Paramount+ has renewed superproducer Taylor Sheridan’s spy thriller “Lioness” for Season 2, the streaming service announced Thursday.
The renewal comes with a slightly modified title; previously the show was known as “Special Ops: Lioness,” leaving open the possibility that it could be an anthology series focusing on a different special operations team each season.
But the original story will continue, and stars Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Michael Kelly, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman. Saldaña and Kidman will continue to serve as executive producers, and Freeman will be upped to series regular after recurring in Season 1.
The series also stars Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, Lamonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, and Hannah Love Lanier.
“Lioness” tells the story of Cruz Manuelos (De Oliveira), a Marine who is recruited into the CIA’s all-female Lioness program and sent to infiltrate a terrorist organization by befriending the suspected leader’s daughter,...

Taylor Sheridan is now an in-demand filmmaker who has created his own TV empire at Paramount. He is the creator of the network’s flagship show Yellowstone and its spinoffs 1883 and 1923. He also created other successful shows for the network including Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and Special Ops: Lioness.
In addition to being the creator of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan also starred as Travis Wheatley in the show
Before Yellowstone, he directed the neo-Western crime drama Wind River starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. While Yellowstone has a much bigger scope and narrative than the film, Sheridan found making the film far more challenging than the series as he had no financial support and limited time to make it.

Nicole Kidman may find that even heartbreak feels good in a movie theater, but the Oscar-winning actress is not going to find herself directing one of those films for the silver screen.
Kidman told The Hollywood Reporter while being honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award that she is aware of the fact that she “would be a terrible director” — in part due to her indecisiveness. Kidman has produced a slew of TV series such as “Big Little Lies,” “Nine Perfect Strangers,” “The Undoing,” “Love & Death,” “Special Ops: Lioness,” and “Expats” through her Blossom Films banner. She’s pretty good at that.
“I feel like I would be a terrible director because I always have so many ideas. A director has to make choices, and that’s not my strong suit,” Kidman said. “I’m very good at being passionate and supporting the voices and reading a script and going,...

Before making your 2024 Emmy predictions for Best Drama Series, take a tour of our photo gallery showcasing the leading contenders. Currently at the top of the heap is “The Crown,” which is looking to repeat its 2021 success in the category now that 2022-2023 winner “Succession” (which ended last May) is out of the race.
Of the eight shows that competed for this prize in 2023, only “The Crown” can do so this year. “Better Call Saul” joins “Succession” in having concluded during the 75th Emmys eligibility window, while ongoing series “Andor,” “House of the Dragon,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” and “Yellowjackets” will not return in time to qualify for the 76th annual honors.
“The Crown” is indeed the lone past nominee in the mix this time, although the list of hopefuls includes a reboot of 1990s nominee “Quantum Leap” and two spin-offs of 1960s contender “Star Trek,” subtitled “Strange New Worlds” and “Discovery.

Jeremy Renner is back as Mike McLusky in the first trailer for the actor’s Mayor of Kingstown return.
The third season of the Taylor Sheridan Paramount+ series marks Renner’s acting comeback following his near-fatal 2023 New Year’s Day snowplow accident. Paramount+ was called, by some, the Star Trek channel when it first launched, but it rapidly was changed to the Taylor Sheridan channel, as his various series fuel their original programming slate. Thankfully, they are different and distinct, each with its own genre.
After conquering the modern and historic Western, he gave us the gritty Mayor of Kingstown and Sly Stallone’s Tulsa King. Then, this fall, came Special Ops: Lioness, an international espionage story that was (finally) female-centric.
The premise for the ten-episode show is based on a real CIA program, “Team Lioness,” from a Marine Corps program, “created to grant the Marine Corps closer access to women involved in potential terrorist plots,” according to Collider. Is it time to officially anoint Nicole Kidman as the queen of prestige television officially? Because she’s exactly that, and kudos to her and her agents for reading the tea leaves on the shifting industry ages ago. After helping usher in the new era of prestige peak TV with “Big Little Lies,” and following that up with a lot of acclaimed TV work— “Top Of The Lake” for Jane Campion, HBO’s “The Undoing,” “Nine Perfect Strangers” for Hulu, Apple TV+’s “Roar,” “Special Ops: Lioness” for Paramount+, and currently on Prime Video, the series, “Expats” from director Lulu Wang— Kidman has yet another hot TV package in the works that sounds like it’ll be at the top of the most anticipated TV series of 2025.

A long-awaited new series from Taylor Sheridan is staffing up and bringing a TV Fanatic favorite along for the ride.
Kayla Wallace (When Calls The Heart), James Jordan (Yellowstone), Mark Collie (Nashville), and Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia) join Paramount+’s highly anticipated original drama series Landman as series regulars.
We can't count on much these days in the world of entertainment, but we can count on the partnership between Paramount+ and Taylor Sheridan.
Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman, co-created by Oscar nominee Sheridan and Christian Wallace, is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs.
Based on the notable 11-part podcast “Boomtown,” the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big that it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.
Sheridan has previously said he wrote Landman with Billy Bob Thorton in mind,...

Paramount has decided to not move forward with a second season of “Wolf Pack,” Variety has confirmed.
Based on Edo Van Belkom’s book series and created by Jeff Davis, the show follows two teens whose lives are changed when a California wildfire awakens a supernatural creature. Season 1 aired in Jan 2023 alongside the “Teen Wolf” movie. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Rodrigo Santoro, Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson and Tyler Lawrence Gray starred.
Sources say Paramount hoped the audience behind the series would have grown from Season 1 to Season 2, but due to the dual Hollywood strikes, the likelihood of that happening was cut short since production was stopped. Season 2 would’ve arrived roughly two years after Season 1 debuted.
The series serves as the latest Paramount+ original to be canceled following “Joe Pickett,” which ended after two seasons in October 2023. Along with the rest of last year’s cancellations including “iCarly,...

If you tuned into "Special Ops: Lioness" this summer, after watching the rest of screenwriter Taylor Sheridan's ever-growing catalog, you may have come away each week surprised to see the character Two Cups still kicking. That's because the actor who plays the CIA special agent in the Paramount+ thriller is James Jordan, who's become notorious for dying in Sheridan's projects. In fact, when asked about Jordan's recurring deaths in an interview with Deadline last year, Sheridan called the actor "my pinch-hitter, when I need to kill somebody."
Jordan's characters have died memorably in three Sheridan projects and counting, beginning all the way back with the 2017 film "Wind River." The film is a bleak look at the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women through the lens of two white investigators trying to solve a murder, and Jordan plays the despicable party responsible. You might recognize Taylor Sheridan from his role as David Hale on "Sons of Anarchy" or Travis Wheatley in Paramount+'s "Yellowstone," but the actor's work on screen is arguably not as impressive as the stacked résumé of films and television shows that he has written.
Sheridan began acting in the 1990s and took on a number of small roles in various TV shows and movies throughout the remainder of the decade into the 2000s. But his career as an actor never quite took off, which is when he discovered his talent and passion for screenwriting. After writing the pilot for "Mayor of Kingstown" in 2011, he knew that's exactly what he was meant to do. "I was a fair actor, but that's all I was ever going to be," Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter in a June 2023 interview. "Hollywood will tell you what you're supposed to do if you listen.

Amid its quest to slim down its asset portfolio to scale up its core entertainment ambitions, Paramount Global hit 63 million global streaming subscribers in the latest quarter (up from 61 million as of the end of June) and kept narrowing losses in its direct-to-consumer segment to $238 million, a possibly encouraging sign for Wall Street.
The Bob Bakish-led conglomerate, home to Paramount Studios, CBS, Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Nickelodeon, has battled the perception that it’s too small to compete at scale in streaming with giants like Netflix (247 million subscribers) or Disney+ (105 million core subs).
Overall, Paramount reported $621 million in operating income for the third-quarter, up 10 percent from the same frame a year ago. The company also disclosed “nearly $60 million of strike-related idle costs” in its latest quarter amid the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, CFO Naveen Chopra said. “These are incremental expenses incurred to retain production...

Yellowstone‘s final chapter, the second half of its fifth season, will premiere on Paramount Network in November 2024. Additionally, the Yellowstone universe is expanding with another prequel, 1944 (working title). Its premiere will follow the conclusion of Yellowstone.

But the company is also counting on the fact that, despite what users say they want, they’re less likely to cancel their service than they are to simply keep streaming when price increases are enacted.
Netflix has promised a price jump for its ad-free plan is coming. New data from Civic Science shows 39% of current or likely Netflix subscribers would cancel their account if prices rose. Other media CEOs have said price increases have not led to meaningful cancelation rates. Sign Up $6.99+ / month netflix.com Trouble Ahead

The summer of Suits continued past Labor Day, as the legal drama set a streaming chart record for most weeks as the No. 1 overall title.
The former USA series, which streams on Netflix and Peacock, spent its 12th consecutive week at the top of Nielsen’s rankings, which go back three years. It had 2.36 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Sept. 4-10, falling by only 4 percent from the previous week. Suits‘ 12th week at No. 1 overall broke a tie with Netflix’s Ozark, which had 11 weeks at No. 1 over several seasons.
Five titles had more than a billion minutes of viewing for the week, with Netflix’s Virgin River (1.92 billion minutes of watch time) coming in second behind Suits. One Piece (1.39 billion minutes), the streaming debut of The Little Mermaid (1.37 billion) and Swat (1.04 billion) — which jumped 62 percent week to week — also crossed that threshold.

Few details are available thus far, but Netflix is definitely planning to raise prices in the coming months. Save money with these alternatives instead!
The announcement that Netflix was set to begin raising prices in the next few months was likely enough to turn a good Tuesday bad for many users. The company did not offer any details regarding the hike, nor an official confirmation that one was coming, but users should expect their Netflix subscription rates to go up in the near future.
If this price hike combined with Netflix’s efforts to crack down on password sharing have you feeling like nothing more than a set of pockets for the service to plunder, you may be considering canceling the service. If you do, there are several excellent alternatives that come in at a lower price point to help you satisfy your streaming needs.

Netflix’s One Piece sailed to the top of the original streaming series rankings in its first week of release. Suits, meanwhile, maintained its grip on the top of the overall charts.
One Piece, a live-action adaptation of the beloved manga and anime, delivered 1.31 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 3 (it premiered Aug. 31). It ranked first among original series in the weekly rankings, bumping Who Is Erin Carter? (1.02 billion minutes) from the top spot.
The 1.31 billion minutes for One Piece equates to 21.85 million hours of viewing in the U.S. — a little under 16 percent of the worldwide total Netflix reported in its own top 10 rankings for the week. (Nielsen and Netflix use different methods to calculate viewing time.)
Suits racked up another 2.45 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix and Peacock and remained the top overall title in the rankings for the 11th straight week.
