About fourteen months ago, we heard that AMC was developing a third TV series based on the works of Anne Rice, adding to the franchise they’ve been building out of the Vampire Chronicles novels and the Mayfair Witch books written by Rice. Now Variety reports that the show – which is going by the working title of Anne Rice’s The Talamasca – has officially been ordered to series. Episodes are expected to start airing sometime in 2025.
This entry in the franchise that AMC is calling the Anne Rice Immortal Universe will follow a secretive society called the Talamasca that’s responsible for tracking and containing witches, vampires, werewolves and other creatures. Members of the Talamasca have already been introduced in the AMC shows Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire and Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches.

A decade into her solo career, Beyoncé effectively evaded irrelevancy by wresting control of her own narrative. After her 2011 album 4 failed to produce a Top 10 hit—to date, her only album to do so—the singer began dropping albums without any pre-release promotion, sidestepping chart expectations and reimagining the traditional pop album release strategy. Since then, she’s done few interviews and often glides into awards shows donning dark shades and a straight face, shrewdly creating a superstar mystique in the vein of Michael Jackson and Prince.
That approach, thankfully, has been accompanied by some of Beyoncé’s most creative, political, and inspired work to date. Her 2016 visual album Lemonade drew on her personal experiences as a Black woman to comment on feminism and racism in the Me Too and Black Lives Matter era, while its follow-up, 2022’s Renaissance, kept the focus squarely on the music, inspired by and dedicated...

The classic 1955 movie The Night of the Hunter was adapted from Davis Grubb’s same-titled novel, and we’ve learned tonight that a brand new adaptation is now in the works.
THR reports this afternoon that Scott Derrickson will be directing the new take on The Night of the Hunter, with C. Robert Cargill (Sinister) writing.
Derrickson will write the script alongside Cargill, the report adds.
Cargill previews on the platform formerly known as Twitter tonight, “For those unfamiliar, Night of the Hunter was based on a novel that was *Much Darker* than the 1950s would allow. Very excited about this project and thrilled we can finally talk about it.”
The Night of the Hunter follows a religious fanatic, con man and murderer who marries a widow, knowing that her deceased husband had hid $10,000 from authorities following a bank robbery. The widow’s young children are reluctant to tell him...

Veeze has joked that 2022 was his “rap internship” as he prepped his debut LP, Ganger, and spent time around rap stars like Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, and Babyface Ray, observing them and learning rap-star decorum. Now, with the album out to much acclaim, the 28-year-old Detroit native is on the verge of stardom, and he’s the one whose example younger artists will be following.

This article contains spoilers for Squid Game: The Challenge through episode 10.
Squid Game became a global hit for many reasons: its bloody violence, its scathing criticism of late-stage capitalism, its Jung Ho-yeon, and so on. But perhaps the most underrated reason is the most obvious: its games.
Never before has the survival horror genre depicted lovingly-crafted high stakes versions of children’s games quite like Squid Game. When it came time for Netflix to adapt the show into reality competition Squid Game: The Challenge, it obviously couldn’t include murder, capitalistic critique, or Jung Ho-yeon. It could, however, include those games. So it did.
Squid Game: The Challenge is full of contests that should be familiar to dedicated Squid Game fans. It also tosses in a few new curveballs to keep the players on their toes. Here you can find every game that Netflix’s Squid Game reality series has staged so far,...

Plot: John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams is a genre-busting, unscripted horror anthology series from the mind of legendary director, writer, and producer John Carpenter. The series explores the dark secrets and unspeakable evil that sometimes lurks beneath the surface of the sun-drenched streets, manicured lawns, and friendly neighbors of suburbia. Each episode focuses on one true tale of terror, told by the real people who lived through it. Their firsthand accounts are brought to life through premium cinematic scene work, news clips, home photos, and archival footage, combining the visual language of horror films with the tools and techniques of documentaries, creating a uniquely frightening experience for viewers.
Review: As one of the most famous horror directors of all time, John Carpenter’s name carries enough weight that placing it above the title of a film or series is enough to make it worth checking out. Despite not having directed...

Something’s up in suburbia again. And this time- it’s something sinister. When it comes to horror movies, we all have our preferences in terms of style and sub-genre. Some of us favor a nice haunted house, while others may be looking for a creepy found footage piece, or even the occasional possession situation. In either case, you may find a taste of what you’re looking for in today’s episode where we take a retrospective look at a fun horror film with more punch packed into it than you may have expected. A movie that twists and ties different types of spooky into a small and intimate story about a struggling writer who may have just uncovered the ugly truth...

Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested Tuesday in New York City during an Instagram live session.
In the session, the 22-year-old rapper was talking to a police officer and telling him not to touch him.
“What’s in the car?” the young rapper asked the officer. “There’s no firearm in the car.”
A few seconds after, the cop told Merritt to turn around, so they could cuff him. The phone appeared to have been taken away from the “Calling My Phone” singer but continued recording as the camera turned to show multiple police officers surrounding him.
People in the background told the rapper, “Don’t fight, T,” and “Set an example, T.”
“TJay, it’s not real!” someone else said.
The live video session suggested that the rapper was arrested for possessing a firearm, but it has been reported that he was also arrested for reckless endangerment.

Kenneth Branagh's 2011 film "Thor" is one of the more unusually situated blockbusters in recent memory. It was the fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but only the second after Disney's purchase of Marvel Comics in late 2009. It was also only the second MCU film after Disney had announced that it would be making a series of superhero movies that would culminate in a massive Avengers crossover event, a novelty at the time. As such, a film made by a notably iconoclastic and theatrical director became a commercial experiment, a test to see if audiences would see a really weird-ass movie about extraterrestrial deities and unusual, ineffable other realms, provided it linked to a film they wanted to see in the future.
As a preview for things to come, or perhaps the beginning part of a larger puzzle, "Thor" functions well enough. As a standalone picture, it's odd, cheap-looking,...

It feels like just days ago we learned about Scandoval, the affair between Tom Sandoval and Raquel Leviss.
Do you remember where you were when news of the affair broke?
That's something I expect to be asking people for the years to come because it propelled the series back into the ether, making it even more prominent than before.
Wednesday's insane season finale featured bombshell after bombshell as the truth about the relationship found the Bravo hit's cast trying to pick up the pieces.
Vanderpump Rules Season 10 Episode 15 will go down as one of the defining moments in reality TV history because, the media attention aside, it featured raw emotion across 75 minutes.
That's a rarity nowadays, and it should help put to bed the rumors that the cast and producers conspired to save the series by staging a scandal.
If you watch Vanderpump Rules online, you already know all there is to know about Scandoval.

AMC is building a franchise out of the Vampire Chronicles novels and the Mayfair Witch books written by Anne Rice. This franchise endeavor began with the Interview with the Vampire series (read our review Here) and continued with the Mayfair Witches series (we reviewed that Here) – and while both of those shows have been renewed for second seasons, AMC has also announced that they’re developing a third series based on the works of Anne Rice. But this one isn’t based on a specific novel or series of novels. Instead, this one will be “set in the world of the Talamasca, a secretive organization featured in a number of Rice’s novels“.
Deadline explains, “The Talamasca, which is otherwise known as the Order of the Talamasca, features in both Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches. It is a secret society set up to research,...

Hot on the heels of Everything Everywhere All At Once‘s Oscar wins, A24 may be dipping back into the genre-bender well once more with disaster comedy Y2K.
Y2K hails from actor/comedian/writer and former “Saturday Night Live “cast member Kyle Mooney, who will direct from a screenplay co-written with producer Evan Winter.
In the film, “It’s New Year’s Eve 1999. Two high school nobodies decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium. When the clock strikes midnight, the night gets more insane than they ever could have imagined.”
It’s that intriguing premise and Wētā Workshop handling Y2K’s design and practical effects that hints toward a wilder genre-bender than expected for this disaster comedy. How insane will this high school comedy get?

Phone Call from a Stranger: Buscemi Conducts a Conduit of Trauma in Striking One-Woman Show
Conjuring everything from Jean Cocteau to T.S. Eliot, Steve Buscemi unites with The Messenger (2009) scribe Alessandro Camon for his first narrative feature in fifteen years, the diametrically opposed The Listener. A one-woman grandstand for Tessa Thompson (also producing), the only actor onscreen guiding multiple phone conversations through miscellaneous vestiges of desperation during a routinely numbing night shift as a helpline volunteer, it’s a hypnotic exercise predicated by moments of suggested violence, trenchant melancholy and often poetic rumination on human resilience despite the odds.

Netflix has released the first photos from Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, a 2022 film based on a short story by Stephen King. Adapted and directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), Mr. Harrigan’s Phone stars Donald Sutherland as Harrigan and Jaeden Martell as a young man who befriends the elderly Hannigan.
While most, but definitely not all, of Stephen King’s work scares the hell out of readers, Hancock describes this particular story as more of a cautionary fairy tale.
“More than anything, it’s about an odd relationship between a billionaire in his 80s and a [young man] and the bonds of friendship, and how far will you go for a friend?” writer/director Hancock said in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “Do you like Shawshank Redemption, do you like Stand By Me,...

From the 1976 adaptation of "Carrie" to 2017's "It," Stephen King's books have always shown great potential for a successful movie. Netflix has seemed aware of this fact ever since they started making original content; they released a film adaptation of King's claustrophobic novel "Gerald's Game" in 2017, and it was just as disturbing as the trailers promised.
At the same time, it's also become clear over the years that novellas and short stories, perhaps more so than full-length novels, make for great films. "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Mist" were both novellas, and they ended up making for the most critically acclaimed King movies ever made. King's shorter works often give directors far more room to breathe. With that in mind,...

Netflix hasn’t announced exactly when they’re going to release the Stephen King adaptation Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, we just know it’s coming to the streaming service sometime this year. The movie has just taken a big step toward getting sent out into the world, though. It has been screened for the ratings board at the Motion Picture Association and earned its rating. This Better Call Saul article contains spoilers.
While Better Call Saul could go in many different directions in its final two episodes, the 11th of the season, “Breaking Bad,” gave us some ambiguous intel on the character we’ve all been most curious about ever since this final season started: Kim Wexler. Rhea Seehorn’s mesmerizing portrayal of Jimmy’s love interest for the past six seasons left his life before the parent show ever started, meaning her fate has been up in the air for years. What has she been doing in the time since she split with Jimmy? Have either one of them tried to contact each other during this period?
Some of these questions were finally answered this week when Saul’s secretary, Francesca Liddy (Tina Parker), told Gene over a Nebraska payphone that Kim called her and asked about him in the wake of the FBI’s search for Walt,...

A state trooper who was part of Andrew Cuomo’s security detail sued the ex-New York governor in a sexual harassment claim, but the lawsuit quickly was revised Friday to include Cuomo’s spokesman as a defendant.
The state trooper’s lawsuit (read it here) claims that Cuomo “used his physical proximity to Trooper 1 to touch her inappropriately,” among other accusations. The trooper, unidentified in the lawsuit, was among the 11 women who accused Cuomo of sexual misconduct in Attorney General Letitia James’ investigation, the results of which ultimately led to his resignation last year.
Cuomo has not been charged with criminal wrongdoing, but there had been the expectation that he would face civil litigation.
