The BBC and production company Shine were forced to edit out a contestant on an episode of MasterChef: The Professionals due to what a spokeswoman described as “unforeseen circumstances.”
Season 13, episode seven of BBC One’s cookery show was preceded by the message: “This program has been edited and features 3 of the original 4 contestants who took part.”
The notice sparked speculation online about why the chef was removed from the show, but a spokeswoman said it was related to a private matter. Deadline understands that the issue was health-related.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances concerning one of our contestants, the programme was edited to remove their appearance,” the spokeswoman said. She declined to comment further.
Deadline revealed back in July that the MasterChef franchise was back in production for the BBC in the UK following the coronavirus production shut down. Filming took place at 3 Mills Studios.

Exclusive: Fox’s food competition format MasterChef was forced to shut down in March having filmed half of its 11th season.
The show, which is produced by Endemol Shine North America and One Potato Two Potato, is now eyeing an October return to filming.
Deadline understands that the current plan is for production to pick back up around mid-to-late October. This would hopefully allow star and executive producer Gordon Ramsay, one of the judges, to return to LA from his home in the UK. As to be expected with all shows, this schedule remains flexible depending on the impact of the virus over the next few months.
The show, which will feature 18 episodes, will be produced with health and safety protocols front and center. Crew will wear PPE equipment and there will be the, now standard, Covid-19 testing and social distancing.

Exclusive: MasterChef is officially back in production in the UK after Shine got cameras rolling on spin-off show MasterChef: The Professionals last week.
Filming is underway on Season 13 of the professionals’ franchise at 3 Mills Studios in London, with Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace resuming their hosting and judging duties — albeit with a socially distanced twist.
MasterChef: The Professionals is the first of the UK MasterChef brands to go into production in the pandemic era. Celebrity MasterChef is currently broadcasting on BBC One but wrapped just before lockdown in March.
3 Mills Studios has been MasterChef’s home in the UK for a number of years and it is understood that the large studio space used to house the show has been an advantage in getting production underway.
A MasterChef spokeswoman said: “We are ensuring that all Covid-19 filming protocols are being adhered to as set out in industry-wide filming guidelines published last week.

Celebrity chef Michael Roux Jr has criticised the "hypocritical" and "two-faced" BBC.
Roux Jr discussed the broadcaster's decision to replace him as presenter of MasterChef: The Professionals earlier in the year because of a "conflict in commercial interests".
The dispute with the broadcaster arose due to his commercial agreements with Albert Bartlett potatoes.
Speaking to Business First, Roux said: "My view on the BBC is that they are run by a bunch of bureaucrats that adhere to an outdated editorial policy."
He added: "And I do feel that they are hypocritical and that they are two-faced. There are lots of other TV presenters - not just chefs - who endorse products openly, do not toe the line and are allowed to get away with it.
"There were so many precedents to this situation of openly endorsing a product for financial gain - several outrageously big precedents before me - but...

Marcus Wareing has signed up to become a new judge on MasterChef: The Professionals.
The culinary expert - who has two Michelin stars, winning his first at the age of 25 - will join Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace on the panel when the show returns later this year.
He takes over from Michel Roux Jr, who was forced to quit the series because of a "conflict in commercial interests" and later complained that "negotiating with the BBC can be a frustrating process".
Wareing, who began his career at The Savoy when he was 18, already runs two restaurants in London and will open his third - Tredwell's - in September.
"I have been watching MasterChef since I was a young kid at catering college, and in more recent years I have enjoyed an established relationship with the programme," Wareing said.

If the 3rd annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards could be categorised as a David vs Goliath battle between The Rocket and The Great Gatsby, Goliath is the hands-down winner.
Baz Luhrmann.s opulent romantic drama won six awards tonight, for best film, director, adapted screenplay, lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio, supporting actor Joel Edgerton and supporting actress Elizabeth Debicki.
That.s in addition to the six awards in craft categories plus the Aacta award for outstanding achievement in visual effects bestowed on Luhrmann.s film on Tuesday.
Kim Mordaunt's The Rocket, which had 12 nominations versus 14 for Gatsby, had to be content with just one trophy, for Mordaunt.s original screenplay.
The outcome is likely to reignite the debate about the near-impossibility of comparing a lavishly-mounted 3D film financed by Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures, which cost $160 million, with an independently-funded Lao-set film from a first-time director budgeted at about $2 million.
