Rahul Rawail is an extraordinary filmmaker, he gave Bollywood some of the best films in the 80s. However, he faded out in the 90s and gave some vulgar crap films like Budha Mar Gaya. Anyways, Rawail is not a bad director, its just that he directed the wrong films in the 90s. Rawail is know for introducing Sunny Deol in the blockbuster film Betaab, he gave Sunny his first superhit action film Arjun, then he gave Sunny a flop with Samundar, and then a hit with Dacait. However, Yodha is too ordinary to compare with these sucesses.

The film started off well and promised to be a decent action film but completely faltered after some scenes. The first courtroom scene where Sunny Deol fights for justice and shows his skills is well demonstrated for a Bollywood film, but slowly the fil starts becoming bad. The first action scene between Sunny and Sanjay is prolonged and clichéd, the scene where the minster gets arrested for smuggling drugs and Dutt also gets arrested is stupidly executed. To make matters worse, Danny suddenly looses all his power and is seen as a beggar for 20 mins. Like seriously what the heck, he's running after some guy for money after he said he wouldn't beg??? Not only that but he gets insulted by Paresh Rawal then with Sanjay Dutt's help, he makes Paresh act like a dog???? Some of the scenes in the pre interval portions are so horrible they make you cringe. The climax fight scene is average with a few engaging moments. Then Sanjay Dutt dies, Sunny is wounded they somehow finish Danny the villain. The film could've been much better for being a Rahul Rawail film.

Direction by Rahul Rawail is absolute crass, he handles a few scenes well but the rest of it is mostly average and a few scenes are despicable. K.K Singh(script writer) doesn't know what sanity means, how can u make a man into a dog like that? Sanjay Dutt fresh of blocbuster film Hathyar and flop films like Fateh does decently in most scenes, he knows how to express his anger, his death scene is bad though. Sunny Deol does his trademark hamming at parts but he does a good job especially in the action scenes with Sanjay. Sangeeta Bijlaani is the heroine and though she shows some acting properly in parts of the film. Hats of to Danny for doing the same typical acting as the villain properly with style though his running after money as a beggar is irritating. Paresh Rawal in his worst role is passable, I laughed but got extremely angry at he script writers for making such a bogus scene where Paresh is a dog. Anu Kapoor is annoying and he mouths the same old dialogs. Shafi Inamader does decently in a small role. Overall, acting is decent.

Music is average, the Whole Day Whole Night Dil Tarse song is catchy and fun to listen to though.

On the whole, Yodha is one of these crap films in the early 90s period when Rahul Rawail lost his special touch of superb direction and gave crass films like this one. Not only does the movie contain bad editing, but bad acting from some people.
