Is This Inspiration or Desperation?
darryl-tahirali15 March 2022
Science fiction in "Wonder Woman" goes intergalactic again, this time with literal little green men invading Earth in "Mind Stealers from Outer Space," the first of a two-part episode that heralds the return of a space alien named Andros (Dack Rambo), the son of the first Andros seen during a season-one two-parter ("Judgment from Outer Space").

This Andros is trying to stop the Skrill, a deadly criminal race that has escaped imprisonment and is heading to Earth, with Andros pleading with his high council on the planet Octarus to follow them and, with Wonder Woman's help, prevent the Skrill from sucking humanity's knowledge from its collective brains--and prevent his own people from incapacitating Earthlings with the "contamination unit" they want to send to recapture the Skrill.

Stephen Kandel's ambitious script soon meets the series' budget limitations and shooting schedule as the diminutive Skrill, despite their fearsome ray-weapons and mind-sucking, er, eggshells, are clad in what look like homemade Halloween costumes while they chirp like computerized birds. They do manage to inhabit the bodies of two college students on a field trip in the mountains, Debbie (Kristin Larkin) and Johnny (Vincent Van Patten), giving them disguises as they begin their conquest of Earth.

Meanwhile, Andros arrives and makes contact with Wonder Woman; then, working with her alter ego Diana Prince, they arrange a demonstration of his powers for the skeptical military types, one of whom is a Skrill in disguise, which Andros detects. Debbie and Johnny, spying on the demonstration, try to help their comrade; Debbie is captured, but Johnny escapes and reveals to the other Skrill that Diana and Wonder Woman are one and the same, with Diana's persona more vulnerable, and unleashes the Sardor (Paul Baxley), seemingly the low-budget spawn of Darth Vader and the Punisher, to dispose of Diana as the lukewarm cliffhanger.

At this point, Lynda Carter has made "Wonder Woman" her own although Lyle Waggoner gets more screen time than he's had in several previous episodes as mountainous settings lend some variety to the location filming. Still, only the second part can tell us whether the premise of "Mind Stealers from Outer Space" is inspiration or desperation.

THE CONFUSED RETURN OF ANDROS
asalerno1014 May 2022
The Planetary Council is hunting down alien criminals called Skreels, they have the ability to steal human minds and store them to later be sold on a space black market. The Skreels arrive on Earth and Andros chases after them to capture them. Beyond the fact that the character of Andros who was in the first season played by Tim O Connor and here is played by Dack Rambo, the confusing thing is if this Andros is the same one who was on our planet in 1942 or is the son of that Andros , this important detail is not explained correctly which generates a confusing situation. The episode is intended to be a continuation of the memorable double episode The Judgment From Outer Space from season 1, but it has nowhere near the quality of its predecessor.

WW does Star Wars
Joxerlives20 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Mind stealers from outer space pt1&2 Who could resist a title like that? Certainly not the studio hoping to ride the Star Wars mania sweeping the country! So Andros IS back or rather his son is, I just never realised it. So what happened to his dad? I guess that's a story from between seasons 1 and 2? Andros Jr played by the gorgeous and magnificently named 'Dack Rambo' who would go on to great fame in supersoap Dallas before becoming one of the high profile victims of the terrible AIDS epidemic which swept through the homosexual community in the early 80s along with Rock Hudson, Freddy Mercury etc. Ironically Rambo was his real surname (the book First Blood had been published at this point but Sylvester Stallone's film had yet to be made). But his real first name was Norman. We also have Earl Boen who'll go on to play Dr Silverman in the Terminator films. The Skrill are pretty stupid looking as is Sardor who may be influenced by Bigfoot on The Six Million Dollar Man. More weirdly re-edited fan films of their fight on Youtube. So the presence of alien life is known to the general public in the Wonder Woman universe. We see WW address the UN, so why do so many people throughout the series still act as if they don't know who she is? IRAC know's Diana's true identity and there are actually hints of attraction between her and Andros. Sardor's wheezing and appearance is very Darth Vader. But nothing can distract the fact that the villains are really just a bunch of kids/midgets in outfits spraypainted green, even if they do make the R2D2 noise. Another new ability for WW, able to astral project. 5/10 no match for real Stormtroopers

Suspiciously similar to Star Wars
lorenkahle15 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The evil characters in this two part episode are aliens called "Scrill" which have a evil strongman who helps enforce their will on Wonder Woman. This "enforcer" looks suspiciously like Darth Vader from Star Wars. He is dressed in all black, including black helmet with metallic grill for a mouth. The character breathes like Darth Vader as well. The aliens called Scrill are dressed in corny alien suits but make noises similar to some of the droids on Star Wars. In fact, I'm sure they are using some of the exact same sounds. Since this TV series came out in December 1977, it is interesting that they allowed such similarities as the blockbuster movie that came out the same year. Also, one goof that I noticed in the second part when the Scrill are fighting Wonder Woman in the United Nations as the aliens are scrambling out of the room one of the aliens suits pulls up in the back revealing the skin of a human back. I guess they chose not to edit that out or re-do the scene.
