When I knew about the new Coronavirus, I went directly to netflix to re-watch this episode. It contains simple quick explanation about the gobal health crisis we're in thanks to this new pandemic.
When I first watched on November, I tought: "Thats scary as hell, it could happen anytime" but I was thinking.. Maybe 5 or 10 years. I didn't knew this was going to happen NEXT MONTH.
Very nice documentary. Timing was excepcional. Warning. SPOILERS.

This episode aged like fine wine. It is incredible how we can predict something right before it happens. The episode feels like it's a prank made after the covid-19 outbreak already started, but it's not. The episode showed exactly what happened, it's predictions were barely wrong. For anyone interested in predictions of the future which came true or for anyone who wants to understand more about past pandemics as well as how infectious they were and how they were handled: watch this episode. It's very good, informative and straight to the point. If all videos explaining and analysing coronavirus were this well done and researched I'm sure there would be little to no Corona-Conspiracy Theoriests in this world.

Simulation shows a flu like virus emerging near Wuhan China and killing 30 million people over 6 months.
Likely to originate in a meat market.

Watched this at end of 2019 before any news about Covid. At the time I thought well at least the experts know how to deal with it. However I was not accounting for the ineptitude of our own UK government to try and quell the disease. It's blatantly clear in this short documentary that the way through a pandemic is to close borders and decease travel for everyone. So infuriated that we are still going through this and it's getting worse. Everyone should watch this.

Sitting in self isolation, six months after the films release, I can confirm, normal life changed beyond recognition. People (governments) were never going to take a pandemic seriously until it happened; It was always going to be someone else's problem and unlikely to happen on their watch. Time will tell what the full effect of CoViD19 had on the world's population and how well we prepare for the next one.

The timing for this episode is amazing: released in November 2019 and within months Covid-19 was a reality to the world. Watching this in hindsight (it's now October 2022) does make it eerily on-the-money. Even the origin of Covid-19, a bat in a wet market, is mentioned as one of the likely causes of the next pandemic.
Even the selection of interviewees is quite canny. The appearance of Bill Gates is definitely going to trigger the conspiracy theorists.
As far as the details go, the episode does a great job at explaining how animal-human mutated viruses, zoonotic viruses, form and spread and how they can be combated. Some great examples are covered, e.g. SARS, The Plague.

So did nobody notice the irony here this episode comes out before the pandemic and then sits there and talks about how multiple countries including CHINA hint hint we're talking about creating proteins in the human body to mimic those of viruses to create vaccines faster and lo and behold coronavirus shows up which is somehow killing everybody and has completely pushed the flu into the background because the flu isn't killing anybody this year apparently although the numbers are faked and nobody can give us a straight answer on anything I smell something that's fishy. Seems to me like the world is one big petri dish at the moment we're just a guinea pig waiting for the results. And the sheep just keep eating the grass.

I am watching this again oh my god they already knew what is going to happen even the pats in the chinese animals market were hightlighted as the root of the new pandemic, the world is looking after football more than health.. Bill Gates should be the WHO Leader it took them how many months and deaths to announce it as pandemic.. World is not safe

Solid, well produced episode. Finally an episode of "Explained" that is not produced by feminist/social activists -- every other one tries to "balance" history by singling out contribution by women and/or preaching on subjugation/victimization of this or that group.

Good information, data, and "inconvenient truths", particularly about what was learned from the forensic studies of SARS-CoV-1 and not applied to SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19. Definitely an engaging and well presented episode.
