Neatly Done

Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** Yup, a model on how to tell a fast moving short detective story. I KNEW something was familiar. When I looked up the main actress in IMDB, I found her to be Susan Cummings. This time shown off as a platinum blonde, and deadly, at that. I recognized her from a Perry Mason episode "The Fan Dancer's Horse". That one also starred Judy Tyler, and when they stood next to each other, they could've been close sisters. Judy, of course was also every little kid's secret crush (kinda like Beaver's miss Landers), while she played Princess Summerfall Winterspring on the Howdy Doody show. On Perry, she was captivatingly HOT.She, and Susan were both beautiful. Judy had a brief successful life, perishing in a car wreck very soon after Perry Mason; she was headed for bigger things, it was reported (and very possible). Susan had a moderate career, and a long life passing away just about a year and a half ago. R.I.P. to both ladies. Beautiful, talented, and missed.. this episode? An 8.

Average, but Solid

Average episode unless you like ogling a shapely girl (Cummings) parading in her underwear and tight skirts. Then it really gels. Pete's hired by Paula to save her from her husband who she says is trying to kill her. But is she on the level since there's a ton of stolen money on the line. Good hook, as usual, along with one heckuva brawl in what may be a studio prop room. Looks like the brawlers broke about everything breakable, and catch that unexpected outcome. Then there's the old Irish guy who's working on a gas mileage extender. Talk about being prescient, and that was 50+ years ago. We could sure use him now.

Anyway, an underrated part of the show's success are the droll exchanges between Jacobi and Gunn. Here the chemistry is again on amusing display. One thing I've noted over time. Whenever a street is blocked off at one end by a cross-street, you can bet it's a studio set. Nothing wrong with that since it allows producers to create desired effects. This was especially significant to the Gunn series, which depended greatly on moody atmosphere. Note the water-slickened street scene here. Anyway, nothing special, just one more solid entry in an outstanding PI series.
