It's a good start.

Doctor Corder is tasked with choosing one of two candidates to take over, and run a large, but failing British business, Corder is given a week to assess whether Phillips or Hunter is the most suitable candidate.

What an interesting first episode, you don't often associate the use of psychology with a 1960's Britain, I understand that techniques would have been used over in The US, but in Britain, I'd never have thought it, interesting.

I always assumed the 60's was a time where Britain was still obsessed with social order, and tether than talk about all matters affecting mental health, people would have just gotten on with things, so it really is an interesting subject.

Herbert Lom is great as Corder, I look forward to learning more about him, Lloyd Lamble and Ronald Leigh Hunt were very good as the subjects.

Plenty of familiar faces to look out for, including Geoffrey Palmer, Delphi and John Horsley.

A very interesting snapshot of the time.

7/10.

British society now needs psychiatrists

I loved the Human Jungle with Herbet Lom in the starring role as Doctor Roger Corder. But this programme was before it's time. During the 1960's when this programme was shown, Britain had community's where people talked to each other, people could relate to each other.

But from the 1980's British society started to breakdown, we started to become social and economically divided, we started not getting to really know our neighbours, but instead to worship the materialistic world, we started to need someone to talk to but we did'not even know it.

If The Human Jungle was shown today people would realise that they actually needed someone else to really relate too, because no man is an island, but the 1980's personified individualism as the great ideal.

The Vacant Chair

Warning: Spoilers
The first episode of The Human Jungle and it brings psychiatry to the boardroom.

This was not unheard of in America where psychometric testing was already taking place for executive vacancies.

Dr Corder has a week to assess two contrasting candidates Phillips and Hunter to be the next managing director of a large British conglomerate. A company that is in trouble.

Philips is a bit of a tyrant who believes in getting results. Hunter likes to work with people to achieve results through cooperation.

It was an interesting idea to see Corder in the business world. His final decision might be controversial but at least he provided the context. The company needed a firefighter.
