Huge spaces, wildlife and cattle breeding.
zutterjp4816 January 2023
An interesting journey through huge spaces, wild seasides , glaciers and mountains.

We meet Pascale Taillieu, a Belgian woman who is harvesting the "calafate" berries to make jams and liquors. About 3000 Croatian people have arrived at Punta Arenas at the beginning of the last century and Olma Vukasovic Kovasic maintains the tradition of Croatian cooking.

In the Argentinian Patagonia Merlin Lipshitz has discovered the place of El Chalten where there are great cliffs and is now mountain guide.

Carla Rohers, daughter of a cattle breeder is now "gaucha" and practice also rodeo.

Then we have the famous road 40 in the Argentinian Patagonia; a Chinese tourist in a bicycle , a couple who goes for shopping. A road crossing great spaces and suddenly the cafeteria of La Leona: There lives Laura Kargauer who manages his place and tells the story of the short visit of Butch Cassidy.

In the Strait of Magellan Gabriela Garido and her colleagues collect bones of the animals and now the museum of natural sciences shows skeleton of some whales and birds.

En El Calafate there is the famous restaurant Mako : the chef Matias Villalba offers can eat lamb, Patagonian hare or wild lama meat. Besides Pablo Federico Morresi produces under greenhouse organic vegetables.

We pay also a vist to the Glacier Perito Moreno, an impressive glacier falling into the lake Argentino: the tourists may walk on the glacier using crampons or make a cruise near the glacier to see how the ice blocks are falling in the lake.

I enjoyed very much the encounters of Ismaël with Paulina Escobar, the fashion designer (we see the sheep in the Peninsula estate , later the wool and the knitter women in Puerto Natales ;she uses "calafate" berries to dye the wool), with the García family in the Mercedes estate (horseback riding,, organic garden and grilled lamb for supper), with Claudia Alejandra Cardenas and the kayak trip (sea lions, humpback whales, the lighthouse of San Isidros), with Victor Manuel Lopez, (visit of the town of Punta Arenas : cimetery, statue of Magellan, statue o the Unknown Indian ) and then the boat excursin to the Tucker islets (Magellanic penguins) and the Cape Horn,on the Island of Hornos they see the chapel and visit the lighthouse (a man , his wife and their 3 children live there all the year).

I appreciate the kindness of the Patagonian men and women.
