David McGuire, EVP of Programming & Development for Telepictures, subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television Group, is exiting after more than 30 years with the company.
McGuire’s departure is the result of restructuring following Mike Darnell’s departure as Warner Bros. Unscripted Television President.
In his current position, McGuire oversaw all aspects of creative affairs for first-run syndicated series, unscripted series, and digital content developed and produced by Telepictures.
Credited as one of the key architects behind The Ellen DeGeneres Show, McGuire most recently oversaw the launch of The Jennifer Hudson Show. The People’s Choice– and Daytime Emmy–nominated series ranked as the #1 new first-run strip of the 2022–23 season in average weekly reach.
McGuire also forged key partnerships with advertisers for Telepictures’ integration business.
Together with DeGeneres, McGuire helped build The Ellen DeGeneres Show into an Emmy-winning afternoon staple and global brand by combining the strength of traditional media with the emerging power of digital platforms.

“Wonder Kid” Nate is all by his lonesome in the first trailer for Ted Lasso Season 3.
After going to work for Rupert at West Ham United, newly released footage sees AFC Richmond’s former assistant coach sipping a glass of red wine. He’s seated at the window table at his parent’s favorite Greek restaurant, and he looks positively miserable. Compare that to the joyous sight of Isaac, Dani, Colin and several other Richmond players gathered for dinner and drinks. (Perhaps they’re dining at Sam’s Nigerian restaurant?)

The verdict is in: Syndicated court staples “Judge Mathis” and “The People’s Court” will both end their run at the end of this season, Variety has confirmed. “Judge Mathis” will wrap after 24 seasons, while this most recent iteration of “The People’s Court” wraps after its 26th season. Season 24 and Season 26, respectively.
Both shows come from Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Telepictures Productions and are distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. According to insiders, the decision was made due to the declining nature of the daytime syndication landscape. As local TV stations shrink their syndication dollars and the advertising marketplace shrinks for daytime syndication, first-run syndication has become a trickier landscape. At the same time, station groups have been expanding their local news broadcasts, also in a bid to save money.
“Judge Mathis” also comes from And Syndicated Productions, while “The People’s Court” is a Ralph Edwards/Stu Billett Production.

It’s fitting that “Judge Mathis” star Greg Mathis will be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 4 because his life reads like a Hollywood story.
Born in Detroit and raised by a single mother in a housing project and in other areas, Mathis’ young adult life included time with the Errol Flynn’s street gang and incarceration in the Wayne County Jail as a juvenile.
He credits a cousin for turning his life around by helping him get into college. He eventually got a law degree, became a district court judge and active in politics, even serving as the Michigan head of Jesse Jackson’s 1988 U.S. presidential campaign.
But since 1999, he’s presided over a different kind of courtroom: the one for his eponymous syndicated, Daytime Emmy-winning program.

Apparently, if you host a TV or radio show, this week was the one where you officially chose sides on the whole Occupy Wall Street matter. After hearing the thoughts of Fox News and MSNBC anchors, someone else in the public eye has spoken out. This time it was none other than the titular host of Judge Mathis, Judge Greg Mathis. In a recorded message, Mathis implored his audience (particularly the African Americans) to support the movement. However, he also gave advice to the protesters on where he thought their proceedings so far were lacking.
