A very nice first effort
planktonrules19 November 2009
This is one of many short animated films that were submitted to the Nickelodeon short film contest for 2009. Constantine Krystallis was responsible for this CGI film and as a first effort, it was very nice. Sure, there were some things that were far from perfect (such as the blocky character animation for the man in the film) but considering it is a freshman effort, it was amazing and I can't wait to see what he'll do when he's gained more experience and skill. Very, very nice.

The film is exceptionally simple. It consists of a Greek man trying to get his stubborn donkey to climb to the village at the top of a very long hill. The animal isn't going to move, so the man comes up with a way to motivate him using the "Zorba's Song" from the film ZORBA THE Greek. It's cute and gave me a bit of a laugh.

It is so Greek than it becomes universal. and this does it one of beautiful/seductive animations. for the inspired animation, for a special donkey, more realistic than its master, for music and for the solution solving a crisis. with not a reasonable price but this is only a detail. for me, it is perfect animation - cure for remind the great landscapes of Greece. and this motif could be for everybody the kick to see "Mariza".

An excellent animation short.

This animated short film from 2008 is one of the most interesting I have ever seen, but I cannot talk much about it as I have never devoted much time to short films. The film is five minutes long and can be viewed on Youtube without any problems.

The film excels in simplicity: on a Greek island, an old man tries to get his stubborn donkey, called Mariza, up a very steep and tiring road with a load of fresh fish to deliver to the village at the top of the hill. The donkey simply decides not to walk, and the owner solves the problem in an original way: as a good Greek, the donkey cannot resist a happy music that allows him to dance, and nothing better than the song from the film "Zorba" for the most stubborn donkey in Greece.

As I read it, this little work by Constantine Krystallis was made for a short animation competition promoted by a TV channel. I don't know if it won, I have my doubts because I didn't find any mention of it. In any case, the film is adorable, has a very genuine tenderness and joy and the technical quality of the animation is quite good, taking into account the budget and inexperience of its author. A good effort, which promises more and better in the future!
