Julie Andrews has full confidence in Emily Blunt's ability to do justice to the role of Mary Poppins.
While Dick Van Dyke announced he will be returning for the sequel, Andrews tells Et's Leanne Aguilera that she doesn't think she'll be a part of it, but she is thrilled to be able to pass the torch to the Golden Globe-winning actress.
Watch: First Look at Emily Blunt as 'Mary Poppins'
"Emily Blunt is going to play Mary Poppins and I am a great fan," Andrews says. "I think she is terrific and a perfect pick."
Disney's upcoming sequel to the classic 1964 film is set in Depression-era London, where a grown-up Jane and Michael Banks are visited by Mary Poppins after their family suffers a personal loss. Poppins uses her magical skills to help Jane, Michael and Michael's three children rediscover the joy missing in their lives.

It took 25 years of working in film and TV, but comedian Michael Showalter has landed what could be his career-defining role: indie filmmaker.

Showalter’s third feature as a director, “The Big Sick,” is one of the most anticipated movies at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. A dramatic comedy written by actor-writer Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily Gordon and based on their real-life courtship, the film stars Nanjiani, Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter, Ray Romano, and Anupam Kher.
Produced by Judd Apatow and Barry Mendel, “The Big Sick” centers on aspiring comedian Kumail and grad student Emily (Kazan), whose romance causes a rift with Kumail’s traditional Muslim parents. Emily then discovers she has a mysterious illness, leaving Kumail to navigate the medical crisis with her parents Beth and Terry (Hunter and...

Let’s start with this obvious point: few cities need another repertory outlet less than New York City, which provides enough decent-to-outstanding options every week (or day) to fully occupy any caring customer. And so when a new theater, Metrograph, was announced this past August, the largely enthusiastic response — people taking note of a good location, a dedication to celluloid presentations and new independent releases, its strong selection of programmers, and other services (e.g. a restaurant and “cinema-dedicated bookshop”) — went hand-in-hand with some people’s skepticism, or at least a certain raising of the eyebrows. The question of necessity was premature, but such is the influx of available material that it should inevitably come up.
It’s safe to say their first selections silenced those skeptics. Metrograph’s slate is strong in a way that’s uncommon; one could say it’s exactly the sort that a cinephile with...

As Michael is pushed closer and closer to the edge by Burke, I wasn't sure what the breaking point was going to be - but we found that all the rules changed by the end of "Brothers in Arms."
I freely admit that I am/was a card carrying member of the Randall Burke Fan Club. Regardless of his methods, he showed Michael more loyalty in his final moments that the CIA has in the last seven years.
How could you not like him? His team is his family, just like Michael, and he was willing to do anything (including blowing himself up) to keep his word and not leave Michael and Sonja behind in the hands of the Russians.
Though he wasn't around long, Burke will be missed. I really liked how he was a "Yin" to Strong’s "Yang." Where Strong is by the book and technically the “good guy,...

It took seven years to get another season of "Arrested Development," and only eight hours for fans to burn through all fifteen new episodes. And now that the dust has settled on one of the most hyped television seasons in recent memory, series creator Mitch Hurwitz has had some time to reflect on how it all came together, the massive response to the show and, just as crucially, what happens next on "Arrested Development."
HuffPost Canada TV spoke to Hurwitz about his future plans for the Bluths, his thoughts on all the attention and scrutiny the long-delayed Season 4 received, and Bob Loblaw's Canadian connection.
HuffPost TV: In Canada, there's a grocery store chain called Loblaws. Was that in any way inspiration for the name Bob Loblaw [Scott Baio] character?
Mitch Hurwitz: You know, the Bob Loblaw thing came from a Canadian who pitched it in the room who said it was his father's joke.

Now that America has had time to absorb the new season of Arrested Development (and catch up on some sleep), series creator/executive producer Mitchell Hurwitz (him?) spoke to reporters on a conference call today about the 15 episodes released on Netflix, the future of the franchise, and more. The highlights:
• Hurwitz said that a variety of mediums could have been — and can be used — for continuing the saga of the Bluths: “Give us the canvas and let’s see what we come up with. If it were a movie canvas, we would absolutely tailor to that, but the life of...

TBS is prepping to put a new spin on the quiz show and they've hired not one, but two comedians to host the series.
D.L. Hughley and Michael Ian Black will co-host "Trust Me, I'm a Game Show Host," a game show in which the two hosts duel to deceive contestants. The series comes from Mark Burnett's One Three Media and London-based Monkey.
In the series, Hughley and Black will each present a contestant with a bizarre and seemingly implausible fact. One of the facts will be true, while the other will be a flat-out lie. It's up to the super sleuth contestant to determine which host is telling the truth. If a player can prove themselves to be an ace lie detector, they'll go home with a pocketful of cash.

In the "Survivor" previouslies, they act like the Corinne blindside is the biggest thing that's ever happened. Let's hope not, because if so -- this season is going to go downhill (even moreso than it already is).
Madeline
The next morning, Phillip feels like he's sitting pretty, but so does Reynold. Well, one of them is going to be disappointed by episode's end. Malcolm preens a bit and he, in fact, does seem to be sitting the prettiest. It'll be interesting to see if another big move goes down, or if somebody boring like Sherri is voted out tonight.
Later, it ... is Phillip hitting on Sherri? Lordy. He assigns her a name for "Stealth R Us" -- "Tenacity." She privately thinks it's absolutely bonkers, but she knows it's in her best interest to go along with "her Shamar" on this tribe. Hee. Maybe Sherri is actually like a double-secret-probation awesome player.

Question: Got any Private Practice scoop? —Jamie
Ausiello: Something happens during the season premiere that tickles the funny bone of the man upstairs, because sources confirm that the title of the hour is “God Laughs.” I can’t imagine he’ll be giggling in the opening minutes, however. I hear the episode picks up right where the finale left off — with Pete on the floor clutching his chest.
Question: Is there anything new on Supernatural?...

The Ecny Awards, celebrating the best of the comedic performing arts in New York, were presented Monday night, March 8, at the city's Comix comedy club. Fifteen awards were given out, in categories ranging from best male standup comedian to outstanding achievement in the field of tweeting. For the third year in a row, Jon Friedman ("The Rejection Show," "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon") hosted the show. "It's weird to choose a winner in comedy," Friedman said before the ceremony, comparing the Ecny Awards with the previous night's Academy Awards. "Comedy is so subjective, and any comic can simply have an off night on any given night. Or, as a comic, you can connect with certain people and not at all with others, no matter what day or night it is. Whereas with a film—say, for best picture—that film is exactly the same every time it's shown."Among the...

Our brothers and sisters over at TV Squad have busted through the boob tube and brought with them the following juicy bits of must-see eye candy. Crack open some Slurm and rejoice! The new episodes of Futurama are going to be hitting Comedy Central on June 24! Alas, Comedy Central has decided to cancel Michael and Michael Have Issues, the show which starred Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter, both veterans of The State. Smallville has been renewed for a tenth season. Can we expect to see Tom Welling finally don the famous red and blue tights? Neil Patrick Harris is one of the hardest working guys in show business, and now it's got him feeling blue. Specifically, he has signed on as voice talent for the upcoming Smurfs movie. Will & Grace star Deborah Messing is taking another stab at series television. Wright Vs. Wrong will be a sitcom featuring Messing as a conservative politician.

'Michael and Michael Have Issues,' the behind the scenes sketch comedy fest from 'State' alumni Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter was one of the funniest "no surprise" shows in Comedy Central's line-up in a long time.
So it should probably serve as "no surprise" that Comedy Central has put the kibosh on it.
Showalter sent out the awful truth in Twitter form yesterday. Black also followed up Showalter's sad announcement with his own Tweet that contains a certain word that starts with "F" and ends with "K" and it isn't "fullback."
I was a fan and I looked forward to the second season, but now I'll just have to settle with the inevitable buck squeezing DVD release. You guys had me at "bunny stomping."

Remember 5-On? Devin Clark's animated alien and robot obsessed news show on Atom? Well it was a year ago this week that news of Comedy Central ordering up Clark's Ugly Americans for a pilot. Now the pilot turned into pickup with the series set for a March 2010 debut on the cable network and a sneak peek (below) via the Atom blog shows hints of the monsters-living in a modern world. As a web series, the 8-episode 5-On (above) debuted back in June of 2007 with an intrepid reporter, Alan Whiter, interviewing “five of anything about everything"—five aliens, five robots, five monsters. Comedic writers Nick Kroll (Cavemen) and John Mulaney wrote and voiced the series along with Clark. Ugly Americans is another example of Comedy Central tapping its web comedy arm, Atom, as a form of development pipeline. Already it showcases the best of the online comedy site weekly on air via its AtomTV block,...

Some people cringe when you refer to the web as a development ground (or minor leagues) for TV. And rightly so, the moniker is too limiting for what amounts to a super-fragemented online community of millions of avid surfers. Not every web series is meant for TV. That doesn't stop network development execs from scouring video sites for the latest tweet-worthy vids. With tonight's premiere of Secret Girlfriend on Comedy Central, we have the latest data point to test the development lab theory. What started as a mobile phone series, that was later released as a web series through Atomic Wedgie, was able to catch the eye of development execs enough to order up six half-hour episodes. The show's creators, Jay Rondot and Ross Novie, have been at the online content game for a while, finding some success with their series The Rascal for Sony's Crackle as well as the...
