Tales told around the fire, especially a campfire, have been one of the primary ways humans have passed on myths, lore and scary stories in general as long as humans and fire have co-existed. And the movies have picked up on that, using it as a framing device in Grim Prairie Tales, Screams of a Winter Night and plenty of others.
In the aptly named anthology film Lore, a quartet of campers, Dan, Mark, Donna, and Sally share their stories with their guide, the exceptional creepy Darwin.

What’s your opinion on the adage about not working with animals and children, considering you’ve worked with Crystal the capuchin monkey several times? fandango87
I’ve worked with Crystal on a dozen projects – The Hangover, the TV show Community and another movie, The Zookeeper. She is just a miracle. For example, in The Hangover, [director] Todd Phillips would give a direction or a note and it would probably take me three or four takes. Crystal could literally do it on the spot. I was upstaged by a monkey, and now I’m at peace with that.
You had a brief but memorable role on the US Office as a member of Michael Scott’s improv class. How accurately did that improv class reflect your real experiences?...

It’s clear from the opening moments of Nathalie Biancheri’s remarkable sophomore narrative outing “Wolf” that there’s exactly one thing on the menu: full commitment. When the drama kicks off, star George MacKay is already immersed in his character, a young man who believes he was born in the wrong body (read: a human one) and is attempting to more fully connect with his true identity, that of a wolf. As a naked Jacob (MacKay) writhes and stretches in a patch of sunny forest, sniffing the air, taking in the splendor around him, seemingly far away from anything rooted in the human world, “Wolf” establishes its aims, both in terms of tone and emotion. It’s a risk, surely, but one that both MacKay and co-star Lily-Rose Depp are more than up for.
So is Biancheri. A former documentary filmmaker who was initially drawn to the thorny subject matter of “Wolf” — “species dysphoria,...

In 2018, when Sam Rockwell won award after award for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, he thanked his "beloved Leslie Bibb" in his acceptance speeches. The adorable pair, who've been together since 2007, met in a hotel lobby in Los Angeles, and he was the first celebrity she dated. But Leslie has quite the illustrious background herself, having been in the spotlight long before she and Sam started dating!

Welcome to hell. In order to properly contextualize just how painful it is to sit through “Escape Plan 2: Hades,” here is a comprehensive list of the movie’s virtues:
Sylvester Stallone successfully says the word “algorithm.” 50 Cent plays a GQ-styled security expert named “Hush.” There’s a scene where Dave Bautista solves a Rubik’s Cube and then physically threatens Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. At one point, Bautista walks by a marquee for Idina Menzel while wearing an outfit that can only be described as “Pitbull cos-play.” The film immediately cuts away the moment that Stallone begins to creep on one of his employees. That employee is played by Jaime King, an actress who continues to make everything she’s in at least a little bit better. Titus Welliver shows up as an ultra-serious bad guy who insists that his victims call him “The Zookeeper.”
And that’s it.

A troubled shoot won't ease the concerns of followers of Kite, the cult Japanese anime written and directed by Yasuomi Umetsu. The Hollywood movie version has been in production for years, but filming stalled when original director, David R. Ellis, died in his Johannesburg hotel room during filming. Ralph Ziman (The Zookeeper) took over directorial duties and this is our first glimpse of the live action adaptation starring Samuel L. Jackson. The original series - consisting of two 30 minute episodes - was banned in many countries, including Norway, where it was outlawed for scenes of "child pornography", which is a criminal offence in Norway. That said, Kite is considered a cult classic in many circles and a Hollywood version was always going to find the going tough. No pressure there then. Synopsis: The film, which takes place in a post-financial collapse corrupt society, follows a girl who tries to track...

In honor and anticipation of Zookeeper's release this Friday (not to be confused with The Zookeeper, in which Sam Neill apparently tells an elephant to f*ck off), I've come up with ten ironclad ideas for future Kevin James film projects. Based on his oeuvre, I can confidently say there is no way Mr. James will turn any of these down.
Beekeeper - A direct sequel to both Zookeeper and Bee Movie finds Mr. James tending to an unruly hive led by none other than Barry B. Benson (voice of Jerry Seinfeld).

In an unnamed Eastern European country ravaged by civil war, zookeeper Ludovic (Sam Neill) along with a veterinarian (Om Puri) cares for the animals in a small zoo: a couple of tigers, lions, a panther, several primates (including a pregnant monkey), a couple of elephants and various zebras, llamas, goats, sheep and birds. The city is being bombed, and they’re hoping for a break in the fighting so that relief agencies can airlift the animals to safety.
As Ludovic trudges to and from his dreary job (light years away from the prestigious government job he had before the war), Neill gives an excellent browbeaten performance, his sullen demeanor conveying the shell-shocked, anguished, lowly zoo employee. All the other employees have fled so he is left with the enormous and emotional responsibility of taking care of the animals in the deserted zoo.

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Burlesque – Christina Aguilera, Cher
Faster – Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Grace
Love and Other Drugs – Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway
Tangled – Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Ron Perlman
Movie of the Week
Faster
The Stars: Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Grace
The Plot: An ex-con (Johnson) sets out to avenge his brother’s death.
The Buzz: Dwayne Johnson is back in straight-up action mode — after The Tooth Fairy and The Race to Witch Mountain — I was wondering if he’d ever return. Yes, Faster is certainly an action film, but it appears to be more than that; it appears to be a wildly rampaging, no-holds-barred, glorious tale of bullet-sweet vengeance. Well, that’s my gut-shot feeling anyway. Billy Bob Thornton is poised to play the perfect foil as the “slow justice” cop that stands in Johnson’s vengeful way. There are a couple solid female actresses here as well,...
