The “Survivor: Island of the Idols” finale is scheduled for next week, which meant the seven castaways still in the running to win the $1 million prize had everything on the line heading into Wednesday’s episode. On paper both Dean Kowalski and Elaine Stott seemed outnumbered as they came from the original Lairo tribe, compared to the other five original Vokai members Lauren Beck, Janet Carbin, Noura Salman, Tommy Sheehan and Dan Spilo. However, there was a crack in the alliance as Noura had previously contemplated turning on Tommy. According to Gold Derby’s racetrack odds, Lauren and Noura were most in danger of being sent to the jury house in this week’s pre-finale episode. So how’d it all play out?

For the 39th season of “Survivor,” former winners Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine have returned to serve as expert mentors for the new castaways. But even though they’re not eligible to win the $1 million prize, Boston Rob (winner of “Redemption Island”) and Queen Sandra (winner of “Pearl Islands” and “Heroes vs. Villains”) are still having to survive the elements on the Island of the Idols. For Sandra, that comes with a physical toll in the form of “huge blisters” on her hands. In CBS’s “Survivor” deleted scene above, she tries to fist-bump Rob, but he refuses out of fear of getting infected himself.

Jamal Shipman, the third member of the “Survivor: Island of the Idols” jury, was voted out of the game after surviving on a deserted island for 24 days with little food or water. Upon visiting the jury house, this 33-year-old admissions counselor got to order anything he wanted off of the food menu and he chose … rice?! “I know, why would you get fried rice when you just came off of ‘Survivor,’ but the chicken fried rice sounds really good,” he stated. “I do get recognized a lot,” Christian Hubicki confesses to Gold Derby when we proclaim him to be the face of “Survivor: David vs. Goliath” on the morning after he was eliminated. “I try to keep the changes as small and as manageable as possible,” he continues. “I started my new job. I’m teaching a class. I don’t talk about ‘Survivor’ during the class. I just kind of do my business. I try to sort of treat it like it’s normal.” Listen to our exit interview above.

Don't bother going to your mind palace to see if you can remember who Butch Gilzean is from DC's comics, or searching Wikipedia. He's a new character created for Fox's Gotham, and Deadline is reporting Drew Powell will play him in the upcoming series. Powell is probably best known for starring in television's Ponderosa, and his guest roles in Malcolm in the Middle, Leverage, True Blood and Bones. He also appeared in Southland with Ben McKenzie, who will...

Deadline report that Drew Powell (Ponderosa, Malcolm In The Middle) has been cast in a "guest starring/recurring role" in Fox‘s Batman prequel series, Gotham. Apparently he'll be playing Butch Gilzean - a new character created for the show, and not an established DC Comics villain. According to the site Gilzean is "the deceptively clever and ambitious second-in-command to sadistic gangster boss Fish Mooney". It's always possible this guy will be an amalgamation of other lesser known characters, or have some of their attributes. Thoughts?...
