Early every morning, a perfect falsetto disrupts Paul Thomas’ dreams as Magoo, one of his talking African gray parrots, alerts him that it’s time to face the day.
Within minutes, another parrot, Sabrina, and a cockatoo named Murphy are also chiming in, leading Thomas to sigh and reach for his slippers, then smile, knowing that his birds will greet him with friendly squawks and a wisecrack or two.
“I tend to them and they tend to me,” says the former Air Force firefighter, 36, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. “They give me a consistent, enjoyable daily routine filled with love and respect.

James Corden loves jamming out to popular songs with famous singers, but admitted it’s not always easy to get the rights to do so on television. So to switch things up, he decided to sing public domain songs with none other than Jamie Foxx. The duo put their own soulful spin on classic songs like “Pop Goes the Weasel,” “Row Row Row Your Boat,” “Bingo” and “Twinkle Twinkle Like Star.” “Is it just me? It’s feeling sexy in here!” Corden said. See Video: Watch Jamie Foxx Pursue Kidnappers Through the Streets of Vegas in 'Sleepless' Trailer...

James Corden recruited Jamie Foxx to perform a soulful and often risqué medley of public domain songs like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," on Thursday's Late Late Show.
Corden explained that while he loves singing medleys of songs with his friends – i.e. Carpool Karaoke – "paying for the rights to sing songs on television can be very, very expensive ... And frankly, we blew our budget on catering." With that, Corden brought out Foxx to spice up some unlicensed public domain songs like "She'll Be Coming...

Jamie Foxx and James Corden don’t need songwriters to create a new hit! The musically inclined pair crafted catchy tunes with the help of public domain songs.

“Frankly, we blew our budget on catering,” Corden quipped when explaining why they would only be singing public domain songs.
When Foxx, the star of musical films like Ray and Dreamgirls took the stage, Corden began, “You know, Jamie, the truth is, sometimes love can be confusing.”
“I’m confused all the time. It’s so true,” Foxx agreed. “Sometimes you’re on top of the world, but sometimes you just feel like you’re going ‘round and ‘round the same mulberry bush.”
“Sometimes you’re the monkey,” Corden noted. “And sometimes you’re the weasel.”
They then broke into a jazzy rendition of “Pop Goes the Weasel.”

The first trailer for Peppa Pig: My First Cinema Experience has landed, and the BBFC confirms a U certificate.
Just a quick update here. The BBFC has now classified Peppa Pig: My First Cinema Experience, and has given it a U certificate. The ruling, that you can find here, also confirms that the work has been passed uncut. In a world where John Wick 2 has had snips made to it to get its desired rating in UK cinemas, the news that Peppa is unscathed will be a welcome relief to fans of the show.

We thought we'd died and gone to musical heaven after hearing Celine Dion sing "My Heart Will Go On" for the first time in the '90s. We even thought we'd been born again after listening to her sing a Rihanna-fied version of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" on The Tonight Show in July. But it wasn't until we heard her belt out a gorgeous, classical version of "Hot in Herre" (yes, the song by Nelly) that we truly appreciated her skills. The singer, who recently honored her late husband at the annual Stand Up to Cancer event, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday morning where she wowed the audience by putting her own spin on popular rap songs. Watch the video above to witness her slay everything from Missy Elliott's "Work It" to Lmfao's "Shots."...

Everyone knows that Celine Dion's voice is one of a kind, but it turns out, she's also pretty good at imitating other artists. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the singer showed off a completely different side of herself as she participated in a special game of Wheel of Musical Impressions. Not only does she perfectly impersonate music legends like Cher and Michael Jackson, but she also busts out some serious dance moves during her Rihanna version of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." Honestly, the whole segment will only make you love her more. Adele's popular tunes are set to be turned into baby-friendly versions.
The British singer's famed songs Hello, Someone Like You and Set Fire to the Rain are all going to be turned into lullabies on a new album produced by Rockabye Baby!, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Rockabye Baby! will create soothing editions of the 27-year-old's hit tracks using xylophones, wind chimes, bells and classroom-style instruments. While the reinterpreted songs will feature no Adele-sung lyrics, the music company claims they have been reworked to help newborns sleep, a concept which will undoubtedly appeal to new parents.
Prior to the Adele album, Rockabye Baby! has turned hits by a diverse range of music artists into instrumental versions, including songs by Fleetwood Mac, Blink-182, Rihanna and Kanye West.
The album may also appeal to the Skyfall singer's three-year-old son Angelo, whom she shares with partner Simon Konecki.

Raise your hand if you screamed bloody murder at the end of "Insidious"? Yup, we did, too!
The surprise horror hit left off on a giant cliffhanger, with Patrick Wilson's Josh seemingly possessed by a creepy old woman after rescuing his son from the shadowy world called "The Further."
As the trailer for the sequel, "Insidious: Chapter 2," shows, the story picks up where it left off. Josh and wife Renai (Rose Byrne) take their kids to live with his mother Lorraine (Barbara Hershey). But a terrified Renai soon realizes something is still terribly wrong.
"Whatever it was that was haunting our family, it's not done with us," Lorraine says, as a bone-chilling version of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" plays in the trailer.
In a recent interview, director James Wan teased that "Insidious: Chapter 2" would feature "the element of time travel" and explore Lorraine and paranormal investigator Elise's past.

Last month FEARnet paid a visit to historic (and reportedly haunted) L.A. landmark Linda Vista Hospital, where director James Wan and his cast and crew filmed several key scenes for the highly-anticipated sequel to Insidious. Last night we returned to that spooky locale for an advance screening of the trailer for Insidious: Chapter 2, hosted by the director himself. First, we did a creepy walk-through down the hospital's dark and dusty corridors, including several locations used in the film. One in particular was the darkened hallway shown above, where my camera captured some trails that may have been floating specks of dust... but then again, there was no breeze blowing in the corridor at the time. I'll let you fill in the rest with your imagination. It's also an interesting challenge to try and figure out which of the many oddities encountered in Linda Vista's halls are just leftover...

We're not surprised that Jimmy Fallon had a Michael McDonald impression in his back pocket (he probably has an impression of you in his back pocket, reader, so watch out), but last night on "Late Night," musician-in-residence Justin Timberlake proved that he didn't do a half-bad mimicry of the Doobie Brothers singer, either.
But you know who did him best of all? Michael McDonald. The blue-eyed soul crooner joined up with Fallon and Timberlake to perform a yacht rock-tastic version of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," before launching into a raucous original melody with The Roots about the joys of rowing one's boat.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Written by David Loughery
Directed by William Shatner
USA, 1989
With Jj Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness making its way to theatres this May, Trek is already on a lot of fans’ minds, particularly the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain. Is he secretly playing Khan? Or maybe space Sherlock? How dare he play Khan! But it’s not as if the franchise’s spotty record demands such unwavering defence. In fact, the putrid smudge of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier alone makes a strong case for a rebooted franchise, in spite of both itself and its prune-faced hi-jinx.
Across the sandy dunes of Nimbus III, a Vulcan named Sybock (Laurence Luckenbill) ransoms three ambassadors in the hopes of capturing a ship from an inevitable Federation rescue, which he plans to use on his journey to the lost planet of Sha Ka Ree, roughly translated as “obvious afterlife metaphor.

Multi-hyphenate Beyoncé Knowles' HBO documentary special which is being described "a fusion of video that provides raw, unprecedented access to the private entertainment icon and high-voltage performances," now has an official title. Previously given the generic, working title, Beyoncé: A Documentary Special, the documentary film will be called Beyoncé: Life Is But A Dream. It immediately makes me think of the nursery rhyme, Row, Row, Row Your Boat. The cable TV network plans to air the film, exclusively, starting on February 16, 2013. Further, according to the press release: The film is a...

Full time late-night talk show host, part time game show enthusiast Jimmy Fallon orchestrated yet another hilarious competition last night on Late Night.
Keira Knightley and Dave Matthews squared off against Fallon and Michael Bublé in an intense round of “The Musical Instrument Game.” The holiday themed song guessing game involved odd instruments, discordant sounds, and plenty of confusion on Matthews’ part. The singer forgot that Bublé was a musician.
“I feel like this exposes me in a professional way,” Matthews said. “Me too,” Bublé responded. “You’re not a … I mean … you are a musician,” Matthews then exclaimed. Nice save,...

An Alaskan fisherman survived 26 hours in the ocean after his boat sank. Ryan Harris, 19, spent the night in a plastic crate used to store fish after a wave overturned and sank his boat, just off the coast of Sitka, Alaska. According to Reuters, Harris told a local newspaper that he sang songs like 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' and 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' to keep himself awake. Harris also said that he gave himself a 'pep talk' and repeated that he was "not going to die". The 28-foot boat overturned on late Friday, leaving Harris and fellow fisherman Stonie (more)...

It's week four and our bachelorette is excited to begin the next step of her amazing journey in which the negotiated part of her contract allows Little Ricki and her school tutor to travel the world with high hopes that Emily finds true love somewhere between Charlotte and the Florida Keys. And what better place to discover love than Bermuda? During hurricane season! Ah yes. Nothing says romance like gale force winds, constant rain storms and a trip to the local perfumery.
Ironically, Little Ricki displayed more maturity when she was frolicking in the cold ocean or counting newly hatched baby chickens in the hotel garden than most of the men vying for Emily's love and affection. I've compiled a list of classic children's songs to commemorate the complete and utter juvenile behavior exhibited in the episode.

Chicago – I had some notable problems with ABC’s “The River,” saying in my review of the series premiere, “…while the show has effective moments of horror, they never quite build the way you want them to in a cohesive piece due to the creators feeling the need to get at least one major scare between every break.” Watching where the show went with the first season DVD, hitting stores this week, I stand by my criticisms (I have problems with every episode) but I kind of wish that the creators had been given time to iron out their kinks. The fact is that there simply isn’t enough programming on network TV that one could call daring and while I think “The River” was flawed it was undeniably unlike anything else in your DVR.

Leslie Hope has insisted that The River has plenty of potential for a second season. The ABC horror drama - from Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity) - concluded on Tuesday night (March 20) with first season finale 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat'. "[Our writers] could tell stories for the rest of our lives put together," Hope told TVLine. "They've always got something simmering between all three of them, so I have no doubt that would have plenty of stories to spin." She added: "The truth is, there are a lot of stories to be told when you put people together in a space like [the Amazon]." Hope - (more)...

The season finale of The River had a lot going on: the crew reacted to having the object of their mission recovered, Jahel got an inkling of character development beyond being a personified spooky Amazon Wiki (sort of), Kurt owned up to being more heavily invested in the expedition than anyone on the Magus realized (but just barely), there were a couple murders, and an exorcism – and that’s probably the biggest problem with The River. The series has been inconsistent if nothing else. After exploding out of the gate with the fast paced, action packed, and thrilling two part pilot, the series has meandered among tired clichés and poor writing masquerading in a more original program’s clothing, only occasionally reminding its audience of the actually intriguing and mysterious elements that initially sucked us in, and only when Dr. Emmett Cole (Bruce Greenwood) was directly featured.

The River Episode 108 "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" Written By: Aron Eli Coleite & Michael Green Directed By: Gary Fleder Original Airdate: 20 March 2012 In This Episode... With Emmet safe, the crew of the Magus heads home. But naturally, it's not all peaches n' cream. Shots ring out on the deck, and a bullet meant for Emmet misses and hits Lincoln in the neck. He is dead in seconds. Tess is hysterical, and everyone starts pointing fingers at everyone else. None of the 87 cameras on that ship caught the gunman. Jahel says that Lincoln's soul is still with them on the boat, and she can bring him back to life. Emmet says no, but grief-stricken Tess...

It cannot be said that the unexpected didn't happen on the Magus. From Lena remembering her days as a child - and hearing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" - to the death of Lincoln, the first 15 minutes of this season finale were riveting.
They also gave us a plethora of The River Quotes.
Our young, all-knowing boat captain, Jahel, received a call from someone on the Bouina and instantly knew how to use it to bring Lincoln back. While everyone else cowered in their bunks, Tess trusted Jahel and they called upon the Boiuna to resurrect Lincoln. The scene was intense. In the room with Tess and Jahel things were flying about and generally had the "there's a spell happening vibe" while dead Lincoln was taken over by the river. When the water receded, he was alive.
But our good man Lincoln didn't return of the same mind as the one with which he died.

Once again, "Mr. Honesty" has lead me to crown the Grahams as Parents of the Week. One of the very best things about this season is the increased role of Sam Jaeger's Joel Graham. I know many of you appreciate his talents as much as I do, and I look forward to reading your thoughts on his awesomeness this week.
Sometimes, deception wins
Adam is just not that stupid. Really, I don't believe the character we have enjoyed for two years is an idiot. Yet only an idiot would have told his wife, who just gave birth, that the hot new receptionist kissed him. Or he kissed her. Whatever, he wouldn't say it. He is wise enough to know that honesty can break the bank.
So why decide to write Adam as a complete tool now? The seed was planted when he lost his position at the shoe company or,...

Most films, however awful they may be, always contain at least one nugget of cinematic richness.
Below is our list of seven features (some of which are plain disappointments, while others are just plain bad) that all share a commonality in regards to the inclusion of one scene where that ticket purchase or time invested in home viewing was (almost) justifiable.
Richard Gere’s car crash in Intersection
Some of you may not be overly familiar with this film, and why would you? It’s a little-seen 1994 feature in which Gere stars alongside a post-Basic Instinct Sharon Stone in a familiar flashback-leaden Hollywood melodrama about a marriage on the rocks, which failed to make any dent at the box office and has since slipped into relative anonymity.
It does however (oddly) feature one of the greatest car crashes committed to film and happened towards the end, before Gere’s...

Hot on the heels of their announcing new ventures in the video game market and on Broadway, the Weinstein Company announced today that they've picked up the rights to several nursery rhymes with plans to adapt them into feature-length movies. However, like the upcoming 'Snow White and the Huntsman' and 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters,' these nursery rhymes will be given updated twists to make them more accessible to contemporary audiences.
Among the rhymes Weinstein picked up were 'Little Bo Peep,' 'Three Blind Mice,' 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat,' and 'Mary Had a Little Lamb.' Along with the announcement came news that Chloe Moretz has already signed on for 'Little Bo Peep: Vampire Nazi Hunter' (working title), which will arrive in theaters (in 3D, of course) on Oct. 15, 2012.
Additionally, Zach Galifianakis, Jack Black and Owen Wilson are in negotiations...

Movie buses aren’t like real buses at all. While you wait ages for a normal bus to arrive and then two come at once, great cinematic buses pull into your stop about once every decade. When they do arrive, however, they are always worth getting on.
When you or I take the bus, the floor is sticky and someone opens a window even though it’s minus 17 degrees. In the movies, buses do more than keep you waiting in the cold. And isn’t a bus nothing but a giant moving cinema? You can be cool by sitting at the back… the floor isn’t worth putting your shoes on… there are lots of annoying kids playing with their mobile phones… you’re often stuck in them for at least two hours.
Here are the big screen buses worth standing in the queue for.

Luke Wilson in Middle Men
Photo: Paramount Pictures Talk about Filmmaking 101; Middle Men is a would-be interesting story saddled with cliched trailer music and obnoxious voice over describing everything you see on screen as if you didn't have eyes and a brain of your own. This is a film where the straight men play it straight and everyone else plays it way over the top, and it's all too bad because this is a story that really could have turned a few heads had it been handled differently.
Producer Christopher Mallick, of whom the story is loosely based, describes the film in the press notes as something of a Wall Street-like feature only instead of having to do with the stock market it's dealing with the porn industry. Of course, as he points out, it's not about porn. He likes to say it's about greed, which it is for some parties involved,...

Recently I attended the first annual (or bi-annual? More soon, I hope!) SCOREcast Online mixer and picnic at a beautiful home here in La, and I sure enjoyed meeting and getting a chance to talk with a number of terrific folks. I got into an interesting conversation with some composers about the whole concept of “casting” musicians and “producing” their playing as they contribute to your score. Just as a film, television show, or play has a cast of actors to tell the story, so does the score, and the group of musicians you select can have a big impact on how your score comes out. This will be about assembling the perfect “cast” of musicians to enhance your score; in a subsequent article, I will write about the production process.
You may be aware that I am a strong advocate and fan of all the fantastic professional musicians, instrumentalists...

My descent into enjoying the ridiculous, casual horribleness of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami continued last night, with an episode that found “Khloé” in “journalist” mode and attempting to better understand the mind of the sociopath/serial killer. How she managed to lure Miami’s police chief to her late-night radio show, or score an audience with a renowned serial-killer expert is a mystery worthy of Jessica Fletcher — perhaps there’s just a little bit of famewhore inside all of us? — but I will state for the record that this woman makes me laugh. Perhaps because “Khloé” is in on the joke,...
