Excellent!

This really gives Castillo a chance to shine! I really feel sorry for Tubbs.

Solid nuts and bolts episode
Reel112021 March 2024
Been binging Miami Vice lately and this is one of the few episodes that lives up to the potential set out in the early days. I always remember to watch this show in relatiion to the times (almost 40 years now, sheesh). This one has a darkness and edge to it that feels genuine. It's a showcase for Tubbs and Castillo. It moves at a brisk pace (unlike many Vice episodes) it doesn't rely too heavily on montages ( not that there's anything wrong with them in Vice world). Ron Pearlman (sons of anarchy) and Laurence Fishburn are the pre-fame talents and are also great. I really thought it was going to slow down and get corny when Tubbs goes on the inside as a prisoner, some cheesiness does ensue (it is network tv after all), but not enough to distract. Overall, a solid outing early on in the third season, that seems to be shaping up to be better than the second (fingers crossed)

Tubbs goes inside
Tweekums27 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Things start happily enough with Tubbs having a great time with his new girlfriend... before the opening credits she is dead; caught in the crossfire in a gunfight between a major dealer and what appears to be a rank amateur. It turns out the 'amateur' is a guard at the local prison and it looks as though he isn't the only guard dealing. They aren't just dealing either; anybody in the prison who gets in their way finds themselves dead. In order to expose what is going on Tubbs goes into the prison posing as a dealer... it isn't long before people are taking an interest in him. It looks as though his plan is working and a deal is set up... then he gets made for a cop; if the team can't get to him quickly Tubbs is a dead man!

During the opening moments of this episode I thought it was going to be a lighter instalment; it quickly became apparent that it was in fact going to be one of the more serious instalments. That isn't too say there were no laughs; it was pretty funny seeing Izzy working as a male stripper! Once inside the prison there was a constant sense that Tubbs was in real danger both from his fellow inmates and the guards. Guest stars included Ron Perlman who played the prison commissioner and Laurence Fishburne who had a more important role as one of the corrupt guards. Away from his partner's spot light Philip Michael Thomas got to shine as Tubbs putting in a fine performance as a man in a genuinely dangerous position; Edward James Olmos also go a chance to show how good he is and how his character is really the coolest in the show!

Miami Vice goes to prison.
mm-3915 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Miami Vice goes to prison. After finding a prison guard dead in a drug deal, Tubbs is sent deep cover as a, big time, drug dealer into the prison. A fast pace, easy to follow episodes, with mean guards. Prison life, and the Vice gang with informants creates a few twists and turns. The plot twist at the ending has Marty go big time to save the team. Entertaining, but will be remembered as the prison episode. 6 stars.
