Town without pity part 2
safenoe20 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon by Michael P. Ghiglieri and Thomas M. Myers came to mind when I was reflecting upon Grand Canyon or Bust, the second in a three-part Brady Bunch special about the family in the Grand Canyon and the dangers they faced, although it was exciting for them no doubt. All credit to the production team for taking the Brady Bunch beyond their comfort zone, and the Grand Canyon it was.

I would have loved for the Brady Bunch to travel to New York City, Montana, Chicago, Disneyland, Florida, Alaska and other places outside the box. Anyway, Grand Canyon or Bust is worth watching.

The Bradys Finally Get To Grand Canyon
Jimmy_the_Gent421 July 2020
The family sets up camp at the bottom of the canyon and Bobby and Cindy get lost.

This is a good followup and another cliff hanger ending. Mr Brown returns with their car, the family is very forgiving. The family gets to see the Canyon, there are great shots of it. They ride down by mule and Bobby and Cindy wander off when they spot an Indian boy and try to follow him. It ends with everybody searching for them as night starts to fall, now on to Part 3.

LEAVING THE GHOSTS BEHIND!
tcchelsey6 November 2023
Second episode of the famous Arizona adventure, directed by Oscar Rudolph. Rudolph was a veteran of tv, directing some of the most classic episodes of BATMAN. I bet he signed lots of autographs for the cast and crew. He was a part of tv history.

There's a happy, goofy beginning as Zachariah (Jim Backus) miraculously returns with the Brady's car. It's amazing he knew how to drive after all his years in the desert! His story is he staked his claim with mining officials -- so no one will steal his gold stash! There's lots of apologies and he sends everybody on their way. It's too bad Jim Backus' appearance didn't last a little longer, because he was such an over the top character. Also if he really did strike gold, he probably was about to become a very wealthy person.

He would next appear in a Season Five episode where Bobby becomes a pool sensation.

FINALLY... the gang reaches the Grand Canyon, and there are some breathtaking shots of the area.

The spot where they are overlooking the canyon is an area used by many production companies as the vantage point is excellent. Getting down to business, the crew travels (on mules?) to the bottom of the canyon.

This is one of the super highlights and Alice is a bit leary of the whole thing, as usual. Her looks are priceless. I think if Alice didn't come along for the trip, it would not be as much fun. She also has some of the best lines.

Barry Williams took many photographs, and happened to snap some famous pix of New York governor Nelson Rockefeller, who happened to be visiting Arizona at the time with his wife. Whether or not they were BRADY BUNCH fans, who knows? But Barry says they had a neat meet and greet time. This historical get together was later recorded in his Brady Bunch memoirs book.

Of course, you know somethings gonna' go wrong when Bobby and Cindy wander off to do some exploring. They get lost BIG TIME. The gang re-groups and it's all hands on deck to find them ASAP.

Stay tuned for the third and final episode.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 2 remastered dvd box set.
