Opinion from a Dialysis Patient.
kenshinx-846185 December 2020
I am a 30 year old on in center hemodialysis and have had end stage renal disease requiring dialysis for shortly under a year. I don't get just the extreme amount of hate I am seeing here. Sure some things aren't 100% accurate. Some jokes fall a little flat but what do you expect honestly. It is a fully competent show and I've laughed more than a few times. Anything that puts kidney disease in the spotlight is a plus, and could maybe inspire someone to be a live donor to someone that needs a kidney, like myself. I hope this show continues for a while.

Not offensive in the slightest way
pperot1-386-3650163 December 2020
Having a comedy centered around someone who needs a kidney is NOT the same thing as making fun of someone who needs a kidney. The character is a strong, smart guy who is not made fun of at all. If anything, the show is doing a good thing by bringing attention to those who need transplants and showing the good in the world by having someone volunteer to give theirs. It's heartwarming, not offensive. Get a life people and stop getting offended by every little thing. Mom seems to be a popular show, which is about recovering alcoholics and a crippled man. I guess that show is disgusting to you people too.

Going to stick with it.

I never expect a perfect pilot episode. I think it had some funny moments. I will watch and hopefully the laughs and stories will grow. Don't hate on it so soon.

The laugh track...
Xsplizzle6 November 2020
After every single line there is annoying canned laughter, even when something is barely humorous. also barely humorous is the best you are going to get from this show even if the canned laughter doesnt make it unwatchable.

Decent
mattkratz13 November 2020
This lacks the freshness of other Chuck Lorre shows like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, but it seems ok. It is basically the story of a man in need of a kidney and finally finds one in a party girl from his past. I think it could pick up steam given some time and its creator.

Love love love
mlstrohmier20 November 2020
My husband is a kidney transplant recipient & we both love this show! It's a tad unrealistic, but it's tv. I love the character Gina. She's hilarious! I like that it brings to light some serious topics, but keeping it light & adding comedic value to a very serious health issue. It highlights some of what someone might go through, albeit much quicker than it actually happens. Keep the shoes coming!!

An OK show to watch - not as bad as reviews say
JBob3225 January 2021
I watched this after reading some of the negative reviews. In response to those reviews the laugh track is not that noticeable and the show is at least a step above the typical fair that doesn't grab your attention or last long these days.

I found it very watchable for 20 minutes of light entertainment and I watched all of the first six episodes over a weekend. Not all the dialog consists of one-liners, there are some nice serious moments and the comedy is only occasionlly cheezy.

If something like 2 Broke Girls deserves a 6.7 and 138 episodes then this deserves at least an 8. I would actually give it a 6.5 and 2BG about a 3. 2BG was just a series of badly written, over sexualized one-liners with actors that couldn't help but advertise they were about to deliver a zinger each and every time. Enough about that show, but it is annoying that something higher quality can't get any traction in comparison.

Season 2 is a dud
GD_Marq14 December 2021
I give season one 6 stars and season two 3 stars. First season was decent and I liked the guessing game with Gina and Drew. It was a nice spin with the supporting role. Didn't always have to see them with dialysis treatment. Season 2 is just terrible with the retirement home. The show hasn't really been funny but in season 1, there was at least some story. Season 2 has zero comedy, zero story. It's hard to B Positive about the future of this show.

I thought I would HATE THIS SHOW but I LOVE IT!
catfanatic88816 January 2021
This subject is very close to my heart as I am struggling with Chronic Kidney Disease in REAL life. I saw the promos for this and thought it was in very poor taste to make light of something that affects so many people's lives including my own. However I gave it a try and I LOVE IT! It is hilarious, sometimes touching but always makes my day! The cast is sensational including the elderly ones who ride the bus from the retirement community. It hits all the right notes and is not exploitive but exuberant. I love it. Please keep it on the air. Give it a chance. The only thing I don't like is the theme song and images. It deserves better than that.

Where are the GOOD sitcoms??
NullUnit7 January 2022
Chuck Lorre has single-handedly killed the "sitcom" as a genre.

There's no humor here. Sure there's an overlaid laugh track to make an audience THINK they were supposed to find humor, but that doesn't mean there actually IS any humor.

The writing is so bad they've had to double the length of the opening with a rather lame (due to theme, not Ashford's voice) song and dance routine. Then, on top of that, they now also throw in yet ANOTHER song and dance routine immediately before the song and dance opening?? This is simply a marker for a poorly written and edited show.. they are filling time rather than writing better stories.

Sitcoms are NOT supposed to have full 1-2 minute "previously on.." openings... they aren't supposed to center around death and renal failure... or death at a retirement home...

Sitcoms.. i.e. Situation COMEDIES... are supposed to show odd situations which are funny. They are supposed to have 20-30 minute single story arcs, then character arcs which can last for several seasons as secondary, running, gags.... They are supposed to be singular in nature and not require viewers to tune in to every episode to understand the plot of a single episode.... Laverne & Shirley, 2 and a Half Men, Night Court, Scrubs, You're the Worst, etc. ---- Like I've posted Chuck Lore is killing this genre. All his "sitcoms" go directly against all of this....

It's simply too bad Chuck Lorre seems to be responsible for practically every "sitcom" being made for network TV today. One thing is certain, if you actually want HUMOR you need to avoid ABC/NBC/CBS .

My favorite new sitcom. Funny.
rockinkettles-113 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I like this show a lot. I don't find it offensive at all. Reviewers who hate it have no sense of humor and are offended too easily. Like some have said, it doesn't make fun of the patients who need a kidney transplant. It instead has some funny situations and hopefully inspires people to help others in need with health issues. I like Gina. She's a funny, cheerful cute blonde who offers to donate her kidney out of the kindness of her heart. Episode 11, Recessive Gina, was one of the best and funniest so far. She has a funny, cute moment with a bottle of ketchup at a restaurant that she pretends is her late father.

I'm hoping this series gains fans and lasts more than one season. When I saw the previews, it looked funny to me and something I might like. Well, I do like it and I've seen all the episodes. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out. It is my favorite new sitcom since Big Bang Theory.

Hyped by the industry as something good
Xavier_Stone6 November 2020
It's not good. The first thing the audience will realize is the overused ill timed laugh track in order to confuse your brain into thinking something funny. In decent shows like Seinfeld and Friends it's hardly noticeable since most of the jokes are funny. In this show because nothing is funny, the canned laughter is so obviously annoying that it becomes unwatchable as all you are hearing is the laugh track. It's cheaper than hiring good writers to come up with good jokes. All the 9 and 10 star reviewers I've looked at are 1 review accounts or similar trying like mad to hype up this mess. It's not really that great a topic to start with. A man dying of kidney disease needs a transplant from a girl? And lets make this a comedy, smh.

Surprisingly Good!
cruzmonet23 December 2020
I wasn't sure about this when I heard the premise, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a big fan of Kether Donohue from You're The Worst and Thomas Middleditch from Silicon Valley. Annaleigh Ashford's Gina character is super lovable and reminds me a lot of a personal friend. Love the character developement and the writing. All and all it does have positive vibes that we all need right now and a message of altruism and general kindness that does leave you thinking more about what's right with the world - those individual kindnesses that no one sees by everyday people.

Great Sit-com! Nothing more and absolutely nothing less.

Characters that crack me up as soon as I see them. Lighten up folks. We need comedy more now than ever!

This one deserves to make it.

Funny characters

Taking a bleak health diagnosis and giving it some humor. I am very entertained by these characters and the stories and writing on this show and also happy they aren't in my life-LOL. Hoping this last more then one season.

Clearly did ZERO research about kidney disease
thedude-551576 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I find everything about this show annoying. I even like the actors in it very much from other shows. But having recently suffered through some other health issues that led to my renal failure, this show just makes me mad.

The fact that they have so few of the actual facts even close to reality is the worst. I could tell this was the case just watching the stupid preview trailers. If this guy was truly in renal failure-- he would need to have dialysis ASAP. His doctor would also not be focusing on a freaking transplant from the start. I have been dealing with this a little over a year and am still trying to simply apply to be eligible to be placed on the potential transplant list.

Anyway -- I am currently watching episode one and am sort of offended how they are approaching what I consider a terribly important subject. 2/3rds of the way through and he still has not had his blood treated. It is bad enough that people don't understand this disease in general--- but this is surely not helping.

Funny quirky warm show
bonniejsln5 March 2021
My husband and I love this show!! We love the ensemble cast and the quirkiness of it. The friendships of the dialysis group are unique, funny and sweet. Interesting look at the life of dialysis patients too. It has some of the great humor & sarcasm of Big Bang. The older cast members are the best!! "Alice" and "Doc" from the good old days of tv are a great addition. Drew and Gina have a good chemistry. Give it a try!!!

Another Chuck Lorre bad
JapanMovies9 November 2020
Why does CBS allow Chuck Lorre to continue to produce this wasteful production? He has FOUR on the air productions. Mostly that made fun of people disabilities or worse low forms of getting laughs at the expense of people that have mental of physically and disabilities. This productions is showing that Chuck Lorre doesnt care about what he make, on the amount of money he made from CBS ENOUGH

This show is very good but I need Gina to groom Drew
fastpuppy11 December 2020
Ok Annaleigh Ashford is amazing in this. The rest of the cast is awesome but she is a standout with an incredibly well formed character.

However, Drew's facial hair disaster is likely why his wife left him.

Another Laugh Track Show
A_New_Hope6 November 2020
When will the networks wake up, canned laughter is done. It so sad to see Thomas Middleditch star in this drivel after staring in an amazing show (Silicon Valley). Is he hurting for money? In today virus landscape you can tell that either its "filmed" in front of a small audience that's safely seated apart or its pure canned laughter. Either way its bad. Nothing was funny, Thomas's usual awkwardness is just cringy here. This will be a one and done show like the horrible laugh track shows from 2019 and beyond.

Surprisingly Good
beachy-3843121 November 2020
I was a little hesitant to watch this after reading the reviews here. But now I have watched 2 episodes and am hooked. Annaleigh Ashford is a comedic treasure. She gives the show the feel of Big Bang Theory. Then she does the serious talk between her and the daughter and really sells it. Then she crawls back out the window, clumsily, and falls to the ground. That kind of change in personality in the same scene is a great actor. I love the conversations of Drew's dialysis group. On the end of the third episode the dance-off between Gina and Drew was great. Kudos to casting, Drew's gaunt looks and unshaven face make him look sick. His deadbeat delivery is perfect. I will continue watching this show. And to the show runners, having a comedy about a person sick with kidney disease was very brave.

Looking too healthy for dialysis patients?
hughjman14 November 2020
In truth, I only caught the last 10-15 minutes. I LOVED Annaleigh Ashford in "Kinky Boots." And "Mom" is a favorite show. So with such a short watching time, I can't really review except to say - do people on dialysis look so incredibly healthy?

Just bad
coolcoachty8 November 2020
I had to force myself to watch the entirety of the first episode. I was expecting a good new comedy based on the commercials. Unfortunately I sat stone faced, not cracking a hint of a smile the entire time. I'll give it one more episode but so far, utter disappointment. And the canned laughter is just the worst.
