Not the best Star Wars series but still solid
Rob133123 December 2023
Ahsoka may not the best thing from Star Wars that I've seen but it's still worth watching. I was really looking forward to this when I first read about it and the even more so after I saw the trailers. It did not disappoint! I don't consider myself a huge Star Wars fan but I'm a normal fan who does enjoy most of them. Like by most, I really liked The Mandalorian and Andor. I thought those two are some of the best things Star Wars has put out since the original trilogy. I even thought The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi were both worth watching. I don't understand most of these negative reviews, it's like most of the people writing them didn't want to like this. What were you expecting that you didn't get? Anyway, if you're a fan of Star Wars I definitely recommend you give this a try.

Entertaining Enough
Supermanfan-1310 January 2024
I actually enjoyed Ahsoka a lot more than I expected to. After reading all the mixed reviews I was expecting a slow moving, boring show but this was anything but. I was very entertained from the very first episode to the last. I was actually wanting more episodes when it was all ove he r. I know they're already talking about renewing this for another season so I hope they go through with that. The cast here is terrific. Obviously Rosario Dawson is great as Ahsoka but it's the supporting cast which makes this show that much better. It is extremely talented cast with Natasha Lou Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Wes Chatham, David Tennant, the late great Ray Stevenson, and many more. You can tell they put a lot lot of love into this because the attention to detail is very obvious. While it's I not as good as the Mandalorian or Andor, it's still a good show in its own right.

Ah-slow-ka

Warning: Spoilers
A really bizarre sort of project with a real mix of highs and lows. For a Rebels viewer from way back it's genuinely stunning to see that world and (some of) those characters brought into live action with such fanatical diligence, but the glacial pacing and linear makes most of this indulgent trip quite a slog. What this is all leading to feels a little unclear but there's a definitive feeling of "tying up story points" about the whole endeavour which robs it of a lot of magic. That being said, Dawson is excellent as the stoic Ahsoka and a glimpse of her younger self here gives this long-relegated Star Wars side player some shocking context.

Another enjoyably live action 'Star Wars' series
Tweekums21 January 2024
This series features characters introduced in the animated Star Wars series 'The Clone Wars' and 'Rebels' so it would help to have seen those first, I certainly felt I was missing out on something having yet to watch 'Rebels'.

Set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, this series follows Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's Padawan. She believes that Grand Admiral Thrawn is still alive and remains a threat to the New Republic. She acquires a star map that should show his location. Unfortunately it is locked; she is advised to seek the help of her former Padawan Sabine Wren. Sabine has her own reasons for wanting to find Thrawn; when he vanished so did Ezra Bridger, a close friend of hers. Also seeking Thrawn are Baylan Skoll, a Jedi turned bounty hunter, his apprentice Shin Hati and Morgan Elsbeth, one of the last of the surviving Nightsisters. The mission will see Ahsoka and Sabine face many dangers and travel further then either imagined.

Despite not having seen 'Rebels' I enjoyed this. I liked the character of Ahsoka since she was introduced in 'The Clone Wars' and Sabine quickly grew on me. Other main characters, both good and bad, were fun to watch. There is a good amount of action, fight scenes are impressively choreographed and space-based action is exciting without being too overblown. The cast is impressive; Rosario Dawson really captures Ahsoka, a character who is older and wiser than the Padawan we met in The Clone Wars. Natasha Liu Bordizzo is really likeable as Sabine Wren and the late Ray Stevenson puts in a fine performance as Baylan Skoll. As one would expect from Star Wars the action takes place on a number of distinct planets. The end of the first season is very much a cliff-hanger so I'm pleased to hear that a second season is to be made. Overall I thought this was a lot of fun; well worth a watch if you are a Star Wars fan.

Enjoyable "sequel" to Star Wars Rebels
RKParkerson1 January 2024
Having heard many bad things about "Ahsoka," I was a bit cautious about watching it, fearing I would be disappointed. I was worried over nothing as I really enjoyed it! The story by Filoni is solid, the casting and acting is excellent. I particularly found Winstead to be a perfect Hera Sindulla, Kudos to her. Sure, there are going to be some slow parts, what show or movie doesn't have that? You can't have phew-phew gun fights constantly. It's called "pacing." There were a few spots in the light sabre fights that looked a bit weak or tired, but it really isn't anything to complain about. Otherwise the CG effects were movie quality. I hope we get a second season of this.

Some of the worst Star Wars content I've ever watched, and I've watched the holiday special
julianobiwan30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Episodes 1 and 2 were okay but not amazing. They acted as a decent start of the series and mainly felt like they were supposed to set up the rest of the show. I just watched episode 3 and the drop in quality was huge! It felt like nothing happened in the episode. It has been established that Sabine can't use the force, so why do we spend the first few minutes with her attempting to do something that we know only force users can do? Does Ahsoka just expect her to become force sensitive like turning on a light switch? Why is the new republic being run my these incompetent people? Mon Morgan was there in rebels, she knows what a threat Thrawn is. Why is she just standing by with her senator buddies while they're being told Thrawns alive? Shouldn't all of their resources be used to stop another war from happening? Also, where is Zeb!? Shouldn't he be there with Sabine and Ahsoka looking for Thrawn and Ezra? Don't even get me started on Ahsoka floating around in space. Did her face shrink while it was in that mask? It looked like it shrieked. I'll come back to Star Wars when Andor season 2 starts. Until then, goodbye Disney+

Starts Off Slow... But Oh, When It Picks Up
noahbmayfield13 September 2023
I'll state right off the bat that I have never seen an episode of "Star Wars rebels," and only a handful of "The Clone Wars" episodes, so I was naturally caught a little off guard with how well received the first few episodes were amongst Star Wars fans. There's no way for me to sugar coat this, but it was painfully slow. When you take away all the fan service and the joy of seeing animated characters in live-action for the first time, it's honestly a little bit dull. Episodes 1-3 really should have been combined into one, maybe two, episodes.

I'll also throw out the fact that this feels much more like Sabine's show than Ashoka's aside from the frequent Anakin references. I wish Ashoka Tano's character was more centered in a show named after herself. That doesn't drag down the quality of the series though, at least not as a whole.

All that being said, I carried on watching because I do enjoy Star Wars and I quite like the character of Ahsoka based on my limited experience with her. And, boy oh boy. Nothing could have prepared me for how good it gets.

Episode 4 is good, for sure. It's nothing insanely special, but it was refreshing to see the show finally pick up the pace and throw us into the stakes it's seemingly promised us from Episode One. When the credits rolled, I found myself actually wanting to keep watching for a reason other than saying I watched the whole series.

Now, Episode 4 may be good, but Episode 5? I can confidently say that Episode 5 is one of the best pieces of modern Star Wars media out there. It's a perfect reminder that fan service is a perfectly valid form of storytelling when combined with genuinely good writing and direction. Yes, there's plenty of fan service to go around, that even made myself (the casual viewer) lose my mind in anticipation, but the main reason Episode 5 is so good is simply because it was well-put together. It's a beautiful piece of media that truly makes you realize how much potential "Ahsoka" has.

Now, past Episode 5, the show had its ups and downs for sure. The difference in episode quality is noticeable (it seems like Dave Filoni should have just directed them all because his are much better). That being said, while I do criticize how the show starts off slow, the fact that there are tonal inconsistencies, quality gaps, and sometimes the acting seems just a tad bit less-than, I can still say with full confidence that "Ahsoka" is ended up being a spectacular watch.

My advice? Push yourself threw the first three episodes and forgive your lack of past knowledge, if you have my same inexperience with these characters.

I promise you it's worth it.

Good cinematic Star Wars journey
martinpersson973 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was very much anticipating this show - despite me not being a fan really of the titular character, and absolutely not a fan of the Prequel Trilogy at all.

But I did like her role in Rebels, and Disney has overall not disappointed me too much in their shows and movies thus far. And I am glad to say that the trailers more than lived up to the hype of this series.

Unlike many of the Star Wars shows, this feels somewhat like a cinematic return, very much in the vein of the classic mythology of the movies, and there are truly great easter eggs and moments for every socket of fans of Star Wars. It follows up on Rebels, but provides great moments for fans of both the Originals, The Prequels, the Sequels and even some of the so-called Legends stuff.

You don't have to watch the animated shows or be a fan of Ahsoka at all to enjoy this, it offers some good variety. That said, the show does suffer from some of the problems of the other shows, some pacing issues and underdeveloped (yet very good) characterization.

Overall, great cinematography, cutting and editing, great effects and action set pieces, and an overall recommended Star Wars adventure. Not quite up to the par of the first seasons of Mandalorian nor Andor, perhaps. But indeed a good show!

Another forgettable waste of time
ruelshepperd4 October 2023
After Andor showed how amazing a Star Wars show can be when competently written by people with talent, directed by people with creativity and performed by actors with passion for their roles, this show comes along to remind everyone that Andor was a one-off occurrence, an anomaly. Ahsoka exemplifies the (few) strengths and the (many) weaknesses of recent Disney Plus Star Wars shows. It wastes time, it has bland characters and it exists to remind you of better things Star Wars has done.

The plot of Ahsoka can easily be summarised as being stretched beyond belief. The story of Ahsoka and the Rebels crew trying to prevent the return of Thrawn and rescue Ezra could have easily been told in at least 3 or 4 episodes, with the other 4 being used to build to an epic battle with Thrawn. Instead it takes us 8 episodes to set up the next season or movie, instead of resolving the plotlines of this season. It moves at an agonizingly slow pace wherein it doesn't build any of its characters and just serves up meaningless action and fluff.

The characters are mostly bland and one-note. The returning Rebels characters are all far less expressive than their animated characters and the actors all look bored and confused. It's clear the direction they were given was poor since most are competent actors in other projects. Rosario Dawson is wooden as Ahsoka which is a real shame. She reacts to everything with bored indifference. Sabine is now insufferable who basically screws over the good guys more than once and is never called out on it. The only exceptions are Baylon played by Ray Stevenson, and Shin played by Ivanna Sakhno. They're dynamic is legitimately interesting but that is all there is. Interest. They're characters are given lackluster wrap-ups.

Of course this show contains all the fan-service you'd expect. It is all there to hide the clear lack of any substance in the script. The show is visually pretty great but the costumes look so cheap and bland. When the volume is used it is very obvious. Another issue is that no casual viewer can really enjoy this show without having consumed 7 seasons of Clone Wars and 4 seasons of Rebels. The show keeps telling us that Thrawn is dangerous but we are never shown this. Thrawn does barely anything in the overall plot and there is no reason to fear him.

In the end, this is another show with nothing to say. It lacks substance. Two decent characters, pretty visuals and fan service can't save this show from the pool of mediocrity/stupidity of its fellow TV show brethren. Just re-watch Andor.

Peak Star Wars and amazing greatly done fanservice
namob-4367314 September 2023
5 epsides in and it is enough to make a proper judgement of the show.

The first three episodes requires perhaps too much from the viewer because if you have not seen clone war or rebels you might be a bit lost. I also felt like the actors took a while to get warm and really into this, like the acting was only 90% up until the 4th episode. Those are my only two criticisms of this show (so far).

The rest is amazing. The production value is through the roof, the sound design is beyond fantastic, the storytelling brilliant and as soon as you get passed the small "confusion" I mentioned above if you have not seen the other shows, then this is so lovely and so well done I cannot phantom how anyone can dislike it. Episode 4 blew my mind and I thought that was peak of the show, but then episode 5 happened and the emotional ride that took us cannot be described in words. This is what Star Wars is supposed to be. This is so good it has to be compared to the very best of the movies and shows that came before.

The acting which is a bit "choppy" or not tip top initially, become high level performance from everyone as we go along with the show.

I am so happy to be watching this and so far all the hats off for those who created this amazingly great entertainment.

A weak 9/10 five episodes in. That weakness comes from my initial complaints above. If they stick the landing with this show, this might very well become the best they have ever done in Star Wars. That is how good this is.

This cannot be recommended enough. Best TV in a long while.

I feel gaslit
movieturtle201320 September 2023
I usually don't write a series review if not all episodes are released yet, but with Ahsoka, I feel like I have to. So, just as a warning, this review gets a little ranty.

I keep seeing these amazing reviews of people praising this show to be some masterpiece and I honestly don't get it.

I have been a fan of Ahsoka's character since I was a child. I grew up with her and I am so nostalgic about her, especially because she is practically what introduced me to Star Wars, and I appreciate Filoni's handling of her character in Clone Wars and Rebels as much as anyone else. She began as an immature student and grew to be a very wise and independent person. I was thrilled when they announced her live-action show. The cherry on top was that Thrawn would be the antagonist. That being said, I do know her character and liked her from moment one.

And now, with this show, I feel incredibly gaslit by fans who claim this show (especially episodes 4 and 5) is Christ's second coming and praise Filoni for his genius. But I also feel gaslit by Filoni and the show itself. I am certainly confronted with a character I know nothing about whatsoever. Sabine is a different character; Hera is a different character. I get that animation and live-action are different, but naming this difference as an excuse for stale and emotionless characters is just a cheap ploy. All of these strong female characters that were written so well in the animated shows are now blank, emotionless slates with a history Filoni keeps hinting at but never fully explains and it honestly annoys me so much.

With the live-action show, Filoni's lack of writing skill on a line-level becomes painfully apparent, and to distract from that he keeps jangling shiny keys in front of the viewer with these callbacks and nostalgic moments like the Clone Wars or Anakin wanting to teach her one last lesson, which I still don't know what that was supposed to be. When I watched some YouTube videos of fans breaking the episode down and theorising what the lesson could be, I found myself painfully laughing at myself (in a sad way). How come the writing in this show is so bad and opaque that they have to rely on the fans to pull at loose strings and tie them together and hope that everyone then ends up thinking that this was what Filoni had intended from day one? When I tried to think of a possible explanation of what Anakin's lesson was supposed to be about, I couldn't think of any answer that matched what other people were thinking. It is not only that, but I feel like everybody has different answers and not in a way where a writer writes didactically to leave it for free interpretation but in a way where the writer had no idea what they even wanted the lesson to be.

So far, in this show, I have only seen bad writing, bad dialogue, stale acting, characters that are intriguing (Skoll and Shin) but are left so vague for so long that by the end I don't even care where they came from. You can't leave the mystery open for so long and then explain it at the end of the season (if their character will even be explained at all). If there is nothing for me to get emotionally attached to at a certain point, I will not care for the rest of it, even if it does end up being explained. The same is true with the history between Sabine and Ahsoka. What is it? Why aren't we seeing it? Why are the characters just talking about it like it is general knowledge the viewer already knows? (Again, if it is supposed to be written to keep it open for interpretation, it has sorely failed.) There are only two more episodes left and if it does end up being explained in the LAST TWO EPISODES the pacing will be off so freaking bad!! Why wait so long?

The issue I have is the writing. And the writing in a show is everything, so I have an issue with the show. And with everyone pretending this is "the best Star Wars since..." If this is the best Star Wars since the Disney area, then it's pretty bad to begin with.

I don't want to tell anyone that they are supposed to dislike this show. If you enjoy it, great. But I feel so sorely misrepresented in my opinion of this show. It seems like everyone keeps falling for these cheap callbacks and nostalgia bait moments and cheap execution of some character arc I wasn't even sure Ahsoka was on, because, again, nothing about the writing has led me to think that! I get that a lot of things about a story are supposed to be shrouded in mystery to keep the viewers' interest, but at one point, when everything is just plain vague and so unsatisfyingly touched upon and then poorly executed, I really have to ask myself if anyone working on this show had any idea about what they wanted this show to be!

I hope the last two episodes will prove me wrong, but I doubt it. You can't rely on the last two episodes to remedy an entire season of bad writing.

It's way better than Obiwan
Kutalpm23 August 2023
It's better than Obiwan.

Shots look cool.

Score and sounds are ok.

Actors look amazing.

Fight choreography and cuts are bad. Tiktok influencers can do way better than what you get in the first episode. They just don't know how to make it. They need support there.

Story is okay but not even close to Andor.

Andor makes you care and feel so many emotions. For now you can't compare them.

I'll watch the next episode.

This part is about imdb. Why can we not give short feedback on movies. People hate long comments/reviews/articles. That's why we are here and not reading some expert. 600 words is like an essay homework that you copy over from chatgpt. Please reduce it. 100-200 words are more than enough.

Another Dud and a Nothing Sandwich From Disney Plus
MamadNobari974 October 2023
This is another forgettable and mediocrely-written Star Wars show by the best streaming service ever!

It is overall not as bad as Obi-Wan Kenobi and way more well-produced and well-made, but it's still a soulless show that has barely anything to offer.

In order to keep my review of the whole show short and get my points across more easily, I will just list the pros and cons and won't get into details.

So for things I liked first:

  • The music is decent at first but gets kinda forgettable after a couple of episodes

  • The action scenes are well-choreographed and surprisingly well-thought-out, but ultimately get dull

  • The visuals and CGI is pretty good

  • Ahsoka's style of fighting is pretty cool

  • Sabine not being a superhero and gradually getting better but still getting hit nonetheless

  • There are some setups and payoffs and things don't just magically come to aid the characters and also they don't always succeed on the first try

  • The flashback episode was pretty good

  • Bad guys getting a decent screen time as much as the protagonists

  • Ray Stevenson

  • Thrawn's intro

.... and, that's it I guess? I can't really think of other things I liked about the show other than some cool action scenes and some moments here and there. But there is really nothing to like about its characters or the writing in general.

Now the bads and the uglies:

  • Dave Filoni's writing and not having other writers work with him on the show

  • Ahsoka being a black void of a character and having zero personality whatsoever. She's just devoid of any characterization.

  • Sabine getting more screen time and character arc than Ahsoka. Might as well call the show Sabine instead.

  • Sabine's baffling decision-making and having zero plan gambling the fate of an entire galaxy over one person

  • The barebone story and plot that could've even been a 3-episode mini-series

  • Main characters having the biggest plot armor in recent years

  • Bad guys/good guys having the clear opportunity to end each other multiple times but doing nothing

  • Thrawn being wasted and turned into something even worse than a cartoonishly evil character. He is a forgettable terribly-written villain that does nothing and basically runs to his grandmas for help every 5 minutes. They did a terrible job of making him intimidating or powerful.

  • The trope of bad guys having every opportunity to kill the good guys and even getting the orders to shoot but still standing around looking at each other and doing nothing. Even worse is when they do decide to shoot, they stop because the good guy said "Wait"!

  • Maybe too much use of nostalgia-baiting and random name-throwing and references for its own good. It's basically all for the hardcore Star Wars fanboys to lose their mind because they name-dropped Glup --ito and now they think the show is a masterpiece because an old character had a cameo.

  • Ahsoka not feeling like the main character at all and having less and less screen time every episode

  • Ahsoka having a semblance of a character arc which turns her into a worse character with having a more baffling mentality of actually agreeing with Sabine's stupid choices

  • Introducing the element of witchcraft which makes it feel less like Star Wars. I understand that the Jedi are basically space wizards. But this is just too un-Star Wars-y, and feels like they don't know how to make interesting stories with Star Wars anymore, so they resort to throwing every genre at it.

  • The story is more like a video game, especially in the finale, because there isn't much meat to the story so they have to resort to video game storytelling and level design instead of actual good writing

  • Forgettable dialogue and sometimes even childish

  • The pacing is pretty bad especially in the beginning with many pointless drawn-out scenes where characters just stare and do nothing

  • Too many action scenes in the second half of the season that get boring and dull after a while

  • No tension whatsoever. There are no stakes because you know the outcome every time and an action scene without any tension of stakes is a boring one.

  • Not giving a good characterization to the main protagonists, or a reason as to why the audience should care about them for those who haven't seen the animated shows.

  • Uninteresting story a show overall since you don't care about any of the characters.

  • Unfinished storylines and plot when the show is advertised as a mini-series. So basically the nothing sandwich of a story also didn't have a conclusion.

  • Did I forget to mention how awful and forgettable the characters are and how terribly written they are?

These are the problems I can think of right now. I'm sure if I got into details I would remember more problems I had with it, and the review would be 5 times bigger than this.

But overall, I'm not sure what the point of this was. Basically, everything from this show is forgettable and I feel like I'm being generous with giving it a 6. I do not care about the characters especially Ahsoka herself and I'm just observing them from afar and not caring about them at all. The plot is really thin and how it unfolds and things happen is only because of the stupid decisions Sabine makes. The only interesting and intriguing character is Baylan Skoll which is all because of Ray Stevenson's acting. But they waste him and his character so badly too.

I understand if they're trying to prepare a new trilogy of movies maybe? Or a season 2. But this was the worst way to go at it, especially since they botched the main bad guy from the start by making him as unintimidating as possible as if it was on purpose. They really dropped the ball with Thrawn.

I'm not sure what the point was, but as long as Disney isn't willing to hire actual professional writers who know what they're doing, this is what we're gonna get with the shows and the movies. The shows apart from Andor have been nothing sandwich after nothing sandwich with barely any story to them. Basically, drop some references and names here and there and show some cool action scenes, bring back old actors from the prequel trilogy and utilize them as much as you can, and nostalgia-bait really hard so fans would lose their minds as they just witnessed a masterpiece because there was a cameo. Also don't forget to make the most forgettable and black holes of characters you've ever seen. Congratulations, you just made a $100M Star Wars show that will definitely turn a profit and be called an actual good show by the fanboys.

This fell on its face fast
zimmerblake26 October 2023
This series started out very interesting. Ahsoka seemed cool and confident and the new sith had an edge to them that felt dangerous. Then it got bad. Really bad. These characters are awful and have no substance whatsoever. The sets look top notch and then the characters look like they are from a high school play. They act like it too. Whoever plays Sabine Wren is a joke. Every scene she was in was immediately ruined and the actress had no ability to make Sabine the tough rogue she should be. Now Sabine is an ignorant whiny brat. The sith duo quickly lost that dangerous edge and simply became edgelords. It's clear the creators were just hoping people would be so mesmerized by ahsoka being live action now that they wouldnt mind the lack of excitement or talent. Mr. Krabs has a role though so that's nice.

The Force is Female? And it's underwhelming!
duanerocks24 August 2023
Wow,what do you say about a series with a very much loved character, who doesn't even show up in her own series? At least not the Ahsoka that I watched 'n the great Clone Wars and even better Rebels!

This is what I should have expected coming from the Disney Star Wars, as they've taken the brand and ruined it beyond the point of it ever coming back to it's former glory when George Lucas ran things! While I'll be the first to say George wasn't the be all end all for his own property,he still did it much better than Kathleen ever could, like everything about the first two parts we're just style over substance as for the acting ability of females? Left me feeling underwhelmed and sad that they cannot do anything right! Whether the series improves is anyone's guess, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

They did Sabine Wren dirty
cocobinay10 September 2023
Overall, I like this series for being a nod to the fans who watched the animated series (Filloni's revenge!!). Rosario Dawson's Asohka remains the same tenacious capable Jedi dropout we all love. That's the reason I'm sticking with it.

But, in so many ways, this series also feels like a stepdown from the narrative impact Rebels had, and the maturity or authority these characters developed over it's run.

In SW Rebels, Sabine Wren matures over the course of the series to a responsible formidable adult, who could hold her own with Gar Saxon. But in this new series, she's a petulant impulsive teenager shirking responsibilities and unaware of consequences.

The same goes for Ryder Azadi, the Governor of Lothal, who is here taken from an imposing seasoned leader and reduced to a Jeff Goldblum Grandmaster knockoff. These changes didn't need to happen, but they come off as grating since the show is intended to be a nod to the fan who'd know these characters, and presumably be fond of them.

Why? Bad writing and poor direction=BLAH.
Ross84 September 2023
Within the first paragraph of the spoken word, the series felt doomed. 0h, then it got worse. Until they come up with a workable script and directors who actually know what they're doing, I'm done with this one. Perhaps the people who have done this have no idea what they're doing. I feel sorry for what few good actors there are in the show. I was excited about it because I believe Zoe Saldana is one of the better actors out there. At this point I really can't think of anyone who is worth watching. I've loved others Star Wars shows but they all have a bit of an edge. This one is absolutely, positively too dull.

Another Good Series to Make Up for the Bad Ones.
MovieBuff54546 September 2023
Ashoka follows the in the right footsteps. Thankfully so. I was disappointed in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and also disappointed in The Book of Boba Fett. The Mandalorian was great in the first two seasons. Andor was spectacular and so far, my favorite of all the TV shows. Thankfully, Ashoka is a solid series that harks backs to the right standards. Hopefully, it will continue on this track throughout the entire series (I've finished with Episode 4). And Hallelujah! The brought back Captain Carson Teva who is one of my favorite minor characters. I'm slightly disappointed in the portrayal of Hera Syndulla. We'll see if she develops in the rest of the series.

True Star Wars
marianciobanuz23 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, we have a Star Wars tv show with light sabers and Jedi, with other characters than the ones from the movies. I was surprised by the quality of the series and i'm actually dissapointed by the harsh reviews, even if the main fanbase seems to love the series, because it has already a very strong rating, but i think there are some 'fans' which can't be never pleased, because the series is not either too slow paced or too superficial, i was very baffled to read this in the reviews. My favorite character until now is Sabine because she is so cute and hot, but the cat and the droid are great too and the main theme is great even if i think the start of the song should be more repetitive, you know, like the ones from Star Trek Voyager or Star Trek Deep Space Nine because i would loved to learn it. Probably a strong young and handsome male main character would be a great addition for the show, just watch the Rebel Moon trailer and you will get the ideea, but we already had Andor so a little diversity it is not a such a bad thing. I'm blown away until now by this great epic tv series and let's not forget the landscapes and the sets which are absolutely spectacular.

kinda dumb
cherold28 August 2023
Ahsoka is, for most of the first episode, fairly decent. Rosario Dawson is a rather muted hero, but there's a good fight scene early on and I thought the general was an appealing character.

But the character of Sabine makes no sense. She starts by doing something rebellious for no other reason than to show that, yeah, she's a rebel just for the sake of being a rebel. Later she does something blatantly idiotic that results in exactly what you expect to happen. And once again, the reason for her decision makes no sense.

If the rest of the episode were great then I might forgive it a blitheringly stupid turn of events, but nothing else made up for that foolishness.

I hadn't planned to watch anymore, but then someone on social media raved about how the series really took off in episode 4, which was directed by the guy who did the first Spider-verse movie. So I checked that out. And it was not remotely better than episode 1. Sabine was still stupid, the characters were still bland, and I was generally bored throughout.

Should have gone with my first instinct.

First two eps a very solid beginning.
mheapy23 August 2023
Very solid beginning to the show , I absolutely loved Rebels so this new show starts by introducing all the characters very familiar ones as well as new , looks fantastic as well with lots of throw backs to StarWars Rebels , Ahsoka Tano looks great just as she has done in previous live action shows but now add Chopper , Sabine and dare I say the extremely sexy General Hera Syndula , damn Mary Elizabeth Winstead looks hot as hell as a Twi-lek , absolutely love the Lothal cat , The late Ray Stevenson holds the screen extremely well and has enough menace and melancholy about him for his character to hold your interest , some scenes are a touch slow but I hope it's just taking its time to build the story for us , Overall I'm highly anticipating the next episodes and if the first two are anything to judge by it looks like Ahsoka is gonna be a pretty special Dave Filoni addition to the StarWars galaxy , Can't wait for the Rebels crew to be back together but I'm guessing I'm gonna have to wait a while for that reunion scene .

The Perfect Mediocracy
Engerek0124 August 2023
What I've seen in the first two episodes is the definition of mediocracy. It's not bad, it's not good, just hanging somewhere in between.

The story so far is non-existent. There are some bad guys and... that's it.

Writing is horrible. The character interactions were pretty much the most boring I've seen in a very long time. It was painful to watch sometimes. It was that bad.

Forced wisdom... is the worst kind of writing.

Logic has left the show. When I saw Sabine, one of the smartest fighters in the SW Universe, punching a robot in the face, I immediately lowered my expectations. After that, it even got worse. She's definitely NOT the Sabine I knew from the Rebel series.

Acting is also generally ... bland. Even Rosario Dawson seems off as Ahsoka.

But there are also good things.

CGI and scenery are breathtaking.

David Tenant is amazing as the voice of Huyang. God I love this man.

The show has some promise of mystery in the distant horizon, and that's what encourages me to watch more. If they can deliver, the show can get a lot better.

Star Wars "experts" need to chill
steefan-928 September 2023
This show is monument to Ashoka that started from animated TV shows, and finally got her own dedicated place but most of all, to Star Wars Rebels crew, another animated show that sparked some of the best story lines and characters.

The cast is faithful to characters that were built as we know, the plot is giving something we wanted for the long time ever since Star Wars Rebels concluded with open end. And keeps the spark of this milked franchise.

It has literally everything, simple overarching goal to follow, action and good casting. Purposeful plot.

So what is all this rave about? It's not a flop as last Mandalorian season, they continue to build "New Republic" place in aftermath of previous tribology but smarter,

The only reason why rate this any lower than it really is resonable, is because you don't like the character and see main cannon characters.

Great Special Effects, Slow Pacing and Plot Issues
TMAuthor2329 August 2023
I'm going against the tide here, but this series has started off like some of the failures before it.

For every Andor (great!) we get a Boba Fet and season 3 of the Mandalorian.

Rosario Dawson is a good actress, not a rock solid lead actress. Her work in Luke Cage, The Defenders, Zombieland Double Tap and many others is good. Not great.

In this series she isn't given enough to work with, and the actress playing Sabine is so bad that their scenes together are painful to watch.

The frequent establishing shots using cgi critters is a Star Wars staple and frankly wasted space.

The head scratching bad decisions to move the plot along and put the protagonists in danger are too stupid to ask the viewer to buy into. Jedi ship seems sketchy? Let them board and kill the captain. Old padawan with an axe to grind? Entrust her with the "key" to the secret mission so she can run off with it and essentially get herself killed in the process.

Retread plots anyone? We have a secret map hidden in a device that will lead us to...the Death Star's fatal flaw...the empire's hidden fleet...Luke Skywalker...the hidden empire general that could undo the alliance...you get the picture and we've seen this way too many times.

And one thing I struggle with, whether it's Star Wars, Marvel, or DC is the scale and balance of character battles. Ahsoka handles some assailants easily, and then seems challenged by one, or two canon fodder baddies for no apparent reason. As with other Disney created Star Wars series, that inequality exists here too. Too often.

I doubt that I'll be motivated to watch another episode.

They can't be serious, can they?
kuner-5902925 August 2023
After the surprisingly good Andor and the excellent Jedi games, it briefly looked like Star Wars had potential to get back on track.

That didn't last long.

We're back to awful CGI, bad acting, bad choreography, cheapo sets, bad rotoscoping, zero production value and peak wokeness.

In Disney production, you can always tell who the villains are by the race or sex of the actor. If he's male and white, he'll either be evil, greedy or incompetent. If the character isn't white, then they are at most misguided or manipulated, and will likely turn good (like Reva). Which kind of renders their whole cliffhanger concept useless. You know how it's going to end.

As mentioned before the production values are laughably bad.

Rosario Dawson is a good actress, and her performance of Ahsoka is probably the highlight of the series along with Ray Stevenson's brief appearance. However, Dawson is 44 years old and not a peak athlete. When she gets runs or does physical things, especially weighed down with heavy wardrobe, you can tell. She looks like an old woman trying to do fantasy actions tuff. It looks bad, and I felt sorry for her.

Another annoying aspect of recent Disney or Star Wars storytelling is the "hidden planet" trope. From Rise of Skywalker to Jedi Survivor to this now, nearly every plot revolves around finding some MacGuffin that leads to a hidden planet.

It's wearing thin.

Worst of all, however, is the pacing. There is soo much filler. People pause after almost every line, and every scene is preceded by long shots of people exiting starships, slowly walking onto tiny sets, looking at or for objects. This fills up the runtime, which is an effective cost cutting measure, but it's extremely boring. The narrative grinds to a halt. You could watch the series on +30% speed, and it might feel normal.

If you want to fully grasp what's going on, prepare to do your "homework". Yes, that's what Disney calls the myriad of series you have to watch to even understand the plot. You have to watch various episodes of the Clone Wars, Mandalorian Season 3, and Rebels to even know the characters, their backstories and relations to each other.

Maybe they could have used some of that screentime from people walking around rooms or exiting starships to give us some backstory or maybe they could have come up with a coherent plot that didn't need any "homework".

Watching these Disney series has turned into just that. "Homework". Watch endless hours of cheaply produced content that in order to understand more endless of hours of crap.

The trailers tease fast paced, exciting, drama filled space adventure. What you get is people standing in rooms, talking slowly, and a few bad CGI fights that look worse than a modern video game.

Actually let me correct myself. It's not even homework. It's a scam.
