It's doubtful that when Lois Duncan published the slow-burn mystery "I Know What You Did Last Summer" for young adult readers, she predicted it would become the basis for a horror movie franchise over 20 years later. That, however, is precisely what happened — much to the chagrin of junior high English teachers everywhere. Written by the now legendary teen horror screenwriter Kevin Williamson, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was written years before it finally hit production, but after the massive success of "Scream" in 1996, producer Erik Feig knew the best course of action was getting another Williamson slasher into theaters.
Using Duncan's novel as a loose basis, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is about four friends named Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Ray, and Barry (Ryan Phillippe) who after partying on the Fourth of July after high school graduation, hit a person in a drunk driving accident.

News this week came in that the final planned Divergent Series movie would be skipping the theaters and go direct to television/DVD. It’s a rare move for such a major studio franchise to make, and it got me to thinking about other movie series that fizzled and did the same. Come inside to check out a history of downward sliding franchises!
If I come off sounding a bit harsh about all this, it’s mostly due to the fact that it’s such a bizarre situation. It’s been awhile since a studio franchise had to dropped down to direct-to-television and it’s not a good thing. Sure, Lionsgate is trying to spin the information that it’s part of a planned way to jumpstart a spin-off TV series...but the reality is this isn’t how they wanted The Divergent Series to end.

We like to blame stars and directors, more times than not, for the direction that Hollywood has taken in recent years, toward the proliferation of sequels, remakes, and movies based on toys, gum, rocks, and board games. But the reality is, stars don't often have the power alone to push a project through the production mill. Two of the biggest stars in Hollywood, Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell, proved that just this week in their unsuccessful attempts to get sequels to Zoolander and Anchorman made.
It's not the celebrities who wield the most power. It's the producers. And some of those producers are evil assholes. Here are the five most loathsome among them. They're the people behind the crap, and most people don't even know what they look like. I want to put a picture to their assholery. Hang their images on your dart boards while basking in the collective...

Sylvain White has a varied background as a director starting with the 2006 slasher sequel I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer to the street-dancing drama of 2007's Stomp the Yard, but White has found a home in the comic book movie genre. With The Losers opening April 23, White is already at work adapting Frank Miller's Ronin. White told MTV that comic books have always been an interest for him, which is what drew him to the project.
Well, to tell you the truth, I grew up in Paris reading a lot of graphic novels — mostly European material, but some American stuff, too. So when I was looking for projects, I always looked into the graphic novel arena. What appealed to me about The Losers was that it wasn't the typical superhero-with-superpowers thing. It was based on real characters — realistic characters — and based in reality, like a lot of...

Arthurian legend is apparently going to be the new vampire. Just you wait, in a couple of years we're going to be up to our balls in Excaliburs and round tables. Just last week in broke the exclusive news that Guy Ritchie would be directing a Warren Ellis-penned story of Excalibur. Not to be confused with the remake of the 1981 John Boorman film that Bryan Singer is attached to.
Now, there's a third horse in the race. The La Times is reporting that New Regency is developing Pendragon, which will be an origin tale of the Knights of the Round Table, using a younger cast. Whether this means it'll simply be the story of their early years, or whether they're going to Twilight-ify it and make it all angsty and teen-dreamy and, you know, shitty.... that remains to be seen.
The script for Pendragon was written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy,...

E1 Entertainment, Amaze Film + Television and Big Motion Pictures in association with Astral Media’s The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central announced today that principal photography is underway on the Canadian original television series Call Me Fitz (working title). The series stars actor/director Jason Priestley (The Day of the Triffids, My Name is Earl, Beverly Hills 90210) as the charismatic used car salesman known as Fitz. Created and written by producer/writer Sheri Elwood (Defying Gravity), the 13‐part, half‐hour comedy series is filming an hour outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia in the Annapolis Valley region until mid‐January. The series is scheduled to air on The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Movie Central (Western Canada) in 2010.
In Call Me Fitz, Jason Priestley stars as Richard “Fitz” Fitzpatrick, a balls‐out, used car dealer who pushes the boundaries of acceptable behaviour just a few steps too far.

Two photos from Warner Bros. comic book adaptation The Losers have made their way online.
The film’s log line is as follows:
After being betrayed and left for dead, members of a CIA black ops team root out those who targeted them for assassination.
Click the images to enlarge.
Whilst the comic itself is quite cool and the talented cast includes Jeffery Dean Morgan (Watchmen), Idris Elba (RocknRolla), Chris Evans (Sunshine), Zoe Saldana (Avatar), Jason Patric (The Lost Boys), and Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid), I have been very skeptical about this project since Sylvain White took over directing duties.
If you are not familiar with White’s work, he is the man responsible for the atrocities known as Stomp the Yard and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. I will reserve judgement on The Losers until I actually watch the film, or at least a trailer,...

Wan-tastic! Australian film-maker James Wan has been named as co-writer and director on the long awaited 'Castlevania' adaptation project. The movie, based on the Konami developed franchise of the same name, had Sylvain White ('I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer') originally set to direct. Wan, whose probably known best for co-creating the ever popular 'Saw' franchise, has had a quiet time of late as it's been nearly 3 years since his last two directorial ...

A Castlevania movie would seem pretty logical right now, right? Vampires are all the rage, video game adaptations have been popular for at least a decade now, and there's money to be made! But Bloody Disgusting has it from a good source that Paul W.S. Anderson's planned adaptation of the long-running video game is on hold. Sylvain White, who directed Stomp the Yard as well as the lesser known I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, had been picked to direct the story, which would have focused on the origins of the video game's Belmont clan of vampires. But hey, that's all in the past. The idea of a movie adaptation for this video game probably isn't entirely dead, but it won't be popping up very soon. Sorry if you're disappointed.

A big screen adaptation of Konami's Castlevania video game series has been in development for years now, but with Paul W.S. Anderson at the helm, it seemed destined to be just another terrible video game movie. When it was announced that Anderson would step back to take a producer role, there was a brief glimmer of hope, but then Sylvain White (Stomp The Yard, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer) was chosen to take his place [1] in the director's chair and everyone went right back to not caring. Ian Jeffers (Death Sentence) was hired to write the script with Anderson. Well, the good news is, it looks like Paul W.S. Anderson's take on the project probably won't be seeing the light of day. The bad news is, no one else will likely have a crack at it either. Bloody Disgusting [2] reports that the movie has since fallen...

Castlevania has long since been on the cards as a game to film adaptation over at Rogue Pictures. Hell, I even read last year's script review with a fanboy fascination! The only issue I ever had with the project was that Paul W.S. Anderson was penning a treatment and I always felt it could use a more serious touch.
That in mind, I'd have much preferred Paul W.S. Anderson than no film (or director) at all, which seems to be the sorry state that this project has found itself in!

Sources close to Bloody-Disgusting have confirmed that Paul W.S. Anderson's Castlevania adaptation has officially turned to dust. The project, originally announced with Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer) attached to direct, had recently went out to new directors only to take a trip into the abyss of "development hell." Simon Belmont, it was nice knowing ya. The pic was to focus on the origins of Dracula and the uprising of the Belmont Clan, a vampire-slaying family who supposedly become humanity's last hope. Ian Jeffers had been penning the screenplay alongside Anderson. We'll keep you posted if any fresh news arises, until then back to the control pad.

Speaking with IGN, director Paul W.S. Anderson (Death Race, Resident Evil) has updated the status of Castlevania, the upcoming action-horror flick based on the popular Konami video game series. Anderson, who is writing and producing the movie, says he still plans on making it, but last year’s Writers Guild strike and a potential Screen Actors Guild strike have put the project on hold. “It's a project that everybody likes. I love the videogame. I think the script is really strong. Everyone is really enthusiastic about it, but we're still in the process of deciding when the movie gets shot," Anderson explained. "This year has been unbelievably chaotic for the film industry with the writers strike followed by the perpetual threat of a SAG strike. It's one thing if you're making a huge movie where you have $200 million and you say, 'Oh, [expletive] it. There's a SAG strike. We'll just wait.

So remember back in 2007 when no one could understand why Warner Bros. had chosen to hire Tim Story (Taxi) to direct a feature film version of Vertigo's The Losers? Well, it looks like WB might have come to the same conclusion as we did because Variety reports that Story has now been replaced by Sylvain White. Personally, I haven't been able to wrap my head around either of WB's choices for the comic book flick. It is nothing against either one of these guys, but keep in mind that White directed Stomp the Yard and I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer .
