The 2024 calendar will be riched by one huge event, the Olympics in Paris, something Jannik Sinner has circled in his calendar.
Next year's Olympics will be slightly different because tennis will be played on clay. It's been a long time since it's been played on clay, as the last time it happened was in 1992 in Barcelona.
Since then, all events have been played on hard courts except the 2012 Olympics in London, which were played on grass, of course. That adds a bit of spice to the event, as not all players are great clay players.
Jannik Sinner is pretty good on the surface and could certainly do some damage if he keeps the level he showed recently. According to his coach, Darren Cahill, it's an event he has circled for next year, so much so that Cahill called it a top priority.

Iga Swiatek has always been known as a great clay player, and she backed it up this year by dominating the whole Wta Tour on that surface.
Swiatek emerged on Tour as basically a clay specialist. While her junior career saw her win Wimbledon, among other things, everybody knew that playing on clay was her main strength.
It was her favourite surface and the one where her movement really shined. Her breakout came late in 2020 when she surprisingly won the pandemic French Open, which was played in October.
She blasted everyone en route to the final, beating Sofia Kenin in the final and finishing as champion. She didn't drop a single set at that event and finished that year with a 16-2 record on clay.
She backed it up the following year by finishing 12-2 on clay. 2022 saw her win another Roland Garros trophy, finishing 18-1 on the year. This...

Rafael Nadal 's uncle and ex-coach Toni Nadal is hopeful his nephew will return at the start of next season, but jokingly admitted he'll need three of his big rivals out of the picture.
Nadal has not played since losing to Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of this year's Australian Open . He picked up a troublesome hip injury that became apparent it was a lot more serious than initial scans. Nadal was initially scheduled to be out for six to eight weeks for what was classified as a Grade 2 injury of the iliopsoas.
But weeks turned into months and Nadal found himself playing catchup to appear at his favorite tournament - Roland Garros. When he pulled out from the entire clay-court swing before the Parisian clay Slam, it was clear that the Spaniard was fighting a losing battle.
Nadal listened to his body and doctors and decided to undergo surgery.

Rafael Nadal will return to tennis in about three or so months, and according to Boris Becker , it will only happen if he thinks he can win.
This is kind of self-explanatory when you think about it because there is very little for Nadal in tennis if it's not winning. He obviously wants to win, as that's been the case his whole career, and just taking part to 'take part' isn't that appealing.
Uncle Toni kind of confirmed that by explaining how Nadal might even play beyond 2024 if he's really competitive. We don't know whether that will happen, but Becker agrees. He doesn't see Nadal coming back to the Atp Tour unless he's certain that he can still win, and he explained that for Eurosport .

These are some of the most well-known nicknames for current and former Atp professionals and the reasons why they are known by their aliases.

Novak Djokovic is known for tormenting opponents and for being a psychological stalwart on the tennis court. But he is still often referred to by his affectionate nickname 'Nole'.
The exact origin of the 36-year-old's nickname has never been verified, but a few possibilities exist.

It wasn't pretty and there won't be any songs written about it but Alexander Zverev made a winning start at the 2023 Bastad Open .
He made his way back on clay following a solid experience at Wimbledon in the hope of finding some of that level he had at the 2023 Roland Garros . He didn't do that but he still got it done against a very tricky opponent who certainly gave him trouble.
Alex Molcan is a very capable player on clay and while he didn't win the match he certainly left a very solid impression. The first set was a pretty close battle between the players even though both had chances to break the other.
Eventually, Zverev stabilized and took a break late in the set to win it 6-4. The second one saw Molcan respond quickly as the Slovakian took an early break and never quite let it go. He...

Dominic Thiem made a return to clay and it was a great one as he won the first match at the Swiss Open in Gstaad.
Thiem last played at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships where he played a really solid match almost beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in a 5-set epic . Thiem has been looking a lot better recently which is interesting because he started to play much better last year at this time as well.
The start of the year has been very shaky as the Austrian hasn't even won 15 matches this year and this was his 30th match he played this year. This is actually only his 8th win on the Atp Tour level this year as 5 of his wins came on the Challenger Tour and that's a pretty good indicator of how poor his season has been.

Netflix’s Break Point is a superb documentary series created by Paul Martin and James Gay-Rees, which takes us into the world of professional tennis through its most promising aspirants.
The second part of this documentary series arrives in June, applying formulas seen in other sports documentaries like “Drive to Survive” and successfully bringing it to the world of tennis.
The first part was a huge success, and we expect no less from this second installment, which features a few privileged tennis players such as Nick Kyrgios, Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Matteo Berrettini, putting the world of tennis in the palm of our hands.
This documentary aims to take us beyond a television broadcast and make us truly part of the frenetic world of professional sports through aspirants who aim to dethrone the three great legends who have reigned in the last decade.

Novak Djokovic has dismissed the favourite mantle proclaiming Carlos Alcaraz as the favourite for Roland Garros.
With the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal from Roland Garros, the focus immediately shifted to Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. The latter is the number one player in the world, the top seed of the event and a rising star with a noted track record on clay.
The former is a legendary player who is likely to go down as the greatest tennis player to have ever lived though he's not particularly comfortable with the favourite mantle. To him, it's clearly Alcaraz with the way he played so far this year.

Daniil Medvedev has had a really superb year so far winning multiple trophies including losing only a handful of matches.
The year didn't start off well for Medvedev with a couple of losses in Australia. His exit from Australia was particularly surprising due to his great track record at the event. Things would soon become better as he looked good in Rotterdam.
After winning that event, he added Doha to his trophy tally and then finished it off with a superb showing in Dubai. Indian Wells was a good showing as well but Carlos Alcaraz proved impossible to beat with Medvedev earning his flowers by beating Sinner and now in Rome with a triumph over Rune. Holger Rune got very close to winning his first Atp Masters 1000 title on clay yet again, but he lost in the 2023 Italian Open final.
The youngster already has one Atp 1000 trophy in his collection as he managed to win at the Paris Masters last year. This year, he played in the Monte-Carlo Masters final but lost to Andrey Rublev, and his try number two came in Rome against another Russian, Daniil Medvedev.
This time around, it was a straight sets loss for Rune but it certainly isn't something he should be sad about. Once again, he played very well throughout the week, just didn't manage to make the one last step. Speaking after the match, he admitted that he was a bit nervous but also spoke about expectations.

Daniil Medvedev defeated Holger Rune to win the 2023 Italian Open in Rome and lift his maiden Masters clay title.

Although they both triumphed in the event of the same category before, it was never on clay. The young Dane was close in Monte Carlo, but it slipped out of his hands. On the other hand, Medvedev never played in a final of the Atp 1000 clay-court event before, and he wanted to prove that he can play also on this surface.

Holger Rune is one of the best players on clay right now and as such he will be among those that could possibly win Roland Garros.
The Danish rising star certainly proved himself once more on the big stage by beating Novak Djokovic at the 2023 Italian Open on Wednesday. It continued a run of solid results on clay which included the Monte Carlo final which he lost to Andrey Rublev.
Then he successfully defended his trophy in Munich while his Madrid Open experience ended early due to an inspired Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He won 12 of 14 matches played on clay this year which is a winning percentage of 85 %. It's certainly one of the best marks on the Atp Tour and after a good run in Paris last year, there is no reason he couldn't do it again.
I still think, I mean, if Rafa is ready, Novak, I still see those two as the biggest favorites.

Aryna Sabalenka doesn't think she's a favourite for Roland Garros but she's going to work to put herself in a position to win it.
The Belarusian has never been the best clay player as her most memorable results came on surfaces like hard and grass. She won her only Grand Slam trophy on a hard court earlier this year but she's also won two Wta trophies on clay.
Interestingly enough, both of those trophies have come in Madrid with the second one just a few days ago after a win over Iga Swiatek. There is a reason for that and it's mostly due to the geography of Madrid as well as her comfort level in the city. The trophy was her 13th in her career and it's something she never expected to happen as she revealed in a talk with Wta Insider.

Thanasi Kokkinakis will be playing in the main draw of the 2023 Italian Open in Rome, which is an Atp 1000 event.
The Australian didn't elect to play on the red dirt often during his career, but in 2023 he committed to play the full clay-court part of the Atp season, and so far, it's been full of ups and downs for Kokkinakis, who will now enter the main draw of the Atp Masters 1000 event on clay.
During his career, Kokkinakis entered the main draw of an Atp 1000 event on clay three times before, but he always lost in the first round. Now, he will make an appearance in the main draw of a tournament where he never played in the main draw before, and he'll also get a chance to record his first-ever win on the red dirt at this level.
It comes after a turbulent start of the clay-court part of the season.

Madrid, May 7 (Ians) Despite taking a loss on clay in the Madrid Open final, World No.1 Iga Swiatek remains inspired as she builds on a growling rivalry with No.2 Aryna Sabalenka and said that she doesn’t have any big regrets.
The Polish player, who suffered a rare loss on clay, is keeping her fortnight in perspective following the year’s first Wta 1000 clay-court event.
“We just played on a good level, but [Sabalenka] was better today. Maybe sometimes I could be more proactive, but honestly, I think we both played well. I don’t have any big regrets,” Swiatek said in her post-match press conference on Saturday night.

After good news, there is bad news for Nick Kyrgios as he was forced to pull out of the 2023 Italian Open in Rome.
Only yesterday, it was announced that the 27-year-old Australian will rejoin Team World for the 2023 Laver Cup. Today, another announcement came, this time marking Kyrgios' withdrawal from the 2023 Italian Open in Rome, which is an Atp 1000 event in the Italian capital on clay and runs from May 10th to 21st.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist underwent knee surgery which was initially celebrated as a great success. Kyrgios wanted to return already at the Indian Wells, but after missing the Sunshine Double, he also missed the Madrid Open and now another Atp 1000 event will be played without the Australian.
Yet, it's not unusual for Kyrgios to skip these events. He isn't a big fan of clay and the last time he played in Madrid and Rome was in 2019, when he...

Taylor Fritz believes he is getting stronger when performing on red clay courts, but admits to being behind some of his European competitors on the surface.
The American player returned to red clay courts recently as he took part in the Monte-Carlo Masters and lost in the semi-finals against eventual winner Andrey Rublev. Fritz then participated in the Bavarian International and again reached the semi-final stage before losing to Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets.
When reflecting on his progress early in the European clay court season, Fritz said to the Atp Tennis Podcast that he feels confident on the red clay courts. In addition, he shared his excitement about the upcoming competitions, with the Madrid Open up next for the American.
"I feel like I've never really hated being on, on red clay. Green clay can't stand it. But red clay. I've always liked it. Maybe not my best surface,...

Amid a flurry of withdrawals, Thanasi Kokkinakis found an unexpected path to the Madrid Open's main draw, ready to make his mark.
The 2023 Madrid Open has witnessed an unusual number of withdrawals, with over 15 players pulling out of the competition. As a result, several players who would typically be limited to qualifying matches have secured spots in the Atp main draw, including Thanasi Kokkinakis.
This comes as a much-needed opportunity for Kokkinakis, who has faced two heart-wrenching losses earlier in the year, first to Andy Murray at the Australian Open, and then to Hubert Hurkacz at the Miami Open. Despite these setbacks, the gifted Australian now has a chance to turn the tide of his season.
Kokkinakis hasn't been particularly dominant on clay courts in the past. In fact, he only won two of the five matches he played on clay last year, with a scant six matches on the surface between 2017 and 2019.

Daniil Medvedev battled Lorenzo Sonego, the crowd, and the clay at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters, but he emerged victorious from the match.
It was a decent outing for Medvedev who is full of confidence after a really good week on the Atp Tour. He didn't keep his winning streak but he's looking very confident in his tennis and even playing on clay could not deter him. It did still annoy him though.
Every match is a struggle [on clay], but I have had some good matches on clay. I managed to play good against a very strong player on clay. Lorenzo is very strong. Here in Monte-Carlo there are a lot of Italians in the crowd, but a lot of French also, so it was fun to play, and I am happy to beat such a tough opponent.
The wins he got in Indian Wells and Miami certainly kept his spirits high after...

Novak Djokovic won two Roland Garros trophies in his career and he has a dream of making it three this year after last year's disappointment.
Winning Roland Garros during the era of Rafael Nadal is truly one of the hardest things you can do in tennis. Djokovic did it twice but he also lost a few finals along the way. The goal for this year is quite clear. He wants to hit a good level before Paris in order to put himself in a position to win his 3rd trophy at Roland Garros.
I have to say, it’s in the back of my mind, as an ultimate goal on clay. I really want to be able to build my form so I can peak in Paris.

Jessica Pegula will be playing the 2023 Charleston Open quarterfinals after winning a roller-coaster match.
In her first match, the world no. 3 played sensational tennis, beating her opponent 6-2, 6-0. After the win, Pegula talked about her chances of doing well on clay, and she was really optimistic about playing in Charleston. In the third round of the tournament, the American took on Irina-Camelia Begu from Romania, who beat another American, Sofia Kenin in the previous round.
The two met three times before and the Romanian triumphed in the first two meetings. However, in their last match, which was also the only match played on clay, Pegula won in three sets and she wanted to follow up on that win in Charleston.
And she started well in the first set. Despite losing a one-break lead, the American stayed focused and broke her opponent's serve once more to win the first set...

Daniil Medvedev admitted that he plays his best tennis on hard courts, but is determined to prove himself on clay this season.
Medvedev added to his list of early 2023 achievements yesterday when he surged to a straight-sets win against Jannik Sinner to win the Miami Open. It was the Russian's third Atp title of the season already after victory at the Rotterdam Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships.
In addition, the 27-year-old reached the finals at Indian Wells in March but lost to world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the final. Reflecting on his impressive start to 2023, Medvedev told reporters of his awareness about being stronger on hard courts.
“I feel the best game on hard courts, even if I know that I can play well enough on grass and clay. On hard courts I feel the most fluid. And on hard courts I can play not my best tennis...

Elina Svitolina is set to make her return to professional tennis at the Charleston Open next week before playing the Oeiras Itf event later in April as a wildcard entrant.
Svitolina has not competed in 12 months after having her first child with Atp player Gael Monfils. However, the former world number three is preparing for a busy April, where she will compete at Charleston before heading to Portugal to play at the Oeiras Itf event.
For Svitolina, the return has been fast-tracked as she initially targeted a summer comeback. However, following a period of training, the 28-year-old said she is ready to compete again.
"At first, we thought that my comeback would be at a time of Wimbledon, but then, when we saw that I was in quite good training shape, we started wondering about Roland Garros and the tournaments prior to it."

Dominic Thiem is not giving up on his comeback as the Austrian is adamant that he'll return to the top if he continues to work on it.
Thiem has been utterly terrible this year losing the vast majority of matches he played. He is 2-10 on the year and a loss is pretty much standard for him. Nobody was surprised about his latest one in Miami and he himself acknowledged the problem of it.
It's been a tough time mentally as he admitted recently to thinking about life after tennis because tennis hasn't been that enjoyable lately. He's not losing hope as he admitted on Instagram following his Miami Open exit promising to work his way back to the top.
Currently on my way back home! @miamiopen , thank you for the Wc! Over and over again, it's a fantastic event! I am already looking forward to returning to one of the most amazing cities!

Stan Wawrinka has announced his withdrawal from the 2023 Estoril Open, delaying his much-anticipated comeback to the clay courts.
The 37-year-old three-time Grand Slam champion cited the need for additional preparation time before launching his clay season campaign. Wawrinka's absence is a blow to the Estoril Open organizers, who had eagerly awaited his presence at the event scheduled for April 3rd to 9th.
However, the entry list includes names such as Casper Ruud, Sebastian Korda, and Pablo Carreno-Busta and even with Wawrinka's absence, the 2023 Estoril Open promises to be a great spectacle and a very solid Atp 250 event.
In a heartfelt statement, Wawrinka expressed his disappointment at missing the opportunity to participate in this year's tournament:
"It is with a heavy heart that I will unfortunately, not be able to play in this year's Estoril Open. I would like to thank the organization and João Zilhão, the tournament director for giving me this opportunity.

"Batman: The Animated Series" is an innovative series with its approach to the Batman mythos. Using the vast and rich history of Batman comics, "The Animated Series" feels like all the best parts of Batman while also taking certain creative liberties with different characters and their origins to better fit the world of the show. Even today, the series is still considered one of the definitive Batman stories and has inspired many other movies, shows, and video games. Look no further than Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, whose performances as Batman and the Joker, respectively, have carried over from the show onto a myriad of other projects.
Interestingly enough, series co-creator Bruce Timm never thought "Batman: The Animated Series" would be a failure. However, that reasoning wasn't because of anything done on his part. In reality, Timm's belief in the series becoming a hit was all because of the character they were adapting.

A few minutes into Reboot, a self-important actor (Keegan-Michael Key) gets his hands on a script for a buzzy new comedy. “It is both the funniest thing you’ve ever read, and you won’t laugh once,” he gushes to his skeptical girlfriend. It’s a ridiculous line on its face, but it’s not an entirely unfair description of a certain type of acclaimed TV comedy: dark, unconventional and prestige-y, with jokes meant to bruise more than tickle.
Reboot is not that show. Reboot is a show that is going for actual, out-loud laughs and very often gets them — thanks to clever writing, a crackerjack cast and a cheerful willingness to go for the broad humor of, say, an avalanche of popcorn (albeit with a knowing wink). If it’s neither as cutting nor as heartwarming as it could be, that is,...
