree or plant. Once it lit up, they had the option to press a button they were given.

The end of the season has come! Tomorrow night, we find out who won this season of Dancing with the Stars, and it really could be anybody. That mirrorball trophy could go to pop star Normani Kordei, or football player Rashad Jennings, or baseball player David Ross, especially after they all--as usual--got perfect scores for their final freestyle dances. The big question is who should it go to? All three have given us some pretty fun numbers over the past season, but not all dances (or scores) are equal. Let's discuss the dances of the night! David Ross and Lindsay Arnold: 33/40 + 40/40 = 73/80 Listen, David's fun. He's fun to watch. He seems nice, and...

Tomorrow night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chris Pratt will debut the third trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. We’re not sure just what exactly it’ll show off, but if this new sneak peek is any indication, it seems like we’ll be getting a look at Drax’s manners. Or lack thereof.
Of course, that’s far from the only thing this upcoming preview will bring us, as we’re also expecting to get another look at the sequel’s explosive action, the hilarious dynamic between the titular team (which is on full display in the clip above) and probably some more of the new villains who are set to be introduced here. Besides all that, there will no doubt be some inspired music to accompany the footage, as has been the case with previous trailers.

Tomorrow night's episode of Legends of Tomorrow will bring the "Invasion!" crossover to an end, but the eighth instalment will see the team return to their time travelling adventures in order to try and bring an end to whatever nefarious scheme the Legion of Doom has planned. Considering the fact he had something of a complex relationship with Damien Darhk in the present day, it will be interesting to see how their dynamic changes when Malcolm meets a younger version of the villain he tried to destroy the world with It's the Reverse-Flash who is calling the shots though, and it appears as if the Legends are about to come face to face with the group for the first time here. Tomorrow night at 10 marks the debut of Sundance's Hap and Leonard, a period buddy drama based on a series of Joe R. Lansdale novels, and starring James Purefoy and Michael Kenneth Williams as the two title characters: respectively, an ex-con and his gay Vietnam vet best friend. In the late '80s, they live on the bottom rung of life in East Texas, and keep getting caught up in trouble, starting in the TV show with the arrival of Hap's ex-wife Trudy. The adaptation, primarily directed by Jim Mickle and written by Mickle and Nick Damici, has mixed success. Purefoy and Williams have good chemistry together in the Terriers vein, and Leonard couldn't have been better tailored to Williams' slow-burning charisma if Lansdale had somehow gotten a glimpse of The Wire before writing the first book. But Purefoy's always-sketchy American accent goes particularly haywire as he tries to sound Texan,...

As usual, we here at the site will be covering a number of the films throughout the festival, but I wanted to make sure that any local Criterion Collection fans were alerted to some of the treats that we have in store. While there are many films at the festival that will align with...

It’s the final moments where the judges are in control this season on American Idol. The first 12 of our top 24 took the stage for one final shot to impress the judges as soloists. Tomorrow night, the same 12 will join forces with former Idol contestants to perform a duet. Only seven will be left standing, as five will be sent home after this round. Ryan Seacrest and Company are coming to us from a new set somewhere in downtown Los Angeles, but it looks like the inside of a Las Vegas mall. (It’s all Greek to me.) With

Tomorrow night, Warner Bros. will turn the superhero conversation — at least temporarily — away from "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice," to their other mega team-up movie of the year, "Suicide Squad," when a new trailer will be unveiled. But to stoke the excitement just a little bit more, a batch of new posters have landed online. Read More: Watch: Official 3-Minute Comic Con Trailer For 'Suicide Squad' With Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie & More As you might expect, the movie will connect to 'Dawn Of Justice,' and as we've seen in the first trailer, Batman swoops by for a visit, but that's about all Ben Affleck is willing to spill, though he's excited to see what audiences think. “It felt like I have such a cool cousin. This thing that is so awesome is somehow related to me, and that was really exciting because it...

Tomorrow night’s episode of Arrow will see John Constantine arrive in Star City to help Oliver Queen and the rest of Team Arrow put Sara Lance’s soul back in her body following her resurrection in Nanda Parbat. This might just be one of the most highly anticipated instalment’s in the show’s history, especially as Matt Ryan is reprising the role of Constantine after his own NBC series was cancelled.
Perhaps, then, that’s why the episode actually leaked online over the weekend. While some fans jumped at the chance to see Green Arrow and Constantine meet, those hoping that high ratings will lead to a return for Ryan’s take on the character somewhere down the line were obviously more than a little peeved. Still, reviews have been very positive, so you’re definitely going to want to check this one out on The CW tomorrow.

If Joseph Gordon-Levitt flapping his wings in Angels in the Outfield was a movie quote, you better believe it would make this list. (So, spoiler alert, it doesn't.) Tomorrow night the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals go head-to-head in the first game of the 2015 World Series. Even if your team didn't make it (you had a lot of Back to the Future enthusiasts behind you, Chicago Cubs), we can all agree there's something special about a ballgame. Whether or not you have something riding on this series, it's the time of year when we get to see the best of the major leagues—and we're ready to watch some amazing baseball. Instead of just listening to "Meet the...

Tomorrow night’s episode of Arrow is titled “Restoration,” and while the main reason for that may be that Laurel is attempting to bring back her sister from the dead, using the Lazarus Pit, Sara’s life isn’t the only thing that might be “restored.” The other major conflict of the episode centers around Oliver and Diggle’s friendship, and Felicity’s attempt to repair it. However, this all-new sneak peek at “Restoration” doesn’t exactly provide Arrow fans with much hope that Oliver and Diggle will be able to reconcile. Not only are the two of them butting heads on missions together, but Oliver is beginning to believe that they’ll never get back to where they were. “Time hasn’t been doing anything,” Oliver tells Felicity, “apologies haven’t.” “What are you saying?” she asks. “I’m saying that I’m done waiting for him to come around,...

On Wednesday night, after taping his next-to-last Daily Show, Jon Stewart walked down a backstage hallway. "One more night!" he said, sounding gleeful and fatigued and slightly concerned about controlling his emotions. "Tomorrow night's gonna be nuts!"No doubt he’s right. But no matter what wackiness may occur during tonight's special hour-long finale, one of the most remarkable things is that Stewart seems to be ending his 16-and-a-half-year run with his feet still firmly on the ground. Then again, comedy and sanity have been on his mind for a long time. Back in 1993, Stewart was the host of a struggling talk show on MTV, and I was writing about him, and as we walked past West Fourth Street the conversation somehow turned to whether it was possible to be seriously funny and mentally well-balanced. The great comics I'd met to that point were pretty twisted. Stewart, though, was...

We bet Chelsea Handler's ex is feeling pretty dumb right about now.
Last night, Handler posted a sexy bikini photo to her 1.9 million Instagram followers in response to a former boyfriend who had criticized her body. (Insane, we know.)
"You know, I had a boyfriend who told me my boobs were too big and that I was fat," she captioned the photo. "And then, I looked in the mirror."
Handler, smiling in a low-cut, mismatched bikini and striped visor, looks as fit – and happy – as ever.

Tomorrow night, the full length trailer for the sarcasm-filled "Deadpool" will arrive, but first, the superhero has something to say about the meta, self-aware, potty mouthed comic book flick.
