Exclusive: After six years as a manager at More/Medavoy, Stephen Belden is going it alone, having launched his own management and production company, Death Wish Entertainment.
“The dream,” Belden said, “has always been to work with a core group of clients that I absolutely adore as artists and as human beings and to be able to produce projects with and for those clients. With this company I get to focus on exactly that and I couldn’t be more excited.”
Belden explained that the name Death Wish is “a tongue-in-cheek nod to the fact that it’s harder than ever to be working in the entertainment industry right now,” underscoring at the same time that he “couldn’t be more optimistic about what the future holds for the up and coming generation of actors, writers, directors, and producers that I work with.”
Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to those at his former company.

The holidays were dominated by two movie musicals — “Wonka” and “The Color Purple” — and just two weeks into January, we get a third one. “Mean Girls” is likely to not only be the biggest movie of the extended MLK Jr. weekend, but of the entire month. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Twenty years after Tina Fey‘s influential comedy “Mean Girls” introduced the world to the elitist high school clique known as the Plastics, with a cast that included Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lizzy Caplan and Amanda Seyfried, “Mean Girls” returns to theaters, this time as a musical transposed from a successful run on Broadway.

1999 was the apex of teen girl cinema, with over a dozen new releases now hailed in "girl world" as seminal classics. But that year also brought the financial juggernaut of "American Pie," and Hollywood realized that there was serious money to be made with boy-centered sex comedies. Pair that with the horrific tragedy at Columbine High School, and suddenly problems like a boy pretending to like you for a payday felt frivolous, and edgier fare felt too dangerous to be entertaining. Teen girl movies didn't outright disappear, but they certainly fell out of popularity and became niche, "chick flick" fare more than ever. The genre has never fully recovered and continues to fight for respect and relevance 25 years later. Fortunately, there have been culture-shifting pop cultural juggernauts that remind Hollywood (and society at large) that teen girls are and will forever be the true tastemakers.

“While Max will not be moving forward with a third season of Our Flag Means Death, we are so proud of the joyous, hilarious, and heartfelt stories that creator David Jenkins, Taika Waititi, Rhys Darby, Garrett Basch, Dan Halsted, Adam Stein, Antoine Douaihy, and the entire superb cast and crew brought to life. We also thank the dedicated fans who embraced these stories and built a gorgeous, inclusive community surrounding the show,” a spokesperson for Max said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

At the time, she shared, “[The Sex Lives of College Girls] moved me out to LA and introduced me to some of my favorite people. 2 and a half years later — it’s given me y’all and this community. A lot of queer work gets belittled — but playing Leighton has changed my life. I love who I am 10x more than I did before knowing her. I hope she gave y’all a little bit of that too. she’s such a tiny part of representation but even the tiny parts count. I wouldn’t be half the person I am without her and y’all.

Well, they did it. Since “Game of Thrones” ended in 2019, HBO has faced persistent questions, year in and year out, over how it will survive without its most profitable franchise. The scrutiny died down a bit in 2022, after “House of the Dragon” debuted to dragon-sized numbers, but the network’s exclusive focus on its first spinoff left a few doubters unsatisfied. “Ok, sure,” they conceded. “You kept the franchise going. But what happens next? The scale of the production still makes it unreasonable to expect new episodes every year — why not green light more shows? Aren’t you leaving money on the table? Shouldn’t we be getting a new edition of ‘Game of Thrones’ every year, every six months, or every quarter?”
Last year proved HBO could survive just fine without a “Walking Dead”-flood of production from its tentpole, and now, as we get ready for a more-or-less full 2024 slate of HBO shows,...

Almost exactly one year after HBO Max returned to Prime Video, Max is now also available on YouTube’s streaming hub as well.
There was a time when the erstwhile streaming service known as HBO Max was pulled from non-company-owned platforms in an effort by WarnerMedia to keep all of the streaming revenue (and data) generated from the service to itself. After 5 million people reportedly signed up for the service via Prime Video Channels following its May 2020 launch, HBO Max left Prime Video in August 2021. However, after WarnerMedia was acquired by Discovery in spring 2022, the service returned to the streaming hub almost exactly one year ago.
On Tuesday, it was announced that HBO Max’s successor Max has now found itself on another streaming aggregator, YouTube’s Primetime Channels. The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer will be available for a la carte subscriptions beginning on Friday, Dec. 15. Primetime Channels allows consumers...

When Marlee Matlin began her career 35 years ago, she says there was “nothing” in terms of accessibility in the awards industry space. But that’s begun to change, especially following her film Coda’s best picture win in 2022, including at the 2023 Oscars, where she saw a “significant improvement.”
“I’ve seen changes in award shows and how they are perceived by people who attend them, by producers, by the people who make the decisions as to what to present on the air — all the little things,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Coda really was a game changer and made a huge impact in terms of equity, accessibility, and just how people are perceived in general.”

Set in 1763, “Love, Courage and the Battle for Bushy Run” is a historical drama set against the backdrop of one of the most defining moments in American history, the battle of Bushy Run. Dave Alan Johnson (“Christmas with Tucker”) and Larry A. McClean (“Pacific Rim”) direct from a screenplay by Charlie Richards (“House Rules”).

“As Native tribes, driven by fear of British retaliation, unite under the leadership of Ottawa Chief Pontiac, the film explores the unconventional and brutal tactics employed in their quest to capture Fort Pitt,” reads the logline.

The battle unfolds during the Pontiac’s War in the aftermath of Britain’s 1763 triumph over France when a clash of cultures and strategies in the American Colonies took tensions to new heights.
“As Native tribes, driven by fear of British retaliation, unite under the leadership of Ottawa Chief Pontiac, the film explores the unconventional and brutal tactics employed in their quest to capture Fort Pitt,” reads the logline.

‘The Queen of My Dreams’ Review: A Charming and Fanciful Debut Tackles Mother-Daughter Relationships
Fawzia Mirza’s charming debut The Queen of My Dreams begins with a familiar and heartbreaking revelation. “I used to worship my mother,” our protagonist Azra (Amrit Kaur, The Sex Lives of College Girls) says through voiceover. “I thought she was perfect. I tried to be like my mother, but I wasn’t.”
As with most daughters navigating fractious relationships with their mothers, Azra’s entry into adulthood coincided with the shattering realization that her mother is only human. The woman who guided her since infancy and counseled her through challenging moments carries her own traumas. She doesn’t always understand Azra and, perhaps most upsettingly, she might not want to.
The Queen of My Dreams is Mirza’s take on a recognizable theme. It joins a formidable batch of films exploring mother-daughter relationships this festival season, a group that includes Raven Jackson’s gorgeous and poetic film All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt...
