Adam and Eva
jaberadam-7280825 May 2021
Slow but important .. There is information that was sent to us: Did Jonas the middle went through the same stages that Jonas the Younger passed through and lost his memory !! Or is there a possibility that Jonas the Younger broke the rule !! Let's wait for the next episodes and see!! There is a beautiful quote in this episode, I liked it very much, and it applies perfectly to those who think that they fully understand the series, and I am one of them "What you know is a drop, and what you do not know is an ocean."

I don't want to talk about cinematography, music and acting because they're always great.

Trying to solve this...

Hurts my brain but it's SO MUCH FUN! This show is in a class of it's own, not just with how it keeps such complicated storylines on track, but the cinematography, musical score, the acting... Everything is on point. No fillers, just amazing storytelling.

The whole town has turned into a desert

Warning: Spoilers
Alternate Martha is also only doing what she thinks is right. She still is similar to Jonas' Martha. You can see it in the less experience version of her, that travels with Jonas. She clearly grew up in a similar way as Jonas' Martha, since he mentioned her having the same experiences as his Martha. New Martha is more savage and definitely more interesting than first Martha! If I was Jonas, I would have asked how many people can travel using alt Martha's machine instead of experimenting on it right away. What you've seen here is how diff. Martha gives older Jonas the Materia to create the portal in that time. This is no spoiler, but you asked during the viewing: "what's the point of her being able to go back". Yes she lied, but she didn't do them dirty, she helped them. Dark just... Keeps delivering. And keeps adding further complexities - the three timelines of the first season feel almost like a tutorial teaching us the moves, with the casual jumps between multiple timelines in multiple worlds being now the final level. I'm floored, again and again, by the production design, by the sound design (the song s l a p s so hard, Chris Avantgarde and Red Rosamond are amazing, and if you know either or both - I am so envious, please send my admiration), the direction, the casting, the plot! The war between "Adam and Eva", between destroying the knot and preserving it, the layers of symbolism... Jantje Friese is a genius, and so is Bo Odar.

Interesting detail: Erit Lux, the saying on the cave door in Eva's World, and presumably the name of Eva's answer to Sic Mundus, is Latin for "Let There Be Light!", but interestingly enough, it's a very unusual wording, and an unusual choice. The traditional wording is Fiat Lux, which does translate to Let There Be Light, but Erit Lux means There Will Be Light - the former being a command, the latter a statement of fact about the future.

This makes me think that "Light" means the world, the knot, and that the "There will be light!" is a mission statement of sorts, announcing the group's intention to preserve the knot.

Sic Mundus Creatus Est is incidentally a quote from a text known as the Tabula Smaragdina (the picture in Mikkel's room, the tattoo on Noah's back and on the man in S2E1's chest is a variation on an 17th century engraving of it by Heinrich Khunrath), an esoteric text associated with alchemy and Hermes Trismegistus, an amalgamy of Hermes and Thoth commonly seen in occultism. Interestingly, the engraving on the Erit Lux door isn't the triquetra, but the caduceus, the symbol of Hermes... So! Much!! Symbolism!!!

Also fun fact, the Adam and Eve paintings in Eva's headquarters, by Lucas Cranach the Elder, are here in Vienna at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and I am so gonna go see them.

...Can you tell that I love this show??

A little repetitive, but still going great.
TheFirst0128 June 2020
Not gonna lie this one of the first times on the show where I wanted the episode to end, cause I was just seeing things I've seen in previous seasons but this time is to other characters (Hannah saying I want her to lose everything was said in the second season I think etc...) I get that's the point of the show, but I feel like that's information for newcomers of the show because if you've seen the previous seasons it's kind of useless because you understand what's going on (events from the previous seasons ocurring again, but to other characters). So I have to say this was definitely the slowest episode of the season so far, but since the plot is so intriguing and the plot twists still manage to be good I'll still rate it above 9. I give this episode a 9.2/10.

Good not Great
rk-6032827 June 2020
I like the cinematography, acting, music, etc and all those other elements but the story is not progressing. They are showing the same plots of s1 but in Alt. World this time. Kinda disappointing but let's hope the next episodes to be great.

Murkier and murkier
Leofwine_draca14 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
We're in the midst of a story that gets murkier and murkier, more and more complex with each episode. I followed the first two series no problem but I'm struggling more with this one. Still thoroughly engrossing though.

This is where they lost me
jamison060112 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Series 1 and 2 were amazing. But this new, unnecessary alternate world has just thrown the show into a incredibly confusing, repetitive mess. So disappointing to see such a brilliant show implode. Just finished episode 4 and it is not getting better. Will be awful if there is not a satisfying ending. And for pete's sake, Jonas take a shower. Old Martha looks like she just walked out of a salon in haute couture, and he wont take a shower...

Not sure really
michaelvarley30 June 2020
Are they cheating with the multiverse and multiple timelines? Are they repeating themselves or is it cinematic artistry combined with true intellectual exposition of the human condition?

There are those scenes where two characters are played by four different actors in 2 separate scenes, which is great for giving loads of great actors great roles and very entertaining to watch plus hard to plot (which is why there are so many holes) - is it a great artistic experiment or TV execs cheating so they can keep churning out the same thing forever and still get paid?

Personally I think it's great, very clever and truly artistic and intelligent.

I look forward to Series 4, 5, 6 and 7 ;)

Martha and Jonas
Hitchcoc4 December 2023
Here we have foundation episode where we are once again welcomed to the future, and the future ain't good. Jonas and Martha find each other being moved together, but they don't make the connections. Within this episode are a series of encounters where pain is inflicted. As it should be, we shouldn't believe the outrageousness of the travelers. But if we are sane humans, we live in close contact with an apocalyptic universe. So now we need to see how this all plays out with just a handful of episodes left. I'm not sure I will ever understand the scope of this show and no level of didacticism is going to do it. But I'm game.

Worst episode in the show
eisaaatif30 December 2023
This season has started off well but episode 2 and 3 have slowed down the plot, been repetitive but still have the same level or acting, cinematography and soundtrack. The whole Adam plot has been put aside for a while and in this specific episode despite tons of conversations no progress is made. Not with Ulrich and Martha/Magnus, not with Martha young and Jonas old and not with Jonas young and Martha old. The part with Helge "rescued" the episode. Overall, the end better be good. These first three episodes are overrated. Definitely not 8.5+. Probably 7.8-8.2. This multiverse plot also brings alot of consistency questions and I am interested how they will resolve them. Why does Jonas old not remember Martha from her world? Better be a good explanation.

Again and again, with the same characters... they are telling the same story. The feeling of deceit grows bigger and bigger. And the point is, being a fan is required at this point.

Give me a break!!
saadi-4242221 August 2020
They're using the same plot of season 1 just a more disturbing and unconvincing this time. Season 1 and 2 were good, but this alternate world crap is gling nowhere. Should've stuck to the basic sci-fic time-travel thing
