Brittany Curran will star in Backmask. Shooting began on Marcus Nispel's horror movie last week, with the actress in the lead role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film centres around a group of teenagers who accidentally free an evil spirit, which begins to possess them one by one. Curran is best known for her role as Lucy in TNT's television show Men of a Certain Age. She also appeared in horror film The Uninvited (more)...

Retreating to a small indie after last year's largely disappointing Conan, Marcus Nispel started shooting Backmask last week. And the star? Brittany Curran will be doing the screaming.Curran's best-known for her TV work on TNT's Men Of A Certain Age, but she's not a stranger to horror either: she had a role in The Uninvited, and just finished shooting Captured. Here, she's part of a gang of teens who play a record backwards (older readers will recall these items as an elderly music format from ye olden days) and release an evil spirit that posesses them one-by-one. It's Rob Halford! We jest.Nispel, of course, previously made the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and the 2009 Friday The 13th instalment, so this won't be the first time he's slashed up some teenagers. Curran may want to keep in favour with him, since he'll next be looking for a feisty female lead...

We have the first plot synopsis, official photos, and some behind-the-scenes images from Captured. The movie recently wrapped up filming and deals with an escaped convict who goes after members of a rock band. Currently in post-production, a 2013 release date is planned. We’ll let readers know when more specific release information becomes available.
Synopsis: “A weekend getaway to shoot a music video turns into a nightmare for a Rock’n Roll band when they become the crazed obsession of an escaped convict. Departing home in an old decrepit van, packed in with all their instruments and dreams, friendships and lives are about to be savaged by an unsuspected betrayal. There are some people you don’t want to piss off during childhood, they might come back. But with a lot more baggage.”
The film was directed by Joe Arias and stars Brittany Curran (Backmask, The Uninvited), Julian Curtis, Kirsten Prout,...

“Conan The Barbarian” and horror franchise reboot specialist Marcus Nispel has found the Final Girl for his new teen-centric horror movie “Backmask”. The lucky gal is Brittany Curran, who has been cast as Reign, the female lead in Nispel’s film. “Backmask” is the story of “a group of teenagers that accidentally releases an evil spirit that starts to possess them one by one.” Besides Curran, IMDb.com has Gage Golightly, Nick Nicotera, and Nick Nordella also in the cast. Curran is most known for her recurring part on TNT’s dramedy “Men of a Certain Age”, but she’s done movies, including 2008′s “The Uninvited”. Nispel will direct from a script by Kirsten Elms for Voltage Pictures. The producers recently took the film overseas to hawk to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. Nispel, of course, is no stranger to horror movies featuring pretty young people fleeing from murderous masked killers.

I can't help it, I'm a sucker for intriguing key art that coincides with a horror film (or any movie for that matter). Many films have been overlooked simply because the graphic art totally sucks. This is not one of those cases (as you can see by the creepy poster we've got for you to feast your eyes on).
On May 1st, Phase 4 Films will reportedly be unleashing a flesh eating clown among other scary visuals, as the release of Scary or Die hits VOD.
Scary or Die stars horror genre actor Bill Oberst Jr. (Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies, Dismal, Scare Tactics), Corbin Bleu (Galaxy Quest), and Nikki Moore (Sorority Row), and is directed by Bob Badway, Michael Emanuel, and Igor Meglic.

Robin Lippin on Gerard Butler: I was casting "Attila," the miniseries, and it was an extremely hard role. We had to find someone who could carry the mini and have charisma and yet be able to exude leadership and a barbaric quality. He also had to have an amazing body and good looks (it is TV, after all). Gerry had been referred by the CD in London, and I brought him in. I felt he had it all, but the executive at the time wasn't convinced. He wanted me to keep looking and told me to go to Crunch, the gym where all the hotties worked out. I wanted to die. I mean, this was a powerful role and needed an amazing actor. I think the exec was worried about his accent.I fought really hard for him, and luckily the director and producers were behind him. I even offered to...

Fangoria and IFC Films are pleased to debut the trailer for The Uninvited.
Not to be confused with another "Uninvited" that was released earlier this year, Bob Badway's film follows a young woman, whose nightmarish past returns to trigger off a bizarre phobia she was once cured of; an intense fear of space, eased only by closeness to walls. She becomes a psychological survivalist when her remote house suddenly becomes a spiritual battleground, as evil forces gather to torture her during a night of terror.
Previously announced as a July 8th release, IFC will release the film this Wednesday, July 1st on their Festival Direct VOD service.
The Uninvited stars Marguerite Moreau and former Men at Work frontman Colin Hay. For full details, visit IFC Films' Official Site!

IFC Films gave Fango the scoop that it has picked up writer/director Bob Badway’s The Uninvited (no relation to the DreamWorks supernatural frightfest from earlier this year), and passed on a new exclusive photo, which you can see below. Previously announced as a DVD release by another company, the movie will now debut as a video-on-demand title this summer.
Produced by Michael Emanuel, The Uninvited stars Marguerite Moreau as a woman who believes she’s been cured of her crippling childhood terror of open spaces. Strange events in the new house she has moved into with her husband (former Men at Work frontman Colin Hay), however, bring that fear back to the surface.

As you know, we here at Fsr try to make it around to as many of the major film festivals as possible. We've brought you excellent coverage from Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca and of course, the best coverage of SXSW, our hometown fest. But even though we catch a lot of great fests, we don't make it to them all -- not yet, at least. One festival that we're sad to be missing this year is CineVegas in Las Vegas. While many of the fest's higher profile films are re-runs from Sundance and SXSW, there are a few hidden gems among their official selection. One such film is Easier With Practice, from writer/director Kyle Patrick Alvarez. It stars Brian Geraghty, who was sensational in this year's best film so far The Hurt Locker, as a man whose heart is opened and captured by a mystery and sexually aggressive woman who calls him late at night in his...

Like singer-dancers and actor-models, Chris Game is a hyphenate but of a less common variety. He's a casting director–director, and he thinks the job should be an industry standard. In his 14 years as a CD, Game has also directed several plays annually for the Elephant Theatre Company in Los Angeles. The actors he meets for casting assignments often end up in his plays, and the actors in his plays may find themselves in a film or commercial he is casting. "I try to run my life as a giant repertory company," said Game, whose eponymous casting business has filled roles in such films as The Uninvited and The Good Humor Man. New York casting directors Stuart Howard and Billy Hopkins agree. Howard has been working since the mid-1970s and has close to 40 Broadway casting credits, including August: Osage County and the new revival of West Side Story. He...

You know things are askew in Hollywood when Dean Cain joining a film warrants a mention in The Hollywood Reporter. I don’t really know how it’s possible, but for some reason the fact that Cain has signed on for Michael Emanuel’s Maneater is trade-worth information...
Maneater follows a former FBI profiler, now a small town sheriff, who begins to look into a series of murders derived from a local Native American legend. He soon discovers that the monster responsible may be himself.
Conrad Jenis (The Cable Guy), Walter Phalen (House of 1000 Corpses), Lacy Phillips (Pushing Twilight) and Stephen Lunsford will be joining Cain in Emanuel’s directorial debut. This is the second of ten planned independently financed films from Canal Street, the first being The Uninvited, which features most of the same cast.

Actor-producer Michael Emanuel (The Uninvited) is in preproduction on the thriller Maneater (announced exclusively on B-d last week on our indie section), which tells the story of an FBI profiler-turned-small-town sheriff who begins investigating a series of mysterious murders only to discover that the monster he's profiling might be himself. Emanuel co-wrote the script with John K. Anderson and will make the film his directorial debut. "It's a story that was told to me by an old Native American back in the late '70s," Emanuel said. "It's based on the Western Ojibwa (Chippewa) legend of the Windigo." "Maneater" is the second in a slate of 10 movies that Emanuel's Canal Street Films is producing with independent financing. It begins shooting July 30 around Los Angeles, though the producers are still casting the leads.
