Emmy and Golden Globe winner Kyra Sedgwick has partnered with Meredith Bagby and Valerie Stadler to launch Big Swing Productions, which has a number of film and television projects in the works. According to the trio, Big Swing is “committed to celebrating new heroes and amplifying bold voices, focusing on inclusive stories with heart and purpose.” according to the trio.

Cynthia Nixon will star in HDNet Films' One Last Thing ..., in which she'll play a mother whose son (Michael Angarano) is dealing with a terminal illness. Alex Steyermark, who most recently directed Prey for Rock & Roll, will helm the film from a screenplay by Barry Stringfellow. HDNet Films co-presidents Jason Kliot and Joana Vicente will produce the film along with Susan Stover. Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban, who head 2929 Entertainment, the parent company of HDNet Films, will executive produce. Last Thing involves an organization that grants last wishes to dying children, which is surprised when Nixon's son makes an unconventional request on national TV.

Jeff Daniels and Kip Pardue have joined Sigourney Weaver and Emile Hirsch in the indie Imaginary Heroes for writer-turned-director Dan Harris. Production is scheduled to start Aug. 14 in New Jersey. The darkly comic drama revolves around the secrets and lies of American families. It tells the story of a four-member family and how they deal with the suicide of the eldest son, an accomplished swimmer idolized by the community and his parents as being the "perfect boy" (Pardue). Daniels will star as the father, with Weaver playing the mother and Hirsch the youngest son. Harris is directing from his own original screenplay. Producers on the project include Signature's Moshe and Illana Diamant (Tristan & Isolde), Art Linson (Spartan), Gina Resnick (Prey for Rock and Roll) and Denise Shaw (Bed of Roses). William Morris Independent packaged the indie project and is repping the distribution rights for the film. Daniels is repped by ICM. Pardue, who is in Ireland filming Whiter Shade of Pale opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt, is repped by CAA and the Untitled Entertainment/Parseghian/Planco management outfit.
Marc Blucas has landed the coveted male lead role opposite Katie Holmes in Regency Enterprises' romantic comedy First Daughter for helmer Forest Whitaker and producer John Davis. Shooting is scheduled to start in mid-May. Blucas, who just entered negotiations for the project, will segue into it after he wraps shooting the Walt Disney Co.'s The Alamo this week. First Daughter will see Holmes star as the daughter of the U.S. president who goes to college and falls into a fairy tale romance with a dashing graduate student (Blucas) only to find that her prince turns out to have a secret agenda. Along with Davis, Davis Entertainment president Wyck Godfrey is producing. At Regency, the project is being overseen by senior vp production Kara Francis for Regency president Sanford Panitch. Jessica Bendinger (The Truth About Charlie) wrote the most recent draft of the script. Regency is fully financing. Blucas, repped by Endeavor and Handprint Entertainment and attorney Steve Warren, next stars in the features I Capture the Castle and Prey for Rock & Roll. Past projects include The Sunshine State and We Were Soldiers.

Indie distributor MAC Releasing has snapped up North American distribution rights to Alex Steyermark's directorial debut Prey for Rock and Roll, starring Gina Gershon. Rock also stars Drea De Matteo, Lori Petty, Shelly Cole, Marc Blucas and Ivan Martin in the story of a contemporary Los Angeles all-girl punk band -- led by Gershon's character -- struggling to make it while personal forces threaten to tear them apart. Gershon sings all of her own songs live in the rock-heavy film and is planning to go on a club tour this year performing original music from the film live. MAC, in association with Samy Boy Pictures, is scheduling a late summer/early fall 2003 platform release.
