A few months back, rumors circulated about Marvel Studios working on the ‘Midnight Sons’ project, with indications that the forthcoming ‘Blade’ reboot might connect to it.
The project reportedly features characters distinct from those in The Avengers lineup, with suggestions that Doctor Strange might not join the team.
Following a string of disappointing projects, Marvel Studios has adjusted its focus somewhat. Brad Winderbaum acknowledged that not all projects in development will see the light of day, leading many to speculate that ‘Midnight Sons’ might meet this fate. However, according to MyTimeToShineHello, the project remains active, with Fede Álvarez reportedly being considered for the director’s chair.

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.
Although Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is focused on a season-long quest for ancient secrets from before the dawn of history, there have also been a few episodes that have been almost standalone in structure. From the time loop in “Face the Strange” to the return of the Iss Enterprise in “Mirrors,” Discovery’s final seasons has episodic stories, woven into the bigger arc. And, out of all of season 5, episode 6, “Whistlespeak,” is probably the most standalone of the bunch.
In order to retrieve the latest clue to the Progenitor tech, the USS Discovery jumps to the planet Halem’no, a pre-warp planet. Here, Burnham and Tilly have to go undercover to not only find the clue, but also, repair some concealed technology. Along the way, Discovery pays homage to The Original Series, the prequel series Enterprise, and beyond. Here are the biggest Star Trek...

Doctor Strange Director Reflects On Why Joaquin Phoenix Did Not Get The Marvel Role( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Benedict Cumberbatch is an accomplished actor whose fame increased after starring as Doctor Strange in the MCU. Things would have been different if Joaquin Phoenix had donned the Cloak of Levitation. Director Scott Derrickson has recently opened up on why Phoenix did not land the Marvel role. Phoenix found his place in the DC Universe and even won an Oscar for his performance as the twisted villain, Joker.
Derrickson was associated with the Doctor Strange movie, released in 2016. The film was made on a reported budget of $165 million and earned a staggering $677.8 million globally. The movie featured an ensemble of cast members, including Mads Mikkelson, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Doctor Strange has become one of the most recognizable and significant characters in the MCU. Although his beginnings were more modest compared to recent releases, he has emerged as a pivotal figure and will play a significant role in the future of the MCU.
While many fans now see Benedict Cumberbatch as the ideal Doctor Strange, it wasn’t always that way. Originally, the role was intended for Joaquin Phoenix. However, a single decision changed the direction of the MCU. Ultimately, casting Cumberbatch was deemed essential for the success of “Doctor Strange” at the box office.
In a recent interview with Slash Film, Scott Derrickson, the director of the origin movie, explained how Marvel Studios opted to forgo a summer release to secure the popular actor. The studio agreed to the plan, and it ultimately proved to be a wise decision.

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has said that he’s open to the idea of a Pink Floyd hologram show, à la Abba Voyage, but only under a “series of very, very difficult and onerous conditions.”
The comments came in a new interview with Uncut, ahead of Gilmour’s first new album in nearly a decade, Luck and Strange (due on September 6th). Revealing that he and his wife, Polly Samson, had been invited to watch the Abba Voyage show, the guitarist explained that he wasn’t quite blown away with the visuals of the hologram format, but appreciated the music.
“If you were a determined Abba fan, you might enjoy it,” he said (per NME). “I thought the images of them were sort of Ok, but they weren’t ever going to convince me it was real. If you’re down the sort of mosh pit end of the...

The MCU family recently lost a shining star in the form of regular collaborator Ray Chan. Chan had worked on multiple films and series in the MCU as the supervising art director and production designer. His works included films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame among others.
Outside of the MCU, Chan reportedly worked as a supervising art director, production designer, and art director on films such as Knight and Day, Blood Diamond, National Treasure, and Children of Men. The art director reportedly also served as a production designer for the upcoming Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer dropped yesterday, and it was nearly impossible to catch all the references and easter eggs in one viewing. The trailer revealed plenty of cameos to add to our list, and plenty of notable “locations.” Such as presumably Strange’s portal, and Cassandra Nova using Ant-Man’s giant head as her headquarters.
But except for funny (and awesome) easter eggs, we noticed something that filled us with hope, a brief nod that Iron Man might make an appearance in this movie, which is judging by everything so far, truly an MCU savior.
At one point in the movie Red Skull’s Car from ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ can be seen, but sporting one significant change it has an Iron Man hood ornament, which prompted fans to conclude that Iron Man might be making a return.

The ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer was released yesterday, and it was packed with references and Easter eggs that were easy to miss in one viewing. The trailer showed numerous cameos and interesting locations, like what seems to be Strange’s portal and Cassandra Nova’s headquarters inside Ant-Man’s giant head.
Among the funny and awesome Easter eggs, we spotted something that gave us hope: a brief hint that Iron Man might appear in the movie. Considering everything we’ve seen so far, this would truly be a significant moment for the MCU.
In one scene of the movie, Red Skull’s car from ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ is visible, but with a notable alteration: it now features an Iron Man hood ornament. This detail led fans to speculate that Iron Man could be coming back.

A new trailer for the Deadpool threequel, Deadpool & Wolverine, has just dropped! And the hype meter has just crossed a new level! Fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of this film, even more so as leaks began popping up all over the internet since last year. Though several heroes and villains are rumored to be making an appearance in the movie, the recent trailer teases the arrival of Doctor Strange.
A still from Deadpool and Wolverine
However, if there’s something we know about Marvel, is that when it comes to their most hyped-up projects, their trailers are not always 100% faithful. There has been some tweaking done in the past before, and there’s a possibility it might be happening again. This time, in the case of The Sorcerer Supreme.

When it comes to protecting his IPs, Kevin Feige is no less than a clucking mother hen, and Captain America might just be the biggest egg in the basket. After Chris Evans’ swan song moment in Avengers: Endgame, the IP became as invaluable as first-edition art – treasured enough to be left as is but popular enough to be replicated.

After all, Captain America was one of the founding fathers of the MCU alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, and putting on the suit for the sake of gratuitous entertainment despite finding closure for his arc would be cruel and uncalled for.

As Star Trek is almost 60 years old, the latest series from this iconic Sci-Fi series may be the most groundbreaking since the original series.
The refreshing and entertaining storyline will please both newer fans of Star Trek and even the fans of the original Star Trek series that aired back in 1966.
The first season of Star Trek Strange New Worlds first premiered on the fifth of May 2022. It is actually a sequel to the slightly controversial Discovery series that didn't follow some of the known or established lore in the Star Trek universe.

One of the most interesting upcoming MCU projects is certainly ‘Marvel Zombies.’ Not much is known regarding the plot of the series except for the fact that it won’t be a direct adaptation of the famous comic storyline, but we can assume that it’s going to have plenty of gore and action sequences.

The multiversal saga has been a mixed bag for the MCU so far. And with Jonathan Majors being let go, it can’t be said for certain what the future holds for this chapter, which was being built around the character of Kang. However, it seems Marvel might not be shifting away from the Conqueror just yet, as new rumors suggest Kang might play a major part in the potential Doctor Strange 3.
While things have been quiet on the MCU’s part on Doctor Strange 3, per new rumors, the threequel will see Charlize Theron’s Clea teaming up with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Strange.

Benedict Cumberbatch has played many iconic characters in his career. Be it his breakthrough role of playing Sherlock Holmes in BBC’s Sherlock or voicing Smaug in The Hobbit franchise, Cumberbatch has brought his absolute best to each role. He has been playing the role of Doctor Strange in the MCU since 2016 and has been featured as the character in multiple films.
However, the Sorcerer Supreme was not the first role that he was offered in the Marvel franchise. However, he chose to wait it out instead.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was quite a polarising film. It brought in iconic characters from Marvel Comics, and had one of the most highly anticipated fights in the MCU; Doctor Strange vs. Scarlet Witch.
Despite this, there were also many things that it did not get right. The unfortunate CGI, poor character development, and questionable pacing of the film made fans especially critical of it when giving their thoughts.

Doctor Strange 3 Theory Reveals True Location of Baron Mordo, Why He Wasn’t in Multiverse of Madness
Doctor Strange (2016) introduced us to Baron Mordo, a sorcerer who was originally loyal to the Ancient One, but decided to turn away from her once he realized that she drew power from the Dark Dimension, the same as the antagonists of the film, Kaecilius. The film closes out with Mordo concluding that there are too many sorcerers, which causes him to begin hunting anyone and everyone who has the power to channel magic.

Many godlike Avengers, including Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Hulk, and Thor, are mentioned when fans argue over who is the most powerful character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sure, upon examining the physical attributes, fans may discover that the answer to this question is not as simple as they initially believed. There are other abilities besides brute force, magic, and energy blasts that can provide a hero with an edge during battle.
Having said that, Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man in the MCU, is a superhero who, with the use of Pym Particles, can shrink to the size of an ant while retaining his normal strength and durability. This means that he can outmaneuver his rivals and deliver punches with the force of a full-sized man. Not to mention, his ability to change size gives him an extra edge in battle.

Per rumors, it seems the Industry giant is looking to incorporate a new team of superheroes into the mix, involving characters with supernatural abilities, but excluding one prominent character.
As per scooper Daniel Richtman, the MCU is looking to pass on Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange for the reported Midnight Sons film, despite the character’s rich history with the faction.

Up Front & Letters
Dak uses some of the Up Front space in this issue to publish more letters. It’s all to do with this being the end of Ci’s first year and everyone involved is in a mood to celebrate. The letters are basically singing the praises of a job well done and it showcases how well it is selling across the country. There is nothing to write home about in Up Front. Only more of Dak highlighting a good year and rightfully so. He points out how most of not all of the comics featured in Ci have been hits with the fans. On a personal level, #6 of Comics Interview was a big deal because of fans wanting to know about the fallout from the Jla/Avengers incident. East Coast distribution sold out completely. All the good stuff is in the usual letters pages at the back.

As we have mentioned many times before, and particularly after the restrictions placed in the movie industry internationally due to Covid, short filmmaking has been experiencing a surge in all aspects, with the quantity increasing as much as the quality, to the point that, now, these films can actually be better than their feature counterparts. In Asia in particular, the 2023 has been utterly impressive in that regard, with the short titles of intense quality coming one after the other. 25 of those we collected in this particular list, which we feel is one of the most competitive and overall impressive among the plethora we publish every year.
Without further ado, here are the best Asian Short Films of 2023, in reverse order, although the order, particularly in the first 10, could easily be completely different. Some may have may have premiered in 2022, but since they mostly circulated in 2023, we decided to include them.

The second season of What If? has been dropped by Marvel Studios in a year that has seen both the rise and fall of the MCU. The final Guardians of the Galaxy and the second season of Loki were absolute triumphs, while the rest was pretty much a let down. I’m not even going to go into the Jonathan Major fiasco, but that must have hurt the MCU, and the future of this thing doesn’t look too bright. Considering all these, it was essential for Marvel to wrap up this year strong, and the good news is that What If? has been quite successful in doing that. With the anthology format, it was a given that some of the episodes would not be that good, while others might just be extraordinary. And that’s exactly how it went. We’re going to rank the new batch of episodes...

Timothée Chalamet is singing, dancing and smiling up a storm in :a[Wonka]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/wonka/' }, but next March he'll be back in more serious, warrior-like form as Dune: Part Two arrives. A new trailer for Denis Villeneuve's second stab at Frank Herbert's sand-filled tale of warring families and freedom fighters is online and you can see it below.
We catch up with Chalamet's Paul Atreides and Rebecca Ferguson’s Lady Jessica in the desert among Zendaya’s Chani and the native Fremen people, where war is brewing. Paul is still — understandably — pissed about the murder of his father, Oscar Isaac’s Duke Leto Atreides, and the fearsome Harkonnen forces need taking down several pegs. But, Paul is also having more Spice-fuelled visions that hint at a destiny he doesn’t want to embody (hints of Doctor Strange's Endgame predictions here...

Marrakech – Receiving a career achievement award at this year’s Marrakech International Film Festival (which ended this past weekend), Mads Mikkelsen would be the first to acknowledge that had he been born a girl, his acting career might not have been half as successful.

We can admit it now. The Marvels bombed.
Marvel has had some misfires before, but they usually happened only on the critical end. Audiences still rushed to see panned flicks like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Thor: Love & Thunder. But with The Marvels, audiences and critics came together to express their dissatisfaction. No one thing explains the problems. Like its predecessor Captain Marvel, bad faith reviews flooded the internet with people mad about lady superheroes, but numerous, and legitimate, other culprits led to the downfall: from superhero fatigue to a nonsense story combined with obnoxious editing, to separation from the larger shared universe.
In short, The Marvels comes at a key point in the MCU experiment, one whose failures and successes illuminate the way forward for the company. But rest assured, there is a way forward, and we have a few of our own silly ideas about how to navigate that.

Zakiya Dalila Harris’ novel “The Other Black Girl” has hit the small screen in ten episodes filled with songs that support the story’s underlying message of compromising identity and Blackness in a majority-white workplace. Developed by Harris and Rashida Jones, who contributed the intro montage, to Episode 7 set to Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love,” the series crosses multiple genres from comedy to thriller and provides social commentary on how minority Poc employees compromise and navigate the social system of corporate America.
Set to Sza, TLC, Busta Rhymes, H.E.R., Janelle Monae and more, many scenes in the show become even stronger with the songs in the background. Co-showrunners Gus Hickey and Jordan Reddout left the ending open for a potential second season. The suspense and humor go hand in hand with the soundtrack for “The Other Black Girl.”

Deadpool is the perfect vessel for all kinds of crossovers and fan service. The original comic barely even acknowledged the fourth wall, as the titular character would constantly reference other Marvel characters while being completely self-aware of his existence within the paneled boxes. When Deadpool finally came to the movies, there were jokes abound with Hugh Jackman jabs and even some appearances of popular X-Men characters. Although the most anticipated element of Deadpool 3 is the return of Jackman as Logan, Disney’s acquirement of Fox and all the Marvel characters also opens doors for many, many more possibilities.
In the usual internet fashion, rumors caught fire and there have been talks of more Fox crossover characters played by their past actors. The animated streaming series ‘What If…?’ is one of the most unique and most interesting MCU projects. Not only because of the fact that it was the first animated piece of MCU content but also because everything that happens in this series is non-canonical events that show what would happen if some key moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe had played out differently.
The series’s first season featured nine episodes, some of which were amazing and some were… not. The series features the voice talent of Jeffrey Wright as the Watcher, and various MCU actors have returned to voice their respective characters, with a few exceptions, where new actors were hired to replace actors from live action.
The first season dealt with many key events from the Infinity Saga, and the second one will continue to do so, but it will also dip fingers into the ongoing Multiverse Saga.

Just when we as viewers were thinking that it would be tough for My Adventures With Superman to top the brilliant sixth episode, which portrayed marginalized characters like Monsieur Mallah and Brain in a sympathetic light, the seventh episode pushed the limits by introducing the multiverse in a brilliant manner. In the sixth episode, Clark came clean to Jimmy and Lois about his secret identity as Superman, and the bond between the three friends grew stronger than ever. As the trio bids farewell to Mallah and Brain, Clark learns about the possibility of his connection with the covert operations spearheaded by the mysterious general. In Episode 7, Kiss Kiss Fall In Portal, the story takes a detour from the central narrative, and we explore the larger DC multiverse with the help of one of Superman’s classic enemies.

The band began work on End of World in 2018, but they really experienced a “massive explosion of ideas” after the pandemic. When they announced the record back in April, the news followed the recent passing of Lydon’s wife, Nora Forster. The album cut “Hawaii” was written for her.
The follow-up to the 2015 release What the World Needs Now…, End of World also features the singles “Penge” and “Car Chase.” Next month, Public Image Ltd. will embark on a tour of the UK and Europe, and tickets are on sale here.
Earlier this summer, Lydon became the latest artist to warn us that AI could soon pose a threat to society as we know it. “What or where is the moral code?...

Despite two Hollywood unions going on strike, HBO proceeded to film Season 2 of its popular series “The House of the Dragon.”

This happened because the “Game of Thrones” prequel scripts were finished prior to the Writers Guild of America’s strike starting on May 2. And unlike SAG-AFTRA, which is now on strike, the performers in the TV show are members of a British actors union.
The explanations were provided by “A Song of Ice and Fire” author George R.R. Martin, who just updated his blog, “Not a Blog“, with information regarding the TV adaptation. He was open and honest about his thoughts on the “long and bitter” labour strikes that are presently causing the film and television industries to suffer.
“Honestly, I was shocked to hear that,” Martin wrote on his blog.

Roger Waters, would rather re-record old Pink Floyd music than reunite with the band’s surviving members for a new tour. Today, he’s previewing (Roger’s Version) with the album’s lead single, his version of “Money.”
Waters produced the LP, titled The Dark Side of the Moon Redux along with Gus Seyffert, and recorded the tracks with a studio band comprising Seyffert, Joey Waronker, Jonathan Wilson, Johnny Shepherd, and Jon Carin. Notably, the other members of Pink Floyd who helped to create the original, including David Gilmour and Nick Mason, do not appear on the recordings.
