Sammy Davis Jr.'s daughter Tracey Davis has spoken out on Billy Crystal's Oscar blackface controversy, and she insists her late father wouldn't have been offended.
"I am 100 percent certain my father is smiling," Davis told The Hollywood Reporter. "Billy previously played my father [on Saturday Night Live] when he was alive, and my father gave Billy his full blessing."
Davis also noted that she knows Crystal's impressions come from a good place.
"I know the mutual love, respect and admiration that you had for each other and for his kids, Jeff, Mark and I," she continued. "Thank you."
Regardless of Davis' feelings on Crystal's decision to appear in blackface during the first five minutes of the Academy Awards, others didn't take the impression as lightly.
"Shows just how far we've come since Billy Crystal appeared in blackface," comedian Paul Scheer tweeted when Octavia Spencer took the award for Best Supporting Actress in "The Help.

The 54th Grammy Awards are being broadcast by CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Kanye West led the field at the 2012 Grammys with seven nominations, though he was not nominated for Best Album. Adele was nominated for six awards, including Best Album, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.
The awards were given a somber tone by news of Whitney Houston's death Saturday afternoon. The singer was 48 years old. A cause of death was not immediately known. Jennifer Hudson was scheduled to perform Houston's biggest hit, a cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You," at the Grammys as a tribute to the late star.
Many of music's biggest acts were scheduled to perform at the award show, including The Beach Boys, deadmau5, The Foo Fighters, Adele and Rihanna.

Susan Boyle has honoured with her own wax figure at Blackpool’s Madame Tussauds.
The Britain’s Got Talent star attended a special ceremony yesterday, and unveiled her likeness – which cost £150,000 to create.
With every detail of the 50-year-old star encapsulated in the creation, Susan admitted she was thrilled with the outcome.
She said: “What can you say? They have done a very good job. It feels fantastic. It was such a great process to be involved in and it looks very realistic. She’s doing a better job than me!”
The model will be displayed in the ‘Big Night In section, beside Strictly Come Dancing host Bruce Forsyth but Subo admitted she would rather her likeness was stood next to the man who discovered her, Simon Cowell.
When asked where she would like her waxy alter-ego to be placed, she said: “Next to Simon Cowell, of course, no doubt about that!
