Maggie is full of it
clownbaby-060064 October 2022
Way too much Maggie in this one. She's not a lead, sorry to say. And her whole speech about Negan not deciding who lives or dies, she literally did that the previous episode with Gage. They could've easily saved him but she chose to let him die. Inconsistent writing or a hypocritical character, you pick, but it's not good.

Negan is a prick but she's just as bad. More Daryl, please. He's the best character by far. The Reapers are just another group like the group who pretended to be dead, but less creative and interesting. There's only so much you can do with a post-apocalyptic zombie storyline and this show proves it.

The walker train fight was a train wreck!
brianhenneman-881473 December 2021
Two things: 1. They didn't have enough time to open the train door to let that kid in? Are you freaking kidding me?!?

2. With as many walkers as they killed in the train, there should have been a mountain of dead walkers, but the aisle stayed clear.

50 minutes of absolute madness
ethanjjacobs25 August 2021
This was one of the best episodes in a while, the acting, the writing and the story is all amazing. This episode was so gruesome and suspenseful I couldn't stop watching, the introduction of the new enemies (the reapers) was really cool and I'm excited to see what happens.

9.5/10.

Another Breathtaking Episode
revieweranarchy7524 August 2021
After a solid start from Acheron Part 1, this episode delivers in almost all the same aspects, and then some. The introduction of the Reapers kind of gives me Purge vibes, and i'm glad that the Walking Dead is returning to a faster paced/horror like when it was at its peak. Let's hope the season continues to deliver.

Scary
BoulosSoueileh24 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The scary lovely "walking dead" we all liked is back. One of the scariest episodes in the series, the new group were horrifying in the end, Maggie was scary, she came a long way since negan killed Glenn, scary deadly killer. Daryll scene in the train was so epic, I really screamed when I saw that fight, starting with daryll and ending with daryll. Daryl is scared and tired and broken, this will be a turning point in the upcoming episodes.

Eugene perfomance was so good, even I believed him, probably theu choose the wrong person to play mind games on but their story won't end here, there is something more for this.

The only downside of this episode is maggie survival, we want Maggie to survive but not in that hard way, it was impossible for her to leave and crawl back. But that's so good hope this keeps going the same way.

Josh !
tristan_1924 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The rocket has been launched ! The Reapers are here, and our second group is heading to Commonwealth... This is one of the best episodes of The Walking Dead, hands down. Josh McDermitt gives a stellar performance, one that will be remembered for sure. It's sad and heartfelt, and it made me love Eugene even more. On the other hand, Yumiko shows how much she can outsmart the auditors. She is a force to be reckoned with, and her story is awesome.

Acheron : Part II is absolutely brutal. The dialogue is cold as hell, and the horror is shown in multiple ways. Gage's death was reminiscent of Noah's in season 5, and extremely gruesome. The group's decision to let him die is pretty insane, and the show actually made me feel bad for him, which is something in itself. The end of the episode was terrifying and done well. The lighting was stunning and spectacular, and enhanced the train car scene, in what reminded me of a No Way Out situation. Once again, the directing and the editing excelled.

Checking all these boxes : emotion, smart characters, great dialogue, excellent lighting, intensity, horror, shocking deaths, directing, editing, pacing, story, and more. And the next episode looks even better, like... how is that possible ?

Good episode

Warning: Spoilers
The action showed itself periodically throughout the episode. The character development was well illustrated (Maggie's story) and events unfolded quickly and remarkably in the commonwealth.

Too much Maggie
vam-vm30 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't buy Maggie as someone who inspires such dedication from her followers. When the show concocted that stupid excuse for her absence as she starred in an awful network series that was immediately canceled I was not a Maggie fan after that. It made no sense for her to just up and leave the hilltop.

When she makes a crowd pleasing return looking like Indiana Jones I almost laughed. Then she somehow finds a way to go thru hundreds of walkers to get to Gabriel and save the day. Ridiculous. But, the icing on the cake came last night, after unquestionably being besieged by walkers she somehow emulated a Glen move and miraculously turned up alive and kicking. The writers should be embarrassed by putting forth that tripe.

Really Mediocre Episode: Expected More Storywise
panagiotis199318 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Negan left Maggie to die and they pretty much did nothing about it? That's weird. I thought that Maggie would try to kill him. How is Negan supposed to gain the group's (and Maggie's) trust by doing such things? I love Eugene's performance in this episode and im really glad he actually got to meet Stephanie. I really would like for him to find love. Ezekiel and Yumiko don't do much in this episode. Sadly we still have to deal with the super annoying character called ''Princess''. The Commonwealth dude says to Eugene, Yumiko, Ezekiel and Princess that they '' have successfully completed processing '' whatever that means...

Still after so many episodes we don't really get much information about the Commonwealth, their lifestyle, laws, their army, resources etc. What we get is lots of teasing. While this episode is somewhat entartaining, not much happens storywise, the first group spends another episode in the tunnels and the 2nd group still has to deal with the Commonwealth's weird bureaucracy, I expected more. This episode is not the best, it's mediocre. I wonder how it has a higher rating than Acheron Part 1, which was an amazing episode. The only exciting thing was the ending with the enemy group approaching. My rating is 6/10.

plot armor level is high
ungureanufabian2 February 2022
Maggie makes it out somehow from the crowd of zombies (plot armor).

AT some point a door is stuck, but instead of trying to break the glass and move the chair out of the way one of the big guys tries to smash the metal door in order to bend it. It always amazes me how walkers brake every god damn door with the power of friendship.

The thing that really made me laugh my literal ass out was Gabriel aiming with his blind eye xD.

Better than part I, and more harrowing than ever.
Alakai_calico24 August 2021
Acheron is essentially a feature length horror film, and part II is the sweet release of its forerunners built-up tension. With cinematography, editing and macabre nature arguably unmatched thus far in TWD, Acheron sets an eerie tone for the remainder of season 11. Angela Kang and gang seem to know what they're doing, and if they maintain this confidence throughout the next 22 episodes, were in for something truly special.

Acheron: Part 2 brings tension, quality drama and terrific action sequences - Lauren Cohan and Josh McDermitt's performances are truly brilliant
Holt34430 August 2021
Acheron: Part 1 followed two storylines: The group led by Daryl and Maggie in search for supplies and food, and ended with Negan letting Maggie fall to her supposed death as she was surrounded by walkers. Meanwhile the other story followed Eugene, Yumiko, Ezekiel and Princess as they found themselves in captivity of the Commonwealth, their escape led them out to an alleyway where they found a notice board of The Wall of the Lost where Yumiko's brother had placed a picture of her, Heath's name was also on the notice board and that can possibly mean that he's in there or that he has a family member there overall a nice easter egg. Acheron: Part 2 is a direct follow-up to Part 1 and continues where last episode left off.

Kevin Dowling returns to direct the second part of the season opener titled "Acheron", superb direction and the writing is excellent even exceeding the previous episode that also had great writing. The cinematography is simply perfect and breathtaking, the production design is brilliant. I don't have any real problems with this episode, only one that is an occuring issue in The Walking Dead and it's just that they don't show any recoil for the firearms. But it's easy to look past that when everything else is superb.

There's plenty of action in this episode, wonderfully done and the zombie killing is shot in an amazing way which shows the team work of our beloved characters, Daryl completely kicked ass in this episode. The acting was phenomenal and I would say that everyone gave great performances but the ones I found to be truly breathtaking were Lauren Cohan and her monologue it was simply astonishing and the same has to be said for Josh McDermitt, I think he gave one if not the best performance as Eugene. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Norman Reedus and Callan McAuliffe also is worthy of praise. I really like the expanded role Negan has now in this season, it works perfectly with Maggie's return and dare I say that they're very similar now after everything Maggie went through in the years away, one of the events that impacted her the most is told through the monologue Lauren Cohan does and she was terrific as Maggie.

Acheron: Part 2 is an incredible episode that has something that everyone will like. The writers and director kept the tension going from start to finish, it wouldn't have been as perfect if it wouldn't be because of the first episode that served as more of a build up than a standalone episode. "Acheron" have been a terrific start to the eleventh and final season.

Warning: Spoilers
Omg I really loved this episode and the prev one but this one feelt like the old twd even better. Our characters have all ghosts to fight Negan and Maggie start to bond and all of them just so happy to se twd back. But my god chills chills when Daryl was in John Wick mode in the train and ended with a big boom there's the Daryl we know! So good episode and at the end the reapers man that was badass and scary reminds me of The Purge. Im so so so exited for ep3!

Acheron Pt.1 and Pt.2 are not only the best opening episodes since season 6, it is also defining moment by setting the quality of this show where it used to be
venusvenus-304607 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I remember staying up till 4am just to watch opening episode of S7 in TWD. It was definitely an experience and after that, the show went downhill. Oh, it went downhill real bad. So bad, that I actually skipped some episodes while watching S8. The show what I loved, turned from amazing to your average bullshit show with shitty writing, poor action and being all-predictable mess. Best episode in S8 was the last episode, because it finally ended the dragging saviours storyline.

And then S9 came, I didn't have high hopes but the first half of the season ended up being pretty damn good. Yes, the problems were still there but if there was one word what I would describe it, it would exciting.

From that on, the show have got some great moments, but the quality of the show has still felt clumsy and awkward time to time. But it was definitely wayy more than watchable and after S8, almost anything would have felt better. The show never reached the magic it used to have, but I never expected it.

Until now. And it isn't exactly the same magic. But the quality, it is there.

Great writing, no, amazing writing. Good action, oh yes. Actually feeling thrilling and terrifying, yes! These two episodes, especially the second one were just so on point, I honestly cannot find a single flaw.

Or well. Negan's decission to leave Maggie and then them being like "naw we cool", you can argue about that but that's just fine for me.

Anyway, I haven't felt like this while watching this show since S6 premiere. Will this last throughout the whole season? Eh, I don't set my hopes up. But I am so glad we are getting ending to this show and so far, it is looking great.

Great episode !
christopherhq24 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was much better than the one before. It has great ambiance and with the kid's death, it makes everything darker.

Positive : The ambiance is great. I love when they are in the wagon and they are surronded by the walkers. Gage's death, even if i don't care about the character, makes the episode darker because the thing to see the death coming... Alden is not boring. Daryl's part is cool too and the gun scene is badass. The fight against the walkers and the others. Negan and Maggie are finally in a stable relationship. And the end with old man taking the bullet reminds of Axel's death or denise's death, the way of a surprising death and being afraid of a too long scene because you're scared to lose someone from a bullet... And the reapers entrance makes me want to see the next episode. The commonwealth is still good. Stephanie and Eugene made me smile. Yumiko gets some nice character development, she's the only one with Connie to have some importance from Magna's group since season 9.

Negative : Maggie's backstory was boring to me, it was too long and it would have been better if we had flashback to see the corpses and being really touched by that. The grenade was awful, how the wagon or the glasses do not break with the explosion ? Daryl going out for dog to make a "deus ex machina" is a little too much. Too bad the deaths weren't about people we care for. Even if i love Princess, she makes everything in the Commonwealth less stressful, frightening...

This a 7.5 or 8/10 episode. The part 2 is always better than the part 1 and TWD succeeded.

The ones who didn't like this episode are the bot accounts of a 12-year-old boy.
ivoamarilla30 August 2021
This episode is a gem, the cinematography is very well cared for, the pacing very well, the plots between the Commonwealth and the subway quite well balanced, one serves to show the survivors fighting the walkers, the suspense and the other serves to lighten the episode and that it is not very heavy, a great chapter, a shame for these haters who give a score of 2, they did not bother to watch the chapter, well, ignore them.
