Today, The Rolling Stones‘ debut album turned 60. Hats off to Mick Jagger and company for staying together this long against all odds! Here’s a look at their debut album’s triumphs and tragedies.
13. ‘I Just Want to Make Love to You’
The lively rhythm here is ruined by some questionable lyrics. In this song, Jagger compares himself to an enslaved person. It’s tasteless, but what would you expect from the same band that would later give us such racist atrocities as “Brown Sugar” and “Some Girls?” At least this song didn’t hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 like “Brown Sugar” did.
12. ‘You Can Make It If You Try’
Placed near the end of the album, “You Can Make It If You Try” is a self-empowerment song that feels tedious and endless. The Rolling Stones made it. They tried. This song didn’t help them get there.

Interviews with ‘brutally honest’ voters reveal strong support for Holocaust drama, setting stage for a potential Oscars upset against bookies’ favourite Oppenheimer
The Zone of Interest, the Holocaust drama directed by Jonathan Glazer and adapted from the novel by Martin Amis, could pull off a shock upset in the best picture Oscar race and beat Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, as a series of interviews with anonymous Oscar voters appears to indicate a surge of support for the film.
After the voting window for the Academy Awards closed on Tuesday, the intervening period before the results are announced on Sunday week is filled with fevered speculation. Much of the fuel is provided by anonymised interviews with Oscar voters, known as the Brutally Honest Oscar Ballots, in which real-life Academy members talk through how they arrived at their particular choices, and in doing so shed much light on how individual films and...

The first season of HBO’s True Detective series was a great addition to the prestige reputation of the brand’s ability to produce some of the best TV shows of all time. The show starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey was another acting showcase for the latter after he won the Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.
Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson in True Detective season 1
He was nominated for an Emmy for his incredible performance in the show. The second and third seasons however did not live up to the brilliance of the first season. While many fans considered the recent fourth season a return to form for the show, they still cannot accept the fact that it has a higher rating than the first season.

Britney Spears has set a release date for her anticipated memoir.
The “Toxic” singer’s “astonishingly moving story,” as per a press release, titled The Woman in Me, will be available beginning October 24, she revealed on Instagram Tuesday.
After multiple publishing houses fought over the memoir, it has been acquired by Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
“Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery,” Gallery Books Senior Vice President and Publisher, Jennifer Bergstrom, told People. “I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact — and will be the publishing event of the year. We couldn’t be more proud to help her share her story at last.”
Along with the announcement of the book’s release date, Spears also unveiled the cover.

It is always a time for celebration when we get a new Nicole Holofcener film, and that is especially true of her latest one that stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus. You Hurt My Feelings, which had its premiere Sunday night at Sundance, is the pair’s second collaboration, with 2013’s Enough Said co-starring the late James Gandolfini being the first. That film, and other Holofcener writing-directing efforts such as Friends with Money, Lovely & Amazing and perhaps my favorite, Please Give (not to forget the wonderful Can You Ever Forgive Me? which she co-wrote), focused on the quirky nature of our relationships with others in our lives. Holofcener just has always had a knack for getting right to the heart of things, often with a witty, wise and truthful touch.

Life is good for Justin Bieber. He just released his new single "Honest," he and Hailey Bieber are happily married and he's in the middle of his Justice World Tour. But getting to this place took some time, and the singer opened up about his path during the May 2 episode of The Ebro Show. "It's a journey," Justin, 28, said. "I mean, I remember when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage was going to fix all my problems and it didn't. It just kind of was a reflection of, like, 'You're a bit of a hypocrite man. Like, you want your wife to do something that you're not doing.' And it's like, I mean, it's hard...

‘Honest Thief’ Review: Liam Neeson, Mad as Hell Again, as a Bank Robber Who Tries to Turn Himself In
Here’s the kind of what-were-they-thinking? moment that can throw you right out of a movie. Tom Carter (Liam Neeson), a bank robber extraordinaire, is about to reveal to Annie (Kate Walsh), the woman he’s in love with, that he’s not the man she thought he was. He’s got no choice but to come clean, because she arrives at his hotel at a rather inopportune moment — just as he and the corrupt FBI agent he’s in the middle of pummeling spill onto the sidewalk from the floor above. She sees him sock the agent with that I’m-going-to-put-my-fist-through-your-head ferocity that no one can summon quite like Liam Neeson. Then he shuttles her into his Jeep, and they escape with bad guys shooting at them, shattering the car’s rear window. Tom’s got a bloody bruise on his temple, and as he leads a high-speed chase through the streets of Boston,...

The Conjuring films are great horror movies that do an extremely great job at telling terrifying stories and scaring the ever-living shit out of audiences. But, that doesn't mean there aren't aspects of these two films that can't be made fun of! For example, the franchise's signature touch of extra long sequences of tension-building silence. In these waning days of 2015, our media tends to look backward at all the great stuff that came down during the previous year. That’s because there’s damn little that happens between Christmas Eve and New Year’s morn and people like me are tasked with filling space. This plays nicely with my powerful sense of cynicism. Hey, it’s a living.
But what the hell. For all practical purposes 2015 is already history (and I hope that comment doesn’t come back to bite me in my ass). Instead, in a fit of optimism I’d rather talk about what I’m looking forward to in the new year.
When it comes to the mother medium, I eagerly await the return of Bitch Planet, easily my favorite new series of 2015. Actually, I have yet to stop being pissed at Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine De Landro for having the audacity to take a vacation.

New Tricks Season Nine
New Tricks has become one of the staples of British TV over the last decade and its success is hardly surprising given the quality of the cast. Regulars include Dennis Waterman (Minder), James Bolam (The Beiderbecke Affair) and of course Amanda Redman (Honest). The show is a humorous drama about a group of haggard old cops who are tasked with solving cold cases. The evidence is typically scarce, the witnesses are dead, senile or unwilling to talk and aside from the other obstacles they face, the squad members have to try and get along with each other. When they’re in the mood, the team are quite effective but all too often DS Sandra Pullman (Redman) is forced to bang heads together to get things done.
New Tricks Season Nine starts with the kind of jaw dropping moment that fans of long-running shows dread.

A new featurette has arrived for Starz's upcoming "Da Vinci's Demons," in which we meet a 15th century version of Hillary Clinton: the elegant, beautiful, and deceptively powerful Clarice Orsini as portrayed by Lara Pulver.
Orsini is the wife of Lorenzo Medici (played by Elliot Cowan) and part of the ultimate Florentine “power couple” in David S. Goyer’s new Starz Original Series “Da Vinci’s Demons.” Lara Pulver (“True Blood,” “Sherlock,” “Robin Hood”), who plays Orsini, compares her character to “a modern-day Hillary Clinton or a Wallis Simpson – a powerhouse of a woman who is a devoted wife and mother and yet, a very forward-thinking, intelligent, driven woman.”

We're just a month away from the April 12th debut of "Da Vinci's Demons" on Starz, and here's a new teaser for the series created by David S. Goyer that presents a never-before-seen portrayal of one of the most infamous historical figures of all time… Leonardo da Vinci.
"Leonardo was a transformational figure—the original Renaissance man and the kind of genius that only emerges every thousand years or so,” said Goyer. “What I like about this image is that it embodies a lot of the show's themes. It's aspirational. The triumph of the human spirit over ignorance and repression—the audacity of imagination."

We're still not sure how Dread-worthy Starz's "Da Vinci's Demons" is going to be, but with David Goyer at its helm, we'll keep covering it for a while at least. Here's an update from Goyer at the ongoing Television Critics Association's winter press tour along with more on A&E's "Bates Motel."
Per Deadline, Goyer said that his first historical period project would be about 85% historically accurate. “He had a pretty incredible life we didn’t have to embellish as much as you’d think,” Goyer said of Da Vinci, portrayed by Tom Reilly. Goyer pointed out that though Da Vinci is best known as an artist and scientist, he was also thought to be a great horseman. Turning Da Vinci into a TV superhero was not too difficult: “He’s kind of superhero-y anyway.”
Goyer described the tone of the show as historical but “viewed through a modern prism,...
