my own experience
sanadiago2 June 2007
Being part of this show meant a lot, it was more than a T.V. show for all of us it was truly a mind opening and life changing experience. I have always been very optimistic about life I never held any kind of hate towards any kind of people no matter what their religion is or their ethnicity. But that does not mean that I did not curtsies governments, will lets say I started doing that after the show, and I came to relies that there is absolutely a hope for peace and world understanding. And we should never stop trying to make this world a better place to live in, and we should definitely quite blaming each other and pointing fingers at one another. I have read some reviews that said this show is all about America loving, will I can reassure you people its not. We have our arguments and we have our fights but then we sit down talk about it either figure things out to find a perfect compromise for both ideas or we all just agree to disagree. And that was one of the best solutions that I found if we don't have the same beliefs then fine everyone gets to have his own beliefs as long as no one is forcing the other to follow their well, in other words freedom of choice and belief. And all of us as humans we are the same, no matter how much we try to differentiate each other we are all the same. Sincerely, Sanad Karker

Young educated, Arab adults from middle class families take a road trip to experience American living.

Warning: Spoilers
This documentary on the Sundance Channel - On the Road in America. 4 young Arab adults (3 men, 1 woman) travel around America to experience the American way from many different point of views, lifestyles, and situations. Keep in mind, these young adults do not come from the poorest of neighborhoods in the Middle East. They are all college graduates, from middle to middle-class families. So I believe that their expectations and comfort level would be about what the average American might experience. I'm trying to keep an open mind, making note that through editing, one might draw incorrect perceptions of what truly is going through the minds of these individuals as they experience American living. The conclusion of the 3rd episode, 18 year old Sanad, an actor and Visual Communications major, explains his realization that so far, his experience has taught him that as humanity, we have the basic wants and needs, no matter where we live. We have our beliefs, love for our country, families & friends, we live and breath and die in the end. In the "teaser" to the upcoming episode, 22 year old, Ali is speaking with the producer about his longing for home and family. I'm excited to view the rest of the episodes and recommend that you watch this documentary.

love it

I think they were surprised to see real life American day-to-day. I hope the people in the middle east who see this can gain a better perspective on life here and who Americans really are. The idea is great and I would love to take part in a reverse situation. I would bet they were a little worried to come someplace where they probably thought they would be hated and strung up in the street. I know I would be a little worried to go over there as an American but the chances you take can mean everything. I'm sure these people will leave the same impact on us as they will on their own people and as their words spread hopefully the perspective of Americans will change for the better among the middle east. I would be just as curious to see if Americans where treated as kindly for the most part over there.

Four Very Narrow Minded Middle Eastern Youth
andie-redhead27 April 2009
I just watched the Chicago version. It's a good show but I think they have such a narrow mind. They assume that all Americans hate Middle Easterners, they think that we all have negative thoughts about what's going on in terms of the war and their people. They criticize our sports, our people, and most importantly, our thoughts.

Do they have any clue that there are a lot of Middle Eastern born people living happily in the States? Do they think that all Americans are white Christians? If so, they are DEAD wrong.

They learned the wrong things about us just like we learned the wrong things about them. The only different is that I-and many others- don't believe everything we are told and have our own mind and our own curiosity to look into things for ourselves.

In fact, I WANT a guy with a Middle Eastern culture/background. I never thought badly about people from over there and so I think these young kids that are in this documentary need to take a good step back and a good hard look around and STOP ASSUMING.
