It's a sad day for fans of the Peacock series Hysteria!, led by stars like Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, and, of course, Ash himself, Bruce Campbell. Variety exclusively reports that Peacock has canceled the show after its one and (now only) season.
Hysteria! was an exciting thrill ride of a series, perfect for a Halloween binge-watch, but thankfully, the ending is mostly conclusive, though it did leave seeds for a potential follow-up season if it were to get renewed. The odds of the show being picked up or saved by another platform also seem unlikely, as Hysteria! didn't gain much traction at Peacock. Similarly, Peacock also canceled its other new 2024 horror series Teacup, so this latest cancellation news doesn't come as much of a shock.
As noted by Variety, it's hard to indicate what the viewership numbers were for shows like Teacup and Hysteria! because the streamer doesn't release that...

Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. But then Ortega allegedly asked for a substantial pay raise – and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. Landon dropped out the of the project soon after. So Scream 7 has been re-developed, Campbell has signed on to return as franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, back in the lead role, while Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original Scream, directs the film from a screenplay by 2022’s Scream...

“Dog Man” is expected to lead the box office pack as two newcomers, Universal’s action comedy “Love Hurts” and Sony’s gory slasher “Heart Eyes,” join the fray.
In what’s expected to be another chilly winter weekend for cinemas, “Love Hurts” and Heart Eyes” are each targeting single-digit debuts of $7 million to $8 million. That should leave “Dog Man,” Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s family film about a police officer who becomes surgically fused to his faithful pup after getting injured on the job, to lead again with $19 million to $22 million in its second outing.
This won’t be the slowest Super Bowl box office on record — that dreadful distinction belongs to 2024’s haul of $42 million across all films, led by “Argylle” and “Lisa Frankenstein.” But movie theater attendance tends to stall around the weekend of the big game, which is regularly the most-watched television event of the year.

Olivia Holt’s debut atop a major studio call sheet is going exceptionally well.
The multitalented star of Heart Eyes couldn’t be prouder of director Josh Ruben’s slasher romcom, as it’s one of the most well-reviewed films of the young year. Holt’s lead role is a logical next step given her recent scene-stealing performance in Nahnatchka Khan’s time-travel slasher comedy, Totally Killer (2023). In fact, Heart Eyes producer Greg Gilreath also produced the former, so he recommended Holt to Ruben during the casting process. Similarly, Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective behind Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), put in a good word for their former Scream actor Mason Gooding, and the strength of both endorsements sent Holt and Gooding straight to Heart Eyes’ New Zealand-based set, bypassing a chemistry read between the two romantic leads.

Editor’s Note: this hot take isn’t meant to be the final word on the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel. We’re looking forward to it here on the site, and this article is meant to start a fun debate on a movie that could be great – or not.
Can stop this absurd notion that Julie James is as important to the horror world as Sidney Prescott? In my opinion, she’s hardly even important in her own (short) franchise. It feels like an insult to a character that has been put through the ringer for over 30 years like Sidney. Especially when Julie’s exploits took place over just one year (1997-1998) and was mostly self-inflicted. Maybe don’t dump the body of the guy you and your friends murdered. Sidney was simply a victim of something she couldn’t control (her...

There are few horror movie villains more memorable than the unhinged, chaotic, and oddly charming Stu Macher from Scream. Matthew Lillard’s portrayal of the knife-wielding goofball-turned-killer made him a fan favorite, even though he met a very definitive end in the 1996 classic.
With Scream 7 on the horizon, rumors are swirling that Lillard might be making a return, despite the fact that Stu was, you know, very dead. But let’s be real, death has never been a dealbreaker in horror movies, especially in the Scream universe, where meta-madness reigns supreme.
Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher in Scream | Credits: Dimension Films
So, could Stu actually return? And if he does, how could it possibly make sense? Well, it would definitely be wild, but fans found four ways that a Stu comeback could actually work, even if they’re completely ridiculous. Buckle up, Scream fans, because we’re diving into some seriously bonkers territory.

Olivia Holt as Ally and Mason Gooding as Jay in ‘Heart Eyes’ (Photo by: Christopher Moss / Screen Gems)
Just when you thought Companion was going to be the big Valentine’s Day horror crossbreed movie, along comes Heart Eyes.
Heart Eyes is about a young woman named Ally (Olivia Holt from Cloak & Dagger) who, while having a rough day at work, meets an attractive stranger named Jay (Mason Gooding from the newer Scream movies). They are forced into working together, which leads to a reluctant romance, mainly because it’s Valentine’s Day. All they have to do is survive the night. Both figuratively and literally.
See, the city where they live, Seattle, is the new hunting ground for a serial killer called The Heart Eyes Killer, or H.E.K. for short, who only comes out on this one day and stalks couples. And he has, apparently, mistaken Allie...

This brash debut with Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher is slickly made but it’s not as clever or original as it thinks it is
Imagine, if you will, a skewed sci-fi reality that envisions a Black Mirror episode but for an entire movie? Can you even begin to grasp what that would look like? Maybe you can if in the last few years you’ve seen Foe or Fingernails or Don’t Worry Darling or Swan Song or Love Me or The Pod Generation or The Substance or Possessor or any one of the many attempts to recall the magic of at least some of the sci-fi anthology’s earlier episodes. It’s not as if the Charlie Brooker-created series was the first to spin “what if?” nightmares from the dangers of tech but its stickiness has had a noticeable effect on younger creators eager to Say Something about the times we live in.

Scream 7 is now in production after multiple delays, Matthew Lillard will be reprising his role of Stu – somehow.
A spoiler for the first Scream film lies ahead.
It’s no secret that the next Scream film has been fraught with difficulties, from the firing of Melissa Bererra to Jenna Ortega leaving, followed by director Christopher Landon.
Then there was the uncertainty over franchise stalwart Neve Campbell returning – she is onboard following the resolution of a pay dispute – and finally the return of original screenwriter Kevin Williamson, who is not on writing duties this time around but is instead directing. He has directed just one feature previously, the dark comedy Teaching Mrs Tingle, which was released in 1999. It starred Helen Mirren as a malicious teacher taken hostage by three of her students. It flew under the radar at the time and is well worth tracking down.

Lillard joins a cast which includes Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, and new cast members Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp. “Scream 3” alum Scott Foley also joined the cast earlier on Thursday.

Mikey Madison is still processing her Oscar nomination.
The 24-year-old actress, known for her roles in the FX series “Better Things,” as well as the films “Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood” and “Scream 5,” has been a working actor for over a decade, navigating the highs and heartbreaks of the industry. But this year, after her searing performance in Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner “Anora,” she’s found herself in the midst of awards season and an Oscar nominee for best actress.
Madison spoke to Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast for this week’s episode; listen below.
As much as “Anora” demanded from her, nothing compared to the final scene. Madison had been dreading it. “I would see it on the schedule and just think, Okay, it’s a couple weeks away, I don’t have to deal with it yet,” she says. “But then suddenly, it was right there.

Filming for Scream 7 got underway earlier this month, and casting news continues to trickle in. Most recently, Deadline confirmed that morning talk show host Mark Consuelos has joined, although details regarding his character are being kept under wraps.
But that hasn't stopped rumors and speculation from circulating online. The rumor mill is ever-churning, saying that Consuelos might be playing a character devised as a rival to Gale Weathers. Note that this rumor stems from unverified sources on social media and is, so far, completely unsubstantiated. Courteney Cox previously confirmed her return alongside Neve Campbell, who reprises her role as final girl Sidney Prescott.
Consuelos is best known for co-hosting Live with Kelly and Mark alongside his wife, Kelly Ripa. He started his career as an actor on the soap opera All My Children. Since then, he's starred in TV series like Riverdale and The Girls on the Bus. He...

Scream 7 is bringing Sidney Prescott back (Neve Campbell) now that Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega) are gone, but the stories of the latter two can’t be ignored for one big reason. The Scream saga has seized the rise and popularity of horror reboots and legacy sequels and made a successful comeback 11 years after the release of Scream 4. 2022’s Scream kicked off the reboot trilogy and introduced a new generation of Ghostface killers and targets, led by sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter.
Scream 2022 saw the return of Sidney, Dewey (David Arquette), and Gale (Courteney Cox) to aid Sam, Tara, and their friends during the new Woodsboro murders. Sam, Tara, their surviving friends, and Gale returned in Scream 6 to confront another Ghostface killer now in New York City, while Sidney was said to have gone to a safe place with her husband and children. Scream 7 has officially ruined one of the best Sidney Prescott revelations from the Scream reboot. The famous horror franchise has been going through many changes since Scream 7 fired Melissa Barrera. Shortly after, Jenna Ortega also left the sequel, establishing two major blows to the movie. The upcoming Scream 7 secured Kevin Williamson to direct the film and renowned franchise stars such as Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox to star. However, the horror sequel still has much to prove given all the behind-the-scenes changes.
One of Scream's most iconic stars, Patrick Dempsey has teased his possible return for Scream 7. Dempsey's return as Mark Kincaid would have been a step in the right direction for the upcoming film. However, Scream 7 officially cast Sidney Prescott's husband Mark, and he is a completely different character. Joel McHale will play Mark Evans, Sidney's husband, who is very much not Detective Mark Kincaid.

Scream 7 could be the biggest iteration in the franchise yet, but a recent casting announcement means a major franchise replacement can't happen. While Scream has become somewhat formulaic since its 1996 debut, each movie continues to expertly deliver upon the element of surprise that has become synonymous with the franchise. Details about the plot of Scream 7 remain undisclosed at this time, but director Kevin Williamson's upcoming project is slated for 2026. However, there have been extensive discussions about the cast list for Scream 7. One recent announcement, however, means that Scream 7 has squandered a wonderful opportunity.
Scream 6 continued the story behind the popular franchise and set the tone for the succeeding movies following the death of beloved character Dewey in Scream 6. Scream 7 adds another returning franchise star to its cast list. Wes Craven's wildly successful meta-slasher franchise began in 1996 with Scream, which became a modern classic. The success of the first movie spawned a franchise, which included Scream 2 in 1997 and Scream 3 in 2000. Since then, the series has produced a total of six movies (and a television show), and it is continuing onward with the development of Scream 7. Set for release in February 2026, the movie will see the return of franchise lead Neve Campbell, alongside fellow franchise alums Courteney Cox and Mason Gooding.
Per Variety, Scream 7 has added returning franchise star Jasmine Savoy Brown to the cast list. Brown played Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream 5 and 6, the on-screen twin to Gooding, who portrays Chad Meeks-Martin. Joel McHale is set to play Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) husband in “Scream 7,” according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
In the last couple of movies, Sidney’s husband has been referred to as “Mark,” with David Arquette’s Dewey even asking Sidney how Mark was. The long-running inference was that Sidney had married Mark Kincaid, the character played by Patrick Dempsey in “Scream 3.” Radio Silence, the filmmaking team behind 2022’s “Scream” and 2023’s “Scream VI,” confirmed that this was, indeed, Mark Kincaid that they were referencing. But McHale is playing a new character, Mark Evans, breaking from the pre-established lore.

Sidney Prescott will be married in Scream 7, but not to Patrick Dempsey‘s Detective Mark Kincaid from Scream 3, as fans have speculated.
Deadline reports that Joel McHale has been cast as the final girl’s husband, Mark Evans.
Currently in production in Atlanta, Scream 7 sees the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney, Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, and Roger L. Jackson as the voice of Ghostface.
Isabel May plays Sidney’s daughter. The cast also includes Celeste O’Connor, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, and Anna Camp.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the slasher sequel is expected to bring the focus back onto Sidney and her family.

Despite a litany of streaming services out there to choose from, the only surefire way to have immediate access to a film is to own it yourself. But with companies like Best Buy getting rid of their Physical Media departments, collecting has become more and more niche. This is a shame because I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve gone to JustWatch and discovered the movie I was looking for wasn’t streaming Anywhere. And even worse when we go to find a copy and discover that it’s not even available to own physically! I’ve never heard of a company refusing to make money, but we’ve seen it time and time again in the movie industry.
As a big fan of the Scream franchise, I set out to collect all of the 4K Steelbooks for the franchise. Hell, I even imported the second one from Europe.

With filming underway, Scream 7 is back on track. But with its two original leads gone, we consider the story arc that may never be concluded.
Nb: The following contains spoilers for the earlier films in the Scream franchise.
It isn’t the end, or even the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning. After months of firings, hirings, deals and grumpy quotes in the press, Scream 7 has finally gone into production.
Kevin Williamson, the storyteller behind the first two slasher horror films from the 1990s (and 2011’s Scream 4), has been installed as the new director. Neve Campbell, having settled some much-publicised disagreements over her salary, has been coaxed back as its star, and will join Courtney Cox, another franchise legacy character, at the top of Scream 7’s bill.
Production company Spyglass Media will no doubt be glad that a profitable franchise is back on track.

The sci-fi thriller Companion is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian, but even though more than a year has passed since the project assembled its cast and went into production, we have known very little about it… until today. It has managed to stay shrouded in secrecy all this time, but now a trailer has dropped online that reveals what’s actually going on in the movie – and I can see why star Jack Quaid (Scream 2022) has advised potential viewers to avoid the trailer. But if you want to know what Companion is about, go ahead and take a look at the trailer embedded above.
There’s an official synopsis that doesn’t give away anything about the characters or what they’re up to: New Line Cinema—the studio that brought you The Notebook—and the unhinged creators...

Thanks to a new update from someone involved in Scream 7, fans have an updated timeline and when production will officially begin.
Previously, star Neve Campbell, who is returning to her iconic role of Sydney Prescott for the seventh entry, revealed that production starts in December later this year.
No plot details are known about the new entry, but Scream 5 and Scream 6 stars Jenna Ortega and Melissa Berrera will sadly not be returning to their roles of Tara and Sam Carpenter.

A teaser trailer for the film made its online a while back, and Quaid feels that’s all someone should see of the movie before it reaches theatres on January 31, 2025. If someone has already made the decision to see the movie, he advises them to avoid the next trailer when it’s released.

Jack Quaid's malevolent performance in Scream (2022) proves he has the chops to play a great Star Trek villain. Quaid winds down his fan-favorite five-season run as Lieutenant Bradward Boimler on Star Trek: Lower Decks. Similarly, Jack will also soon wrap his tenure as Hughie Campbell on The Boys, which enters its fifth and final season on Prime Video. With two of his most popular heroic characters in his rearview mirror, Jack Quaid should stay in Star Trek, but this time, as a dastardly villain.
The son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, Jack Quaid's first film role was as a murderous heel. Jack played Marvel in 2012's The Hunger Games opposite Jennifer Lawrence's breakout performance as Katniss Everdeen. One of the evil Tributes from District 1 in the 74th Hunger Games, Marvel will always live in infamy as the person who killed Rue (Amandla Stenberg). It was a memorable...

Jenna Ortega is a rising star in Hollywood, but despite her ongoing success, she has largely appeared to play the same role again and again. Ortega is just 22 years old, and has already starred in major motion pictures, the biggest hit show on Netflix, and a handful of horror movies, but despite the growing list of credits, Ortega appears to be repeatedly cast in a role that is largely the same in each new project.
There have been slight breaks from the norm, with some horror roles affording her the opportunity to play a more independent character, or someone who is not quite as resilient and tough, but, more often than not, her biggest roles and the ones that get the most attention have repeated some of the same elements that seem to rapidly be putting her into one specific typecast. And with the reveal of the new Death of a Unicorn trailer,...
