"This is not the United States of America."

No, and it was not "Penny Dreadful" either.

It was a very good show that had no business being connected to the previous incarnation known as "Penny Dreadful". The only show misnomer worse I can recall is "Friday the 13th: the Series" which had zip to do with Jason, the movie franchise, or anything to do with Friday or the 13th itself! Yet it too was a very good genre show; just saddled with a misleading name.

This show was a soap about race, religion, and Nazi's in pre WWII LA. Yes there was a mild supernatural element; but even in the end it did not play out nor pay off.

From the lack of votes in the ratings on IMDB I fail to see how the show will get renewed. Unless it is "just because". That happens a lot, like most WB shows that do lousy in rating yet keep getting renewals. There is a math behind it but I won't bore you all with those details.

Thus we may see a season two.

Fine Finale & Anxious for more !

I know a lot of folks were disappointed that Penny Dreadful took this drastic turn in its format, but I found it refreshing. Personally I see this season as a spin-off and take it on its own merits. That said, I found the various subplots both interesting and entertaining, no to mention that the acting was excellent. The last episode of the season was particularly well done in my judgment and has me especially excited to see what's in store for the upcoming season. I highly recommend the series and feel many people really didn't give it chance.

I enjoyed the old detective noir feel. The strange fight between the Two sisters... well done

The end doesn't finish anything

The end is more political than anything else. I don't know why Santa Muerte appears during several episodes o Tiago's mum like a "witch", the supernatural thing doesn't land. I think the series could had been a good one but the end, at least a second season has been confirmed, has not made too much sense for me.
