Flashback: When a smelly green ogre (‘Shrek’) made Oscar history [Video]
The 74th Academy Awards, which honored films from 2001, was historic in many ways. Whoopi Goldberg would host the ceremony on March 24, 2002, for her fourth time. Denzel Washington became just the second black actor to win a lead trophy. It was for his villainous cop in “Training Day” — 8 years after Sidney Poitier became the first for his handyman in 1963’s “Lilies of the Field.” Halle Berry also broke down a barrier by becoming the first-ever black actress to win an Oscar as a lead, portraying a single mother in “Monster’s Ball.”

It was also the debut of the Best Animated Feature category. As Goldberg explained on air, “In recognition to their steadily growing importance to the motion picture arts, the academy has added a category honoring animated feature films. Bambi, who is now in an assisted living facility in Palm Springs, has been lobbying for this for years. I proudly

Will ‘Toy Story’ or ‘Frozen’ become the first franchise to win multiple animated feature Oscars?

Will ‘Toy Story’ or ‘Frozen’ become the first franchise to win multiple animated feature Oscars?
The Best Animated Feature Oscar race is starting to look very, very familiar. The top three of our five predicted nominees are sequels — “Toy Story 4,” “Frozen II” and “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” — and if either of the first two films wins, it’d be the first time a franchise has claimed multiple victories.

Only one sequel has ever won since the category’s inception 18 years ago: “Toy Story 3” (2010). But since the first two films, released in 1995 and 1999, predated the category, “Toy Story” just has one animated feature Oscar to its name at the moment. “Frozen” (2013) nabbed the award six years ago. (2010’s “How to Train Your Dragon” and 2014’s “How to Train Your Dragon 2” were nominated but didn’t win.)

Shrek” (2001), which took home the inaugural Best Animated Feature Oscar, and “The Incredibles” (2004) are the only franchises thus far that could’ve added a second win.

Julie Andrews Joins Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton Netflix Series
Julie Andrews is the first person officially cast in one of Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming Netflix shows.

Andrews has joined the untitled series based on Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton family novels. She will voice the character Lady Whistledown. Anonymous to readers, the sharp-tongued gossip writer uses a curious mix of social commentary and scathing insult to send the season of 1813’s ton into an all-out frenzy.

Andrews is a legend of stage and screen, perhaps best known for her roles in films like “The Sound of Music” and “Mary Poppins,” both of which earned her Academy Award nominations. She is also known for roles in films like “Victor/Victoria,” “The Princess Diaries” and its sequel, as well as the “Despicable Me” and “Minion” franchises. Andrews also voiced the character of Queen Lillian in the blockbuster hits “Shrek 2,” “Shrek the Third,” and “Shrek Forever After.”

The Bridgerton series is set in

‘Spider-Verse’ Director Bob Persichetti to Helm ‘Puss in Boots’ Sequel for DreamWorks

Just days after Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse took home the Best Animated Feature Academy Award, Deadline reports that the film's co-director Bob Persichetti is set to helm the sequel...to Puss in Boots, the 2011 Shrek spin-off starring Antonio Banderas as the voice of a sword-fielding rogue who also happens to be a cat who wears hats like a real human man. It makes sense, though, at least money-wise. After the character was introduced in Shrek 2 and appeared in Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, Puss In Boots—directed by Chris …

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Review

The truth of the matter cannot be ignored: The Lego Movie was an ad. In fact, with its contagious energy and surprising knack for joining big ideas with tiny details, it was about as good an ad as there is – you could say it was, like its hypnotizingly catchy anthem declared (over…and over…and over again), awesome.

Now, five years and two spinoffs later, we have The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, another advertisement, but unfortunately a far less distracting or clever one. It’s still a lot of fun. It’s just not as rousing or as inventive as its predecessor – which is certainly no easy task – even though it’s built with many of the same pieces. But that may be a part of the problem.

The comical twosome behind the first one, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, are back this time as writers, with Shrek Forever After

We’ve got a new international trailer to share with you for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. It’s called “Space” and after showing us what happened right after the end of the first movie, it launches into Emmet embarking on a journey into space to save Wyldstyle and the rest of his friends, who were abducted by an alien from another world.

On this journey, Emmet runs into a badass character named Rex Dangervest who joins Emmet on his quest, and Emmet also wants Rex to teach him how to be tough. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen from this sequel so far and it looks like it’s going to deliver some good laughs and entertainment.

Mary Poppins Returns May Not Have Julie Andrews, But Aquaman Does

Mary Poppins Returns May Not Have Julie Andrews, But Aquaman Does
Julie Andrews plays a small, but pivotal role in James Wan's Aquaman. Andrews recently revealed that she didn't want to take part in the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns because she didn't want to take away from Emily Blunt's portrayal of the character that she first made famous. Instead, she'll inadvertently be taking on the Mary Poppins movie at the box office since Aquaman opens a just a few days later. It's going to be a tight race when both movies hit theaters late next month.

In a new interview, Aquaman producer Peter Safran revealed that Julie Andrews has a part in the movie. Andrews portrays Karathen, who is a mythical sea creature. Karathen helps Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry on his journey, and Safran says that Andrews was the perfect person for the job. He explains.

"We wanted the Karathen to have the voice of a classic British actress,

The New Trailer For The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Takes Us on an Awesome Intergalactic Adventure

Warner Bros. has released a brand new trailer for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and the story takes Emmet on what looks to be a crazy awesome intergalactic adventure to save Wyldstyle and the rest of his friends, who are abducted by an alien from another world.

The trailer also highlights the new character Rex Dangervest, who is a galaxy defending archaeologist, cowboy, and raptor trainer. He’s basically all the other movie characters that Chris Pratt has played all rolled into one. He will help Emmet on his journey.

This sequel looks like it’s going to be just as fun as the first movie, and I like what I’m seeing in this new trailer that if filled with all kinds of entertaining footage.

The returning cast also includes Elizabeth Banks as Wyldstyle, Will Arnett as Batman, Channing Tatum as Superman, and Jonah Hill as Green Lantern.

‘Shrek’ and ‘Puss in Boots’ to get minor reboots

  • HeyUGuys
Universal and Illumination founder and CEO, Chris Meledandri are taking a nostalgic walk down memory with a plan to give ‘Shrek’ and the ‘Puss in Boots’ spin-off a minor reboot.

Whilst the aim is to reboot the franchise to appeal to a whole new generation, Meledandri hopes to bring back some of the original voice cast. It was the cast of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas that made the green ogre and friends so palatable.

In hoping to bring the band back together, Meledandri told Variety

“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” explains Meledandri. “The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply

Shrek Reboot in the Works, Overseen by Illumination Boss

Joseph Baxter Nov 6, 2018

The Shrek franchise is returning, with reboot efforts planned for not only the green ogre, but Puss in Boots.

Shrek has been in a bit of a slumber for the better part of a decade, hard as it might be to believe. The ultra-successful animated film franchise, which later became the platform for a multimedia pop culture blitz, notably spawning spinoff Puss in Boots, last focused on its main character in the fourth film, 2010’s Shrek Forever After. Yet, an untitled Shrek 5 was planned as recently as last year, until it wasn’t – and now we know why. A franchise reboot is nigh!

Both Shrek and Puss in Boots are getting reboot treatments, reports Variety. Universal Pictures – whose parent company, Comcast, purchased the franchise’s original studio, DreamWorks, for 3.8 billion back in June of 2016 – has spearheaded this reboot push. The task of overseeing the efforts fall

Shrek and Crew Are Heading for a Revival

  • Cinelinx
Universal Pictures is looking to bring the Shrek franchise (along with Puss n' Boots) back to life with a "reboot" of the iconic Ogre and have chosen Despicable Me's producer to take charge of it. Come inside for more information!

It's crazy to think that the last Shrek movie we got, Shrek Forever After, was nearly ten years ago. I mean, I don't think of the first Shrek film as being all that old, but here we are. After all that time it seems inevitable that the series is getting a reboot. Variety has the report that Chris Meledandri, the producer behind many of Illumination Entertainment's most popular films, has been tasked by Universal Pictures to bring the Shrek franchise, which includes the Puss n' Boots spin-offs, back to life.

It's important to emphasize, despite the verbage used, that this is seemingly being tooled as a revival and not an actual reboot.

Despicable Me Creator To Reboot Shrek Franchise

Though many a fan would argue that the Shrek films should’ve called it quits after movie number two, it’s clear that if this series ever managed to rediscover the wit and irreverence that made these flicks so popular in the first place, then there’d be a lot of filmgoers who’d be keen to see the results. As it turns out, Universal Pictures has the same idea in mind, and Despicable Me creator Chris Meledandri is apparently the one charged with bringing back this fantasy franchise.

Variety reports that the producer aims to send the famed ogre and friends on some brand new adventures, but for those of you who dread the idea of new voices coming out of these characters, Meledandri offers his assurances that he wishes to bring back old cast members like Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas.

“When you look back on
