Decent Beginning

I'm surprised I am the first person to evaluate the first episode of the "Lou Grant" show. In 1977, following the end of the "Mary Tyler Moore" show, the comedic boss of WJR's newsroom becomes a more realistic character and heads off to LA. This episode is a bit uneven because first he has to get the job at the City Desk for the Los Angeles Tribune. He is immediately thrust into the internal and external controversies and a scandal within a police precinct, involving underaged girls. There is something sort of plodding about this first episode but that is not unusual.

Thought I'd start at the beginning ! Worthy of further investigation.

For whatever reason I managed to miss seeing any of this tv series-show until today. I always liked Ed Asner on Mary Tyler Moore, and I remember when this show was first on tv,but I never watched a single episode until today.

I figure why not start with the first episode, right?

Well, this episode is a bit on the long side, and it does get off to a slow start. There is a lot of padding here and it shows.

Some of it seems kind of silly, some of it falls flat, but despite this the show does pick up some steam and momentum. The basic story of the episode is rather vague but what we do know is creepy indeed. What actually becomes of the situation is pretty vague as well. So what we have here is a new show that is off to a slow but promising start. To be fair,an hour-long show is a lot of time to fill up ,and I am imagining that as the show goes along they get much better at filling the time. I will continue to explore the episodes and try to get a wider perspective. This series stayed on for 5 years, that fact alone says something good for it I'd say!
