Fascinating episode chronicles the arrival of Spanish Conquistador Cortez to Mexico in 1519, where he invaded the Aztec people in order to conquer their civilization. He was greeted with astonishment by the Aztec people and their leader Montezuma, because not only had they never seen people like this before who had unknown things like steel and horses, but their arrival was foretold in an old prophecy, right down to the exact date. Cortez had Montezuma arrested, and was disgusted by their practice of human sacrifice. This led to a revolt, and though the Spanish were incredibly outnumbered, they still put it down, and the later death of Montezuma brought the Aztec Empire to a close.

In Search of The Aztec Conquest is a historical episode. The viewer learns about Cortez and the Aztec conquest. The prophesy, and step by step conquest of the Aztecs. Cortez and the Aztec king's interaction where interesting. Of course, there where interview with experts, footage of a dig and great narration for a solid episode. Worth watching, but not nothing stands out here. 7 out of 10 stars.... The last season of In Search of running out of ideas.

In Search Of... "Aztec Conquest" (1981)
Montezuma was the leader of the Aztec people but he put too much faith in Spanish Conquistador Cortez who was taken as a God with disastrous results. This here certainly isn't the greatest episode in the series but if you're a fan then there's plenty of entertainment to be had from it. It seems season six is becoming more of a history lesson as the "mystery" aspect has been removed and instead we're given a lesson on the subjects. There's certainly nothing wrong with this change but it was clear that the series was trying something new with their ratings slipping after the previous season. The story told here is certainly fascinating and the re-enactments were also quite good.
