Over his remarkable career on the small screen, Beau Bridges has garnered 16 Emmy Award nominations, including three wins. This year, with his recurring role on “Homeland,” Bridges is well-positioned to add a 17th nomination to his awards resume, this time in Best Guest Drama Actor.
Bridges, portraying Vice President Ralph Warner, appeared in four episodes of the Showtime series this season: “Andante”; “Clarity”; “All In”; and the season finale, “Paean to the People.” Warner, who is on unsteady terms with his boss, the increasingly unpopular President Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel), finds himself lobbied by Senator Sam Paley (Dylan Baker), an opponent of Keane’s, to help invoke the 25th Amendment to remove her from office. Warner indeed relieves a flabbergasted Keane of her duties but their antipathy, and Warner’s alliance with Paley, prove short-lived.

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. This is the first part of the weekend monster update, with more news & stuff coming in the next couple of days.
I got my Grimms confused in yesterday's post as it turns out. Tonight's episode won't be "Let Your Hair Down," but "The Three Bad Wolves." Rapunzel doesn't show up until next week.
Nick (David Giuntoli) is called to a suspected arson case, which exposes a longstanding family feud that brings Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) face-to-face with characters from his troubled past. While Monroe wrestles with restraining his wild side, it’s up to Nick to keep everything from going up in flames. Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Sasha Roiz and Reggie Lee also star. There are a few sneak peeks at THR and Dread Central. Spoiler TV has the promotional stills. Here is the teaser:
Yesterday's excellent "Danse Macabre," which did well in the ratings, is available on NBC.com.

Let's start the weekly round-up with Grimm.
Grimm's ratings dropped a little this week, but the show still won the 18-49 demo in its timeslot, finishing ahead of CSI: NY, Fringe and Supernatural, and rising by a full frakking ratings point (1.8) after Chuck (0.8). Wake up, Chuck.
Hitfix visited the set in Portland recently and posted a lengthy report. Here is a snippet:
Sasha Roiz on how his character will develop later in the series: "I’m not a Grimm descendent, but I'm a descendent of a long line that dates back just as Grimm does and we have a bit of a history and a past, so my line is a royal line and that will slowly unfold throughout the series."Collider has a longer interview with Sasha and Reggie Lee (more at the link):
It’s nice to see your character – like the main character – has the duality.

Exclusive: Army Wives star Catherine Bell is set to headline the TNT movie Good Morning, Killer, an adaptation of April Smith's novel. The thriller follows FBI Special Agent Ana Gray (Bell) as she hunts for a kidnapper. It is the latest entry in the network's recently announced new TNT Tuesday Night Mystery movie franchise slated to launch in November that will feature six contemporary crime dramas, from true-crime stories to fictional mysteries. And I have heard that at least some some of the movies, including Good Morning, Killer, are being eyed as potential backdoor pilots that could spawn TV series as the actors deals for them include series options. The contracts of the cast members of Army Wives, including Bell, are up after the upcoming sixth season. Smith adapted her book to the small screen. She also is executive producing the movie with Frank von Zerneck (We Were the Mulvaneys). Bell,...

CBS network recently gave the green light go-ahead to four hour-long dramas and two comedies for the 2010 season. It isn’t clear yet if everything will start this fall or if some shows may be mid season replacements, as the great “Eye” will have to do some reshuffling of the deck with its schedule. Hawaii Five-o (TV) starring the fan-favorite Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Cahn and Daniel Dae Kim (formally of Lost (TV)) was the sure-bet. This remake of the 1970s drama is produced by Fringe (TV)’s dynamic duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. You can bet with the casting and the location shots, this show will be overflowing with "pretty." Next up to bat will be Defenders (TV), a legal drama about some hot-shot Las Vegas defense attorneys, starring Jim Belushi and Jerry O'Connell. The pilot was penned by Niels Mueller and Kevin Kennedy, and will have executive...

Alan Rickman and Mos Def have been tapped to topline Something the Lord Made, an original movie for HBO about the true story of heart surgery pioneers Alfred Blalock and Vivien Thomas, a white surgeon and a black lab technician. Multiple Emmy winner Joseph Sargent has come on board to direct the film, which is still in development. Peter Silverman (Lifetime's We Were the Mulvaneys) penned the script for the project, which has been kicking around for 6 1/2 years. Former producing partners Robert W. Cort and David Madden are executive producing with Julian Krainin. The partnership between Blalock (Rickman) and Thomas (Mos Def) began in 1929 when the then-19-year-old Thomas' dreams to go to college and medical school were dashed when he lost his tuition savings in the October stock market crash and took a job as a lab technician at Vanderbilt University's medical school, working for Blalock, a resident surgeon.

ABC has greenlighted a three-hour biopic about Natalie Wood with Oscar-nominated director Peter Bogdanovich on board to direct and British actress Justine Waddell set to portray the late Hollywood star. The yet-untitled film, which will air during the 2003-04 season, is based on Suzanne Finstads' book Natasha: The Biography of Natalie Wood. Elizabeth Egloff wrote the small-screen adaptation, which is set to start production in the winter in Australia. Gerald W. Abrams (TNT's Nuremberg), Bob Sertner, Frank von Zerneck (We Were the Mulvaneys) and Finstad are executive producing, with Richard Fischoff and Randy Sutter producing. Wood's sister, Lana Wood, will co-produce. The movie will focus on Wood's deep inner conflict between her real self -- Natasha Zakharenko, born to Russian immigrants in San Francisco -- and the glamorous Natalie Wood persona created by her ambitious mother and shaped by the powerful studio system.
