The end of a fantastic animated series
Reckno6417 April 2020
The show wraps up by paying homage to its very first episode: Singing a song about ice cream. What seemed like a cringe first episode about a fat kid and his love for a discontinued ice cream became one of the greatest animated series I have EVER seen (in my opinion). It all pays off in this bittersweet finale. Thank you Steven Universe. Thank you Rebecca Sugar. Thank you to everyone else who brought this wonderful show to life. Steven Universe will go down as one of the most iconic shows of the 2010s.

And you know what? I already miss it.....

But that doesn't mean I'm not smiling, because it did indeed HAPPEN and that is the most important thing. :)

One last thing I want to address: The anti-climactic ending. I personally thought this was a fitting finale to the show, contrary to what some other fans think. At its core, Steven Universe has always been a coming-of-age story about Steven himself. That's why the show is titled "Steven Universe". In this very last episode, he says goodbye to everyone and begins the next journey of his life in a new place. What exactly that is we will never know for sure, but we can be quite certain it will involve marriage to Connie at some point!

The show ended on a fitting note in my opinion and I was personally VERY satisfied with it. I'm surprised not many feel the same way but to each their own. :)

Steven Universe is one of few cartoons of this past decade to really move me for one reason or another, and I couldn't be more grateful for its existence. Again to everyone who made this show possible: Thank you.

For anyone wondering what was in the chest in Lion's mane, it was probably Steven's cool pink jacket. So stop complaining about it already!

My thoughts on Steven Universe Future

Warning: Spoilers
I honestly do not really like steven universe the future. He has become very spoiled and doesn't understand what he has. In the beginning the gems wanted him to be like a normal human, especially since he was very young. But steven wanted to be like them and begged them to let him go on trips. In the beginning he didn't want to be like a normal human. Now that they gave him that freedom, he in the end didn't want that. He went back on his words saying how he wanted to be a normal human. Yet he made that decision to be like a gem. Which is a spoiled child. He blames others for the things he wanted. And throws terrible tantrums. But i do enjoy the ending, where he finally starts to love himself again. This season is not for younger kids, and i hope you do not allow anyone 15 and under to watch it.

Warning: Spoilers
Back when this show was introduced, I immediately fell in love with it. The art style, visuals, music scores, the characters, it was great. As I got older, I started to notice some problems with its writing and how it affects the show's characters, their development, and its logics. I stopped watching Steven Universe after Season 5 because of these issues and never bother watching Steven Universe Future. Since this was the last episode of the series, I decided to look into Steven Universe Future.

I would talk about issues with Steven Universe Future, but this is the finale I'm reviewing. This was the whole build-up to Steven becoming corrupted (I did find it weird he turned into a pink Godzilla) but I was ready to see him destroy something, this was Steven time to shine, to go nuts... to only ended with a hug. How anticlimactic and disappointing. I wish this show didn't focus on too much on FEELINGS instead of actually giving me a decent plot where I can actually FEEL something for the characters.

If the story and the show was top-notch, I would've ranked higher to Avatar: The Last Airbender level. The once loved show with many flaws is finally over. It's been a ride and end of an era. There are somethings I liked about the show, but if it was written better I would've appreciated a lot better. But no matter what... Season 1 will always be the best season.

They forgot about the chest. They could have also focused on other gems.

Clichè

Warning: Spoilers
As a stand-alone episode this is fine, just kinda boring. But as the end of a show that's been around for nearly a decade? It's bad. Better than the previous episode but still bad. It's the stock plot of "Characters have a hard time saying goodbye to each other." And Steven is an unlikable little brat here. I understand he's gonna miss his friends but, he can't just accept that his friends are happy for him? It just makes him really annoying. Also, Steven has no job, no birth certificate, nothing. He's been so sheltered his entire life that he won't make it out in the real world.

Boring soap opera for tweens.
CartoonMan202018 May 2020
The show seemed to end just fine, but now goes on to... show cringy episodes about Steven being an angsty teenager. Remember the filler episodes in the old series that were about nothing? Now ALL of the episodes are like that. There is no plot left and no antagonists. It's completely devoid of humor and the stories are hardly compelling.
