So much potential, but it failed to deliver - Disappointed!
Bob_Harris_UK10 August 2021
So much potential, but it failed to deliver.

The music was good in most parts, but the story was let-down by the script. Some great stars in this, such as Leslie Ash, Toyah Wilcox and others, but it was just poorly written.

As a Brit myself, I was thoroughly disappointed with this movie.

Missing some of the Mod cons.....
FlashCallahan25 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Life couldn't be better for entrepreneur and Mod, Danny.

That is until he's introduced to Mad Mike, an unhinged underworld mobster who is determined to coerce Danny into pulling off an illegal drugs runoff him.....

To be someone is one of those wannabe gangster films that were rife in the late nineties and early naughtiest, thanks to one Guy Ritchie.

We get the smug voiceover, we get the silly introductions to all the major characters in the film, either by explanation featuring a flashback, or for some unknown reason, by a song from the character in question.

This is supposed to be zingy and fresh, a lads adventure for the lads, with a couple of people who were in the original Quadrophenia, to get fans of that film yearning to see this. The problem is, it ain't Quadrophenia.

After the boring introductions that try and make perverts and prostitutes look cool, we get into the meat of the film, with a villain who 'SHOUTS REALLY LOUD' to be terrifying, needs our main character to pick up some pills that were hidden in the Isle Of White,

Luckily for our gang, some silly Mod festival is happening, so they won't draw too much attention.

Add bent coppers, hardiest, and a haunted tomb, you get a very strange film that just seems like it's trying too hard to be something that it cannot be, a film that can stand along side Lock, Stock..... and be fresh and add something new to this, very worn out, sub-genre.

On the plus side, some of the music is pretty good, and the haunted tomb scene did raise a few smiles, but don't be deceived by the DVD cover and quotes, it's a pretty bland affair.....

Still not sure how this ended!
sadie_baines13 August 2021
Bit disappointed with this.. was quite looking forward to the storyline, and parts of it added up, but mad Mike was just utterly weird from the get go, definitely "mad", and nice to see some old faces (and lesley ash's new face).. funny in parts, and utter rubbish in others..

The car scenes looked far too fake. They left sharp Steve in the crypt and he suddenly turned up later on. And the ending, could have been far better explained and just felt threw together and that'll do.. all the build up for about a 5 minute finish.. shame.. could have been quite good, just needed a good ending and it spoilt it..

Dig the new breed?
IggyStoooge11 November 2021
Dig a hole and bury it deep. A shoestring budget doesn't need to determine the quality of a film but in this case it does. Everything about this film is inept. Woeful script, cardboard cut-out characters, bizarre music interludes. The original Quadies appear to have been promised a few lines if they turned up on set. They shouldn't have bothered. The highlight is pantomime villain 'Mad Mike' whose facial contortions have to be seen to be believed. Try 'The Pebble and the Boy' before this, I've not seen it but it can't be worse than this tosh.

To be no one
ianajjames20 November 2021
Quite frankly the worst film I've ever seen, and I watched Cats. The acting is laughable at best and the green screen for the car driving scenes looks like it was done on a zx spectrum.

The true shame is I wanted to enjoy a bit of quadrophonic related nostalgia. This isn't it.

I almost handed in my fishtail after watching this
pbmnn-939281 July 2022
Quite possibly the worst, hands down worst, movie I have ever seen. The 'plot', the cliches, the stereotypes, the acting, the whole thing made me contemplate handing in my fishtail and retiring from the scene. I created an account just to review this. It is so bad. So, so very bad. I have a TV175, and a SX200 so I speak with authority lmfao. Up the Mods! Down with this movie.

And it's a no
damianstevens-1563028 March 2022
I had expectations.

With a cast like that, it should have been a claiming moment.

It was pretty poor to be honest. Turned it off after 40mins.

I don't really have five hundred characters left. Is that I with you?

Awful.....
jamgood-842-44808419 October 2021
Just awful. The best bit about this film was when it finished and I could throw the DVD in the bin. I wouldn't even grace a Charity Shop shelf with this garbage.

Terrible cast, terrible dialogue, atrocious acting and I use the word acting lightly.

average lightweight gangster story set in the world of the mods
info-59189 August 2021
Firstly, to be someone, has nothing to to with Quadrophenia. The book, from which it gets its title, is a sequel to the famous Who film, but the movie (while using some of the actors) is not connected in any way, and shares none of the characters.

They storyline follows the main character, Danny (Sam Gittins), who gets in some trouble with Gangsters. He gets together his friends in a plan to stitch up the criminal element that threatens his family.

Overall, the movie is pretty lightweight. None of the drama is serious enough to provide any threat to the characters. The plot is pretty unbeleivable, and some of the characters are pretty thin.

That said, for a lightweight gangster film, with mods and scooters, it was ok. Its sort of interesting to see people like Toyah Wilcox and Leslie Ash , though their roles are fairly short. There's some pretty average attempts at humour, and the films budget is stretched at times, though its not cheap looking and the production values aren't too bad. The film is shot well with some good band scenes and great shots of scooters. There is some pretty over the top product placement, to the point where the film at times looks it has commercials inserted into it... though cheekily, its actually referenced in the film.

Kudos to Sam Gittins who was actually really decent in his role... almost channelling a touch of Michael Caine - and definitely lifted the film. The soundtrack by the band featured in the film, The Ks is great as well.

Definitely watchable for those into scooters, and people who like Guy Ritchies work (though its not anything that should worry him as king of the English gangster genre.

6/10.

Shame on everyone who took part in this movie!
theatomsplits12 August 2021
Ok, I admit it, as an old scooter riding mod I was suckered into buying the DVD. Within 5 minutes of watching it I regretted that decision. Despite the obvious potential of having a number of the Quadrophenia cast this film is possibly the worst film I have ever seen. And that includes the 10 minutes of "the sex lives of the potato men' starring Johnny Vegas.

Nothing to do with the mod or scootering scene, just a shameless attempt to cash in on the history of Quadrophenia with a 'comedy caper' that, simply, stinks.

Shame on everyone connected with this film.

IT'S DIFFERENT
sionendaf13 August 2021
It might not be the best and it might not be as good as quadrophenia. But if you watch the movie it is npthing to do with Quadrophenia or mods in general it is a story that you watch with the concept of mods in the movie to have a different direction of how a movie like this would usually go. It was really funny and i love to see a mod film coming out to remind us of the best subculture in the world. It might not be the rebirth of mods but i loved watching it and definetly being a 17 year old watching this makes me wanna go back to the 60s to be a mod or even as you may be able to see in the movie you can still be a mod in this day and age.

It's definitely not Quadrophenia, but the music's ok
dazza-8095527 January 2022
It's a poor man's gangster film but not as bad as some think and not a comedy as such but It got me through a wet and windy afternoon ok. The acting tho is pretty awful especially wannabee hard man Mad Mike. Cringworthingly bad!! The kids in Nativity were definitely a great deal better. The 'Faces' from the 70s and 80s era do a better job. Toyah still looks good but a once beautiful Leslie Ash looks unrecognizable. Spitting Image says hello!! If you like The Jam, Sooters and the Mod culture you should try The Pebble and the Boy. Its well worth a watch.

Fraudrophenia
buster-3958911 December 2021
I remember this being touted as some sort of sequel to Quadrophenia.

It is, of course, nothing of the sort, what it is is a third rate wannabe Guy Ritchie gangster movie with some scooters thrown in.

Is it still worth watching though?

No, it's utter, utter drivel and genuinely best avoided.

The worst film you'll ever see.
jlynchtooting24 January 2022
The title references one of the greatest songs ever written which is what pulled me in on a Sunday morning with a couple of hours to kill. But look, no complaints , because when you read through the cast AND STILL watch the thing then you get everything you deserve. This is so bad it should be a crime , Toyah , Leslie Ash , Mark Wingett , Jesus . There is not one saving grace factor in this , the minor actors are worse than the so called 'leads' . It's dreadful , it's absolutely the worst film I'll ever see.

Don't bother
davadc20 August 2021
Possibly the worse film I have ever seen, wasn't funny so do not know why it's in the comedy genre. Plot was poor. The end, well I think even the film makers gave up to be honest, I should have turned off after 10 mins but gave it a go as I thought it would get better and couldn't get any worse, but believe me it did. But make your own mind up, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Nah
dcarroll7412 August 2021
A wanna be, that couldn't be, even if it tried. A 60's style movie that was out of date, even before the edit was finished. Sometimes copying works, in this case it didn't, badly. Michael Caine would turn in his grave, except he ain't hit the bucket just yet, this excuse of a moive, did.

Terrible
John-the-Buff27 November 2021
I'll keep this short as possible. This is a truly awful film. Dreadful. Woeful. Shockingly bad and pitiful beyond words. The "acting" is absolute cringeworthy.

Sorry, only lasted 15 min
phanes-9483110 August 2021
This is a lame attempt to imitate Quadrophenia, a great movie. When we got to Leslie Ash, a face pumped with botox and the same with the once love of my life Toyah, combined with men with man buns and blokes dancing around wearing lipstick, I lost all interest. The UK 60's, one of the greatest periods ever, taken the p out of, sorry, null points from me.

Warning: Spoilers
The scenes that involve driving are impressive..visually, better storyline on the back of a penguin. The 'villain' got more teeth than a dolphin...unless you've watched every other film on the planet don't waste your time.

Forget Quadrophenia before you watch this.
gedpurvis-332-65979915 August 2021
This is not a direct sequel to the brilliant Quadrophenia.

So don't compare it.

What you are left with is a fun, comedic, well made criminal story set in the mod universe. The new cast and the original cast are clearly having a ball and its great to see most of the older cast together again playing different characters.

Personally I liked it a lot because I understand the concept and I am glad it was made.

If Quadrophenia was from Wish
gornalgremlin26 December 2021
This has to be one of the worst films I have ever seen!

Seriously, it really is that bad.. Terrible overacting, Terrible non existant plot.

A few nods to Quadrophenia and a generic Guy Richie gangster plot.

What utter rubbish
john_nicholls512 August 2021
As this film is supposed to be set in the era of the mods in the early 60s can someone please explain to me as someone who grew up in the early 60s with a sister who was a mod, why there are wind turbines in the fields, why the road sweep is wearing an hi Viz coat. Why does the sweep use a Stanley sweeping brush made in 2018. Then pick a 21st century £10 note up. Why are the mods wearing full face helmets. Why are the passengers in the Jag wearing seat belts. Why do the yardis drive a 2004 transit van. Why do the police turn up in 4x4 vehicles. Why is the music not from the era. Then add actors from Quadraphenia hoping to make it a little realistic. If they are going to try and make a film that is in a era past then at least try and make it authentic. Poor story line.

Absolute Toilet
englishmandan25 January 2022
Was hoping for a nice "British Film" but this was trash. Was trying to be too much like a Guy Ritchie film. Storyline was sad and the acting was subpar to be honest. This film was so bad, it made me sign up on IMBD just so I could write a review.
