The obsession of the plastic bag.
Sleepin_Dragon6 February 2021
Martin is distracted by a plastic bag stuck high up in a tree, Jackie is irritated by Adam.

Not so funny as the series opener, but still an amusing episode. I like how we get to see Jackie falling out with Adam, the pair have been so very close the whole way through, this is a bit different.

Martin's obsession with the bag is funny, and the jokes surrounding Jonny's space suit jacket are also very funny. The scene with the device is funny.

I don't think you could argue this is a vintage episode, but it is funny.

Poor concept but still a good watch

Series 6 in general has been less good compared to previous ones. The whole episode revolves around a plastic bag being stuck in a tree and Martin is fixated on this bag for the entire episode. The concept is a little ridiculous and unbelievable which does make this episode less good. However, still a good watch.

Still funny but a bit too cruel

Warning: Spoilers
I have to agree with Crawley's review, I'm afraid. While I did actually get a good few laughs out of this episode (the crap ladder comes to mind), I found myself cringing at the unwavering cruelty and hatefulness exhibited by "the boys" in this episode.

Adam and Johnny are always pushing each other and other characters to the limit, right throughout the 6 series. And 9 times out of 10, it works and is hilarious. But there has been a few times where I've found myself no longer routing for them because they took it just a tad too far.

And that is what happened with this episode, especially. I think Adam went too far with taunting his mother over the magazine interview and playing on her jealousy towards "Aunty Val". And I think Johnny shouldn't have made his dad crawl along with back pain whilst pushing him with a rake!

But at least Adam finally said he loved his mother at the end of the episode. I would've thought it pretty pathetic and unreasonable if he hadn't. How would he like it if all his family except him were mentioned in a magazine interview? He'd hate it and demand answers, just as Jackie did!

Funny yet doesn't deliver a good message

The episode is funny. No issue at all about that. However, bullying the dad went bit too extreme I guess.

A mean-spirited and uninspired episode with two flimsy conflicts

Where do I even start with this episode?

I hated it.

The two main plots of this episode were flimsy, and this episode did not make me laugh once. The A plot of this episode is Martin being driven crazy by....... a bag in a tree. I mean come on, writers. Are you that low on ideas? This episode almost feels like the writers had writers' block, and they were looking around for inspiration, and they saw a plastic bag in a tree. Because this episode feels about as uninspired as a plastic bag in a tree. The B plot was somehow even worse, with Adam refusing to say "I love you" to his mum, because he did not remember going to a concert with his mum when he was 5.

Both plots in this episode were not only skull-numbingly uninspired, but genuinely mean-spirited. This show is by nature a bit mean-spirited, but several moments in this episode just felt downright malicious and not funny in the slightest. The way the boys keep hurting Martin when he is already hurt was not funny for me, it was just painful and filled with malice. Adam was also saying and doing some pretty disgusting things to avoid saying "I love you" to his mum.

The only mildly amusing moment in this entire episode came at the end, with the prank involving Jonnie's silly jacket.

But other than that, I did not crack a smile at this episode. I was not rooting for anyone in this family, I found myself just genuinely disliking them all. A horrible episode with two null conflicts. A true stinker, and one of the show's worst. 2/10.
