Former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel has only appeared once on NBC News programming in her new capacity as a political news contributor, and already, senior executives are gathering to conduct a review.
Top executives from NBC News were expected to meet Tuesday to hash out the growing controversy around her recent hire, according to two people familiar with the matter, in a bid to stop a growing insurrection by the NBCUniversal unit’s editorial staff. In recent days, prominent anchors ranging from Chuck Todd to Rachel Maddow have spoken out against the hire on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” as well as on MSNBC, charging NBC News executives with giving a platform to McDaniel despite her efforts to help former President Donald Trump dismiss the integrity of the 2020 presidential election.

A long line of MSNBC’s most popular anchors spent Monday calling out the network’s corporate sibling, NBC News, for its hire of former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel in a stunning display of internal rifts laid bare on the TV screen.
The hire of McDaniel as a contributor is “inexplicable,” Rachel Maddow said on MSNBC Monday night as part of a half-hour commercial-free monologue that painted the former politico as one in a line of fascists and would-be usurpers who have tried to take over America’s political process. McDaniel, who during her time as RNC head helped former President Donald Trump in his efforts to nullify the 2020 presidential election, said Maddow, “is part of an ongoing project to get rid of our system of government.”

Snow will continue to appear on “Today,” “NBC Nightly News” and other NBC programs as the network’s senior national correspondent. Next week on Sunday, Feb. 25 will be her final time anchoring the “Nightly News” broadcast.

Kate Snow, the NBC News veteran who has anchored the network’s Sunday broadcast of “NBC Nightly News” since 2015, plans to exit the post next week, she disclosed to viewers of the program Sunday evening, citing growing responsibilities tied to streaming content.
The move may be a sign that her presence is needed elsewhere. Snow, who is also a senior national correspondent for NBC News, has since September of 2022 co-anchored parts of “NBC News Daily,” a set of daytime hours that both stream on NBC News Now and appear in the daytime schedules of all NBC affiliates. NBC News has placed increasing emphasis on reaching viewers with streaming content, and has continued to expand the original programming it offers in that venue. Those duties, plus those that have Snow reporting on stories during the week for “Today” and the weekday broadcasts of “NBC Nightly News,” have begun to add up.

SAG-AFTRA calls explicit A.I. images of Taylor Swift that are circulating on social media “upsetting, harmful, and deeply concerning.”
A post on the SAG-AFTRA website details the issue.
“The sexually explicit, A.I.-generated images depicting Taylor Swift are upsetting, harmful, and deeply concerning. The development and dissemination of fake images — especially those of a lewd nature — without someone’s consent must be made illegal.
“As a society, we have it in our power to control these technologies, but we must act now before it is too late. SAG-AFTRA continues to support legislation by Congressman Joe Morelle, the Preventing Deepfakes of Intimate Images Act, to make sure we stop exploitation of this nature from happening again.
“We support Taylor, and women everywhere who are the victims of this kind of theft of their privacy and right to autonomy.
The ability to create fake images has grown exponentially recently as commercial A.

Lester Holt may be turning up more frequently in David Muir’s rear-view mirror.

Lester Holt is taking NBC Nightly News to Alaska next week for a special broadcast that will focus on the U.S. defense against foreign aircraft and missile threats amid tensions with Russia and China.
Holt will anchor the broadcast from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage on Monday, and he will travel to a U.S. Air Force early warning radar site on the Aleutian Islands.
U.S. defense tracking was in the spotlight earlier this year with the Chinese spy balloon, and Holt will interview commander General Glen VanHerck, commander of United States Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command, about the incident and other issues on Thursday’s broadcast. NBC’s Nightly News, which has been on the air since August 3, 1970, is getting a long-awaited make-over, including a new logo and an updated color palette. As first reported by Variety, the modernized look will debut on Monday, June 19, with a brand new logo, which you can see in the picture above. Unlike the old logo, which included the full NBC Nightly News title along with its host’s name Lester Holt, the updated version goes for a more sleek look, with a double “N,” in which sits the iconic NBC peacock logo. In addition, Marc Greenstein, senior vice president of design and product for NBC News and MSNBC, told Variety that the show will move away from traditional colors associated with evening news programs and instead adopt a purple and warm blue palette. “We want to meet people where they want to consume our products,” Greenstein shared with Variety.

The Olympics are a big deal for NBCUniversal.
The winter and summer games dominate the ratings, the culture and the sports landscape while they are happening. And they serve as a tentpole for Peacock, the company’s streaming service.
So with the Paris 2024 Olympics a little over a year away, the company is just beginning to get out its message to viewers: Save the date.
NBCU is beginning a multi-platform marketing push, using the “Save the Date” theme, to get consumers amped up for the Olympics, which will kick off July 26 of next year. And to help it do so, the company is turning to some old friends:
In the first commercial spot for the new campaign, legendary country singer Dolly Parton (who has appeared in NBC Christmas specials), WWE superstar Roman Reigns and a minion are all involved.

When Lester Holt visits Florida next week, it won’t be for a vacation. But he will take the regular format of “NBC Nightly News” on a short trip.
The veteran anchor will visit Fort Myers Beach and Miami early next week, and on each of two nights will spend a significant amount of time delving into news and issues pertinent to those locations.
“There are a lot of stories to be told in Florida, not just from a political standpoint, but environmental and tourism and recovery from storm disaster,” Holt says in an interview. He’s traveled to Fort Myers before, when a hurricane was making its way through the city, but “the idea is to visit places when they are not necessarily going through their worst day,”

Recently fired Fox News producer Abby Grossberg has revealed more behind-the-scenes details of her tenure at the network, saying her boss once told her after the 2020 presidential election that fact-checking at the network had been curbed and that show host Maria Bartiromo could “go wild.”
Grossberg, in an interview with NBC News that was to air Thursday night on “Nightly News with Lester Holt,” said her boss’ text message was part of an effort at Fox News that suddenly threw “caution to the wind.”
“There was no one to be found,” said Grossberg, who is suing Fox News, alleging she was set up to take undue blame in the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit against the network. “And these were the individuals that were ultimately responsible for the programming at the network.”
Grossberg paraphrased a text message from her boss in the interview with NBC News, indicating there had been a change in approach.

The Fall of 2001 was a tense time in America, to say the least. The 9/11 attacks had permanently altered the course of history as grief and paranoia swept the country over. A brewing war in Afghanistan heralded escalating violence overseas, while at home there appeared a strange, spooky bioterrorism campaign that weaponized the bacteria called anthrax. "Amerithrax," as the FBI called it, involved a series of infected letters mailed to prominent media figures and two Senators, leading to the death of five people and long-lasting health problems for more. 30 Rockefeller Plaza, headquarters of NBC, was among the targets, which meant that "Saturday Night Live" and its host during the height of the attacks, Drew Barrymore, could do nothing but crack jokes knowing that anthrax may have been floating through the building.
The anthrax saga started with the hospitalization and subsequent death of Robert Stevens on October 4, 2001, an event that initially seemed like an isolated incident.

When NBC News announced in January that Hallie Jackson, its senior Washington correspondent, would leave the anchoring duties she had held at MSNBC since 2016, some eyebrows rose. But NBC News was chasing something else on the rise: Digital audiences.
Since Jackson began anchoring a late-afternoon hour on NBC News Now in December 2021, a growing audience has sought her out. Viewership surged 108% over the course of a year. “You don’t see those numbers in many businesses,” says Janelle Rodriguez, the NBC News executive vice president who oversees the streaming outlet, in an interview. “When you see that level of audience increase, you know you are on to something,” On Monday, Jackson will double her time on her program, “Hallie Jackson Now,” to two hours, which means she will hold forth from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Chris Jansing is accustomed to doing marathon stints in front of the camera for NBC News and MSNBC. In the aftermath of 9/11, she sometimes found herself reporting or anchoring for seven hours or more. “I lived on tater tots for, I think, two months,” she recalls in a recent interview. “It was the one thing that could fill me up and wouldn’t ruin my lipstick.”
Her latest assignment will require her to be on air only for two hours a day. But it may prove just as challenging.
In an era when cable-news anchoring stints are usually doled out 60 minutes at a time, Jansing is taking on more. The new edition of her “Chris Jansing Reports” at 1 p.m. expands to two hours, and her widening territory comes as MSNBC’s identity is increasingly tied up with a growing spate of opinion and “news perspective” programs. Thinking about a job in broadcast news? The two top spots have long been co-anchoring one of the nation’s big morning programs or leading an evening newscast. These days, there appears to be room for a third.
Each weekday at 1 p.m. on ABC, Amy Robach. T.J. On Monday, the trio opened their hour with a look at how monkeypox is affecting children as well as flooding in the southwest. But there is also room for stories that are less dire: Actor Colman Domingo paid a visit last week, and Fridays feature a segment devoted to faith.

The deal was cemented despite growing speculation that CBS News, under the direction of co-president Neeraj Khemlani, might seek to replace the anchor, who has seen her profile grow during a stint co-anchoring the formerly-titled “CBS This Morning” and a tenure at a “CBS Evening News” that has moved its main...

CAA has signed Peter Alexander, the co-chief White House correspondent for NBC News, and will represent him in his dealings with media and other potential employers.
Alexander is also co-anchor of the weekend broadcast of “Today,” which he joined in October of 2018. He and Kristen Welker, who is also NBC News’ co-chief White House correspondent, have led “Today” on weekends since January of 2020, anchoring the program from Washington, D.C.
Alexander has been with NBC News since 2004 and has covered events around the world as well as in the nation’s capital. He gained some degree of notoriety when, during the Trump administration, he asked President Donald Trump what he had to say to Americans who might be scared in the earliest days of the pandemic. Trump rebuked Alexander and the question, missing out on opportunity to reassure the nation and revealing something about his inner character. Alexander has also helped cover two different Olympics,...

Fox announced that lawyer, journalist and former “The View” co-host Star Jones has been appointed judge of the first-run syndicated series “Divorce Court,” starting in September.
As television’s longest running court show, “Divorce Court” dates back to the late 1950’s, when actors used to reenact actual divorce proceedings. Today, the program features real people and real cases — ranging from divorce court proceedings to other domestic disputes.
Judge Faith Jenkins will continue through the end of Season 23 and Jones will join for Season 24. Jones, a former assistant district attorney in New York and former legal correspondent on NBC’s “Today Show,” “Nightly News” and more, said that she will “offer the parties before ‘Divorce Court,’ as well as viewers, a no-nonsense approach to the law and a decision driven by my proven legal expertise, compassion and empathy, personal experiences and hard-earned common sense.”

Brian Williams, the veteran anchor who became an integral part of MSNBC after a critical on-air gaffe in 2015 while behind the anchor desk at “NBC Nightly News” led to his removal from that landmark program, is parting ways with the cable-news outlet and striking out on his own.
His next steps in the news business, or whether he expects to continue in it, remain unknown.
“After nearly three decades as an award-winning journalist and anchor at MSNBC and NBC News, Brian Williams has informed us he would like to take the coming months to spend time with his family,:” said Rashida Jones, president of MSNBC, in a memo Tuesday night. “He will be signing off from The 11th Hour at the end of the year.”
Williams is currently in the last months of a contract. He has since just before the 2016 presidential election hosted MSNBC’s “The 11th Hour,...

Natalie Morales has proven herself a versatile anchor who logged time at “Today,” “Access Hollywood” and “Dateline” and still managed to find time to do daredevil stunts with colleague Jenna Bush Hager. Now she’s heading out on a new adventure — at a talk show that serves as a rival to her soon-to-be former employer.
Morales told staffers Friday at the NBCUniversal-backed news division that she plans to leave “to spread my own wings and to pursue a new adventure.” She has been with NBC News for 22 years. NBC News declined to offer details about where the anchor might head next, but two people familiar with the matter suggested she is expected to land at “The Talk,” the CBS mid-afternoon panel program that has been on the hunt for new hosts. CBS declined to comment.
Morales is seen joining “Talk” panelists Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots, Jerry O’Connell and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila.
