Hulu has ordered a comedy pilot from Steve Levitan and John Enbom with Keegan-Michael Key and Johnny Knoxville attached to star, Variety has learned.
In the pilot, titled “Reboot,” Hulu decides to reboot an early 2000’s family sitcom. Its dysfunctional cast is forced back together and now must deal with their unresolved issues in today’s fast-changing world.
Levitan is the creator, executive producer, and showrunner and also wrote the pilot story. Levitan and Enbom wrote the pilot teleplay. Enbom will serve as writer and executive producer on the series. Danielle Stokdyk will also executive produce. 20th Television, where Levitan is currently under an overall deal, will serve as the studio.
“Reboot” is the first announced project for Levitan since the ending of “Modern Family” in April 2020 after eleven seasons and 250 episodes. Levitan co-created the hit ABC single-cam sitcom, which won 22 Emmy Awards throughout its run, including five wins for best comedy series.

The fourth episode of “The Masked Singer” on October 14 saw the return of five stars from Group B who had shone in their first appearance two weeks ago. A half dozen contestants had competed on episode 2 of season 4. Five — who were disguised as the Baby Alien, Crocodile, Seahorse, Serpent and Whatchamacallit — won over the audience with their singing. The sixth, the Gremlin, failed to impress both the audience and the four judges and was revealed by host Nick Cannon to be Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke.
We’ve been busy since that second episode trying to figure out which famous faces are hiding beneath these elaborate masks. Keep reading if you want to know as we have all “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the name of the Baby Alien, who dazzled the crowd with a toe-tapping cover of “Faith” by George Michael in his first appearance.

“Modern Family” co-creator Steve Levitan is extending his relationship with 20th Century Fox Television, inking a multi-year overall deal at the studio and effectively joining the Walt Disney family.
He will create, write, develop, direct and supervise series projects for 20th, and continue to oversee “Modern Family” with co-creator and executive producer Chris Lloyd through its 11th and final season, which ends its run on ABC next year.
The new deal keeps Levitan with his longtime studio home of two decades, but under a new corporate parent whose politics no longer conflict with his own, now that Disney has completed the acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment portfolio. Levitan told Variety last year that he would not work with the Murdoch family-controlled Fox spinoff that includes Fox News, Fox Sports, and the Fox broadcast network.

Sean Baker, director of acclaimed indie film The Florida Project, has received a grant from New York-based non-profit film company Cinereach which will allow him to research what will almost certainly become his next feature film.
The La-based Baker, who has been at International Film Festival Rotterdam with his film this week, will “take a road trip” using development funding from production company Cinereach (which also supported his research for The Florida Project) when he returns to the Us. During the journey, he will begin to draw up the screenplay for the new project, which is likely to be a character-driven drama set against the backdrop of the current opioid epidemic in the Us.

Chicago – It’s an epidemic in America, and it exists in a gray area that is not as prominent as other socio-economic issues. It is the “hidden homeless,” and the problem is uniquely defined as individuals who live week-to-week in cheap hotels, shelters and SROs, one circumstance away from being officially homeless. Writer/director Sean Baker takes this subject on in a stark-but-accessible narrative film called “The Florida Project.”
The film focuses on a mother Hailey (Bria Vinaite) and daughter Moonee (Brooklynn Prince) who live in an Orlando, Florida, tourist trap motel near Disney World. The mother has no visible means of support and scant resources, but manages to keep a room in the hotel managed by Bobby (Willem Dafoe, in a stellar turn). The adventures are from the Moonee’s point of view, a little girl making the best of her world, unaware that it could change at any moment.

Sean Baker, the creator of Fox’s Greg the Bunny, enjoyed breakout success (and Oscar buzz) with the 2015 film Tangerine. Telling the story of two transgender prostitutes, the movie was notably shot entirely on an iPhone 5. Once again, modern technology -- this time, Instagram -- is playing a pivotal role in the 46-year-old director’s latest film, The Florida Project, about 6-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince), and her tumultuous childhood, growing up right outside the happiest place on Earth, Walt Disney World.
Moonee and her young, out-of-work, single mom Halley (Instagram star Bria Vinaite) live week to week in the Magic Castle budget motel, run by the hardworking yet kindhearted Bobby (Willem Dafoe). It was Baker’s co-writer Chris Bergoch who brought the plight of Orlando’s hidden homeless population to Baker’s attention, and together they got to work on this film.

Deadline reports that Melissa McCarthy has signed on for The Happytime Murders, a long-gestating puppet noir comedy from The Jim Henson Company. McCarthy will produce on the project—which has been in the works for nearly a decade now, waiting for the right “vulgar puppet” boom to sweep it back into the zeitgeist—with her husband, Ben Falcone. The assumption is that McCarthy would also star in the film, although nobody’s confirming what part—human or otherwise—she might end up playing.
Happytime Murders is set in a world that’s a lot like Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, except with puppets in the place of cartoons. (Think Greg The Bunny, or, better yet, don’t.) The film’s plot kicks off when the washed-up puppet cast members of an old kids’ show start dropping dead, forcing an Lapd cop and their alcoholic former puppet partner to reunite and crack...

Sean Baker’s “The Florida Project” has found its lead in Willem Dafoe, who stands as the most high-profile actor the “Tangerine” director has worked with to date. Baker has won well-deserved critical acclaim for his body of work, and the success of last year’s “Tangerine” — which premiered at Sundance and was nominated for several Gotham and Independent Spirit Awards — appears to have brought him to wider attention within the industry.

Long before he co-created "Big Bang Theory," Bill Prady broke into show business as a low-level Jim Henson Co. staffer, working in licensing and other tangential Muppet-related departments before eventually getting to write for Gonzo and company himself. Now, his career has come full circle, as co-developer (with Bob Kushell) of "The Muppets," a new primetime series featuring Kermit and the gang that debuts on ABC on Tuesday night at 8. Back at press tour, before I had seen a full episode of the show, I spoke with Prady for a while about his history with Henson and these characters, and the specific approach he was taking with the new show, a mockumentary where Kermit is executive producing a late night talk show hosted by Miss Piggy, featuring Fozzie as her announcer, Electric Mayhem as the house band, and all the other familiar Muppet characters working backstage. Because ABC has tried...

Penned by Dan Milano (Greg The Bunny) and inspired by the Team Unicorn cartoons, the pilot is described as a modern twist on Saturday morning-style cartoon/live-action hybrid shows, but for adults. It follows the adventures of the four mythical heroines who masquerade as human girls. Danger Maiden Prods’ Clare Grant and Rileah Vanderbilt executive produce and star alongside original Team Unicorn member Milynn Sarley (How I Met Your Mother) and Alison Haislip (Attack Of The Show) as both Team Unicorn and their cartoon counterparts. Jane Lynch (Glee, Hollywood Game Night) voices the villainous Dark Puba; Alan Tudyk (Suburgatory) voices her sidekick, Chummy Cherub; Tara Strong (The Fairly OddParents) voices Billy, the boy with the ability to summon Team Unicorn; and Kevin Shinick (Mad) is the show’s announcer. ★★★☆☆ New on DVD this week through Soda Pictures, Sean Baker's Starlet (2012) is a sun-drenched La-based drama that's almost as warm and glamorous as its geographical setting. Starring Dree Hemingway (the great-granddaughter of novelist Ernest Hemingway) in her first leading role, Baker's film may contain the same adult iconography of his TV puppet show Greg the Bunny, yet couldn't be further apart in tone and mood. Hemingway stars as Jane, who has recently moved from Jacksonville, Florida, to enhance her career within the flourishing 'adult entertainment' industry. On arrival, she rents a room from her friend and work colleague Gracie (Liz Beebe).

New English Language One of the best films of 2012 that very few people saw was Starlet (Music Box Films), starring Dree Hemingway (daughter of Mariel) as a struggling actress in the San Fernando Valley who forms an unlikely friendship with 85-year-old widow Sadie (Besedka Johnson, in her one and only film role; she passed away earlier this year). Writer-director Sean Baker is perhaps best known as the creator of TV’s Greg the Bunny, but as a filmmaker (Prince of Broadway, Take Out), he’s proven himself a masterful storyteller of the lives of people on the fringe of society. Starlet won a very deserved Independent Spirit Award for its extraordinary ensemble cast. Also available: Upstream Color (Cinedigm), the haunting and perplexing sophomore film from writer-director...

Under the pact, Lloyd will continue as executive producer on the upcoming final season of the studio’s CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, on which he has been since Season 1, and will join another 20th comedy series the following season, ABC’s Modern Family. No matter the scale of the production, American cinema largely reflects the conditions of a society that still has a hard time exploring its diversity. To put it simply: A lot of movies are made by white guys and revolve around white guys. American filmmaker Sean Baker is a white guy, but the four features he has written and directed over the last decade delve far deeper into the crevices of a country that contains many more stories beyond the market standard. Baker maintains a firm grasp of genre -- as his other career, creating the dopey comedy shows "Greg the Bunny" and "Warren the Ape" prove -- but applies it to unorthodox ends. While both his scrappy first feature, the college romp "Four Letter Words," and his latest effort, "Starlet" (which opens in limited release this Friday), revolve around archetypes of American youth, these familiar access points provide fluid...

Music Box Films has acquired all North American rights to Sean Baker’s “Starlet,” which had its premiere in competition at the SXSW Film Festival in March. Besedka Johnson, the 85-year old actress who plays the elderly woman, was given a special prize at SXSW for her performance. “Although we didn’t make the connections until after we saw ‘Starlet,’ we’ve enjoyed everything Sean Baker has done from ‘Greg the Bunny’ through ‘Prince of Broadway,’ so in retrospect it’s not surprising we fell for ‘Starlet’,” said Music Box managing director Ed Arentz. “As we branch out into American independent releases it’s exciting to be...

I know this probably seems like bad news, but give me a few minutes and I’ll explain why it may not be; Variety reports that Mike Mitchell has signed on to direct Jitters, an action film aimed at the lucrative family audience, for Paramount. Mitchell’s last effort was last year’s Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked for Fox.
Details on the project are light, which I’m sure absolutely thrills you, but Jitters is being described as “being in the same vein as Gremlins“. And while that is intriguing, bear in mind it’s 2012 and family movies have all but become watered down and somewhat insulting. (Whoa, I feel like I’ve said that before about something.)
So Mitchell is responsible for not only Chipwrecked, but for Surviving Christmas and Shrek Forever After. Those three movies alone probably don’t inspire any confidence, but I counter with this:...

More Muppets News, Seriously
Rumors abound that NBC are partnering with The Jim Henson Company to develop a brand new sitcom involving puppets. If that statement didn’t manage to bring a smile to your face, then you’re closer to death the Statler and Waldorf.
Deadline are reporting that these two television behemoths are joining forces to create The New Nabors, “ a comedy about a human family and the repercussions they encounter living next door to a family of puppets.” Just the presence of that solitary sentence is enough to make the world seem like a better place.
The show is to be developed by 30 Rock executive producer John Riggi, a show which has clearly been influenced by the stringed icons, and is the first NBC project to star a puppet since 1990, when Alf sadly left our screens.

[1] The upcoming film The Muppets unfolds around a world that's moved on and forgotten all about the once-famous gang -- but between that film, the documentary Being Elmo, and the enduring popularity of Sesame Street's parodies, it's clear that puppets in the real world are actually coming back in a big way. The latest company to jump on the trend is NBC, which has just closed a deal on a human-puppet hybrid script from the Jim Henson Co. called The New Nabors. While it won't feature Kermit and his pals, with the Jim Henson Co. on board it seems like a project worth keeping an eye on all the same. More details after the jump. Deadline [2] reports that John Hoffman (Afterlife) and John Riggi (30 Rock) are writing the script for The New Nabors, as well as executive producing with the Jim Henson Co.'s Alex Rockwell and Jim Henson's daughter Lisa Henson.

If you had any doubt that Hollywood was reliant on big movie franchises, let them be eradicated right about now...
As has long been the case, sequels are a reliable way of making plenty of cash from recognisable names. They've been a part of the Hollywood filmmaking process for decades, and as this list of 95 sequels currently in the works proves, will continue to be so for as long as we stump up the cash to go and see them.
We've been doing this list annually for a couple of years now, and this year's collection is, perhaps unsurprising, the longest round-up of upcoming sequels that we've done. Still, given that there are nearly a hundred sequels listed below, we're a little sad to see that Hollywood's people in suits couldn't find room for a belated return to Mac And Me...

While it's admirable that Whoopi Goldberg and Jodie Foster are standing by fallen star Mel Gibson on a personal level, it's going to take more than a Foster-directed, Kyle Killen-written ("Lonestar") movie about a depressed man who walks around with a beaver puppet on his hand to win us back over to his side.
That said, we do have to admit that the poster for "The Beaver," which ComingSoon snapped a pic of at the American Film Market, is rather charming.
Wisely, Gibson himself is largely obscured except for his trademark baby blues while a puppet beaver dominates the frame. With his other hand, Gibson offers up a note, reading: "Hello. This person is under the care of a prescription puppet. Please, treat him as you normally would, but address yourself to the puppet."
Oh, and under no circumstances make direct eye contact with the crazy man.

Muppets have been all over the blogosphere lately as buzz builds for Jason Segel’s The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made and Sesame Street draw adults back in with sharp True Blood and the Old Spice parodies. Audiences can’t get enough of these lovable yet subversive balls of fluff. So it makes sense that Happy Time Murders has finally found a backer.
The puppet-infused noir has been in development over at Jim Henson Co. since 2008, when Todd Berger (The Scenesters) first sold his spec script. Sadly, the Muppets had fallen out of fashion, and Jim Henson Co. had trouble finding backers for the project. But with Muppet mania on the rise again, Lionsgate bought the project, which has Brian Henson (son of Jim and director of Muppet Treasure Island and The Muppet Christmas Carol) attached to direct. How many people out there watched "Angel" and love the "Smile Time" episode? The simple truth is the puppets can be funny and deadly, especially when pertaining to the horror genre and Lionsgate is betting on shedding some stuffing with their latest flick!
According to The Hollywood Reporter Happytime Murders, a comedy thriller written by Todd Berger and to be directed by Brian Henson (son of Jim Henson).
Happytime takes place in a world where humans and puppets coexist, with the puppets viewed as second-class citizens. When the puppet cast of 1980s children's TV show "The Happytime Gang" begins to get murdered one by one, a disgraced Lapd detective-turned-private eye puppet -- with a drinking problem, no less -- takes the case with his former human partner. Think Avenue Q meets L.A. Confidential. Hopefully more "Greg the Bunny".
Berger wrote the script from a story he wrote with Dee Austin Robertson.

It would appear Sean Baker is equally comfortable with the real and the surreal. On TV, he's one of the perpetrators of the satirical puppet show, Greg the Bunny. In the cinema though, he's far more grounded, employing a documentary- like shooting style and recruiting a largely amateur cast to tell stories of New York populations that are too often ignored elsewhere. Previously, he looked into the arduous life of a restaurant delivery guy in Take Out, now, with Prince of Broadway, he's casting light on the people who hawk counterfeit fashion to the gullible and the not-so-gullible, and how that market affects their ability to discern truth from fiction. For Lucky (newcomer Prince Adu), it's a crucial distinction: Early in the film, a former girlfriend of his (Kat Sanchez) shows up, shoves a baby in his arms, tells him the...

It doesn't hurt to have someone like Oprah or Tyler Perry on your side when you're promoting your independent film. Just ask Lee Daniels, the Oscar-nominated producer/director of "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire," which went from unexpected Sundance buzz film to Academy Award contender over the course of a year. Oprah and Perry lent their names and their considerable sway to help promote the film -- "it had an enormous impact," Daniels says.
And now he's returning the favor by championing and helping to get the word out on "Prince of Broadway," a microbudget indie written and directed by "Greg the Bunny" co-creator Sean Baker and featuring a largely nonprofessional cast, set to open next Friday. "Though I'm not Oprah Winfrey, I know that I have an audience, because of the blessings that I've had, a following of people who'll go see a Lee Daniels independent film,...

With that line, Josh Sussman went from being a one-time guest star on Glee without a speaking role... to a recurring character with the hilarious running gag of stalking Rachel Berry (hey, we can't blame the guy!).
In an interview with TV Fanatic, the man with the most famous afro in Hollywood talked excitedly about season two of the show, while also explaining his role on an underrated MTV hit. Read on for excerpts...
Do you have the best hair in Hollywood?
I'm not sure if I'd go that far, but a lot of people wanna touch it when they meet me. Growing up, it wasn't as froey as it is now, so it's sort of taken on a life of its own.
Would you ever challenge Justin Bieber to a hair-off?
[Laughs.] I'm not gonna do that. He has a very loyal following, with that intense Bieber Fever.

In tonight’s episode of Warren The Ape (MTV, 10:30 p.m. Et), the D-list actor and fabricated American reaches out to his old Greg the Bunny costar Seth Green for cash — at the worst possible time. Watch the clip below. Perhaps if Warren had waited until Saturday, after Green’s Robot Chicken had finally won the Emmy for Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program, he would’ve had better luck.
As for Warren’s answers to the questions submitted for him last week on PopWatch:
Q: Warren, how can you live with yourself?!? — Jose
A: “Practice,” Warren says. “I’ve been doing it all my life.

Getting a little less attention than glossier fare like "The Avengers" and "Cowboys & Aliens" in the four-day firestorm of Comic-Con unveilings the past weekend was the announcement that "A Contract With God" was headed to the big screen, indie-style.
Will Eisner's masterpiece, which consists of four semi-autobiographical short stories set in the Bronx and its environs in the 1930s, is considered a landmark of the form. It's one of the main texts, along with "Watchmen" and "Maus," that gets brought up by people making the case for the potential of comic books and graphic novels as art forms.
Each of the four parts of "A Contract With God" will be handled, anthology-style, by one of four up-and-coming indie filmmakers. The dream team and the segments they'll each handle:

For Sasha Alexander, film affords more opportunities for acting risks than episodic TV. The former provides a single dose of a self-contained universe, whereas with recurring roles on the small screen, one "has to create a three-dimensional character that audiences are going to want to watch each week. You don't have a beginning, middle, and end. You may have some basic idea where the character is going and you may not." Backstories emerge sporadically, if at all, she adds: "You're leaving little crumbs for the audience. It can be frustrating." Alexander knows something about episodic TV, having appeared on "NCIS," "Dawson's Creek," and "Presidio Med." She is currently tackling medical examiner Maura Isles on "Rizzoli & Isles," a new TNT police drama based on the novels of Tess Gerritsen and co-starring Angie Harmon as blue-collar detective Jane Rizzoli. By contrast, Isles has a wealthy family and a posh education. "I like...

MTV's latest star "Warren The Ape" is not falling off his crazy designer shoes at Heathrow, nor is he wearing a Scram bracelet, at the moment. He is rumored to have stolen Dr. Drew's prescription pad and has allegedly written himself some Norco and Vicodin script, with a side of Oxy. These are unsubstantiated allegations. Such is the life of a struggling D Listed primate who suffers in the shadows of Greg the Bunny and even the elderly Lamb Chop, to an extent. The Bunny may be gone but long live the Ape.
Though Greg The Bunny is no longer on the air, its legacy lives on with the imminent arrival of spin-off show Warren The Ape. Here's the word on that:

Could the opportunity of his own reality show be just what Warren needs to get back on top?
