Not as fun....
jpickettiii16 January 2021
To me it seemed like another anti-racial skit that was rewrapped and given some extra add-ons to make people laugh. It also felt that the writers and actors were stretching to get the laughs.

I like the show but I am losing interest. When America Feereas (spelling) left I feel that the show lost a huge part of what made it fun.

Hopefully the writers and actors can fill that void before the ship sinks.

I always love seeing more of the security guard and his behavior. the only reason people didnt like the episode is because it focused on black people

Funny, done well.

People act like this is new. I recall a show called All in the Family that explored a lot of racial issues. To say this is today's liberals is disingenuous. This is quality stuff- funny and it forces people to reevaluate themselves and their standing.

Great episode...as long as you don't talk about racism!
pimphand27 April 2021
I love Superstore as a comedy, and how in recent seasons it's made references to current events. I always find it interesting that people don't mind comedy when it's things they are happy to laugh at or talk about, but if it's uncomfortable subjects like racism, all of a sudden they are being preached at... great shows always touch on real world subjects, if you decide you don't like it because it touches a nerve then maybe the problem isn't with the show...

Serious with touch of humor
justindawdy-6435823 January 2021
I like how the show handled something heavy and serious in a lighthearted manor. Garret being the voice of reason this episode was a very nice welcome. It's not perfect... but I really don't understand all the 1 star reviews.

Sitcoms can be funny and deliver a message, this one failed
Sir Gerry9 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Remember when NBC gave us Seinfeld, the show about nothing that actually talked about a lot of taboo things in the 90's? Seinfeld proved you can be funny and include some message and people will accept it, if it is funny. Superstore is a comedy, it's ok if they want to deliver some progressive message but it has to be in the context of what the show has been for 5 years: a sitcom. This episode was just painful to watch, it came across as preachy, only thing missing was Garret turning to the camera and scolding the white viewers. Not funny at all, not a good vehicle for what they were trying to convey. It's bad enough they had to shoehorn C19 in there, but also a lecture on CRT. By far the worst episode of the show.

This isn't anything new

This show has never shied away from politics or relevant topics. Not sure what the other reviews have been watching up until this point. It's always well done and hilarious and this episode was no exception.

Wannabe political statement
taedirish15 January 2021
I've been a fan of the show since it came out and I've been waiting for this episode for months but WOW was it disappointing. Just like every other show on tv these days, the writers feel it necessary to make their statement on politics and racism. This episode was by far the worst one yet. Rather than keeping with the comedy vein of the show, they decided to portray all white people as clueless, wannabe "white saviors" the only attempt at comedy was the side story involving Sandra, and it wasn't even close to funny. NBC, you have no place trying to weigh in on racism and it makes you look pathetic. Hopefully they've got this out of their system and can go back to the comedic formula that kept the show going for the previous 5 seasons.

Great! I don't understand the 1 reviews...
GeorgeTinNYC22 January 2021
This episode was funny, well tempered and topical. It was a return to engrossing comedic timing and topics with the group as a whole, since Ferrera's departure. I don't understand the 1 star reviews. However they mainly seem written and crafted by individuals who do not like to be reminded of what's going on in the world as it relates to their own behaviors. It's ok for us to watch a Covid episode but race, is a step too far? In any case, what is going on thus far has been awesome. I am thoroughly infuriated with America Ferrera, but applaud the writers and cast because they have succeeded in carrying on the show. I also love Tony, Sandra's adopted son. I do know because of how much I love this show, and the parallel it draws from my own life of moving to a random town, and starting over that it won't be on much longer. However, I love Superstore! And I hope it's on for many more seasons.

Love or hate it, you can't ignore it
dmdbop27 March 2021
A divisive episode dealing with white privilege guilt systematic and micro aggressive racism, Kudos to the writers for "Going There" with issues many want to sweep under the rug.

Colton Dunn is at his snarky best.

Episode tells it like it is
bakerstreetdozen2 March 2022
This is the lowest rated episode of the entire series, and I can't help but think that the low scores help prove the whole point of the episode -- which is so sharp-wittedly done. This show has always been political, and has never shied away from talking about racism, so this shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone here. Yet, because it addresses how white people not only don't know how to talk about race/racism, but also experience great discomfort in doing so, somehow it's suddenly gone too far. Again" the low scores prove the point. If this wasn't the truth, there wouldn't be so many triggered commenters here.

SOOOO BAD! What have they done!?
sebeward17 January 2021
Season 6 started out okay dealing with America's departure, but this episode was awful. Pandering and virtue signaling the entire episode. It was a racism lesson that didn't contribute anything to the show. I hope, HOPE the rest of the 'final' season is not like this.

Doesn't really fit, still great
hajosar6 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think this is, controversially, one of the better written ones.

The Garrett/Jonah dynamic (and that of the rest of the staff) is a great take on how the two "groups" interact with eachother about racism. Their dialogue as a whole was a great metaphor.

Although I don't think it's *that* in-your-face, such a political statement at the cost of the usual cynical ""woke"" humour doesn't really fit this series and makes it a slightly uncomfortable episode.

Awkward to sit through
Christopher_Reid5 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's a shame because Superstore did a great job at making fun of various woke causes in previous episodes, especially all the ridiculous rules for Halloween costumes which quickly start to contradict each-other. Is it appropriation or representation/appreciation?

At least this episode acknowledges that "anti-racist" crusades often get lost, become vague or end up explicitly discriminating anyway (usually against whites). And Jonah is the annoying liberal who actually seems to care more about feeling good than anything else.

It doesn't seem to occur to any characters that decisions to lock up products which black people buy might be based on the reality of crime statistics. It's not hard to find hundreds of videos of looting, with a non-random distribution of looters, especially these days. And crime statistics are tracked by the FBI along with many state and city authorities independently.

They assume that stereotypes arise out of thin air rather than realising that real problems tend to grow into stereotypes which reflect the problems.

The subplot with Cheyenne and Mateo was mildly amusing. Most of the jokes missed because everything seemed to take a sideline to the main, shallow and obvious political message.

Balcony Muppet and pizza
safenoe20 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Seasoned imdb users can measure how explosive or provocative a certain episode is by the massive spike in imdb user votes and imdb user reviews, and Hair Care Products you could see a mile away as being in this category particularly with the number of one star reviews that prolific reviewers have taken the time to post I guess to get things off their chest.

Anyway, let's focus on some humorous moments like when Dina dismissively referred to Garrett as the Balcony Muppet and the role of pizza, which is an Italian invention by the way, was a primary, powerful and provocative motif in Hair Care Products.

A low point before the end
nissebror15 January 2022
Superstore has always been political, and it has always struggled with subtlety when it attempts to get those political messages across. When it manages to find a balance, the commentary can be on point and funny. This episode is neither.

It clubs you over the head with heavy-handed political commentary with no actual weight or value. One of the worst episodes of the series.

Jumping the shark.
daves_dogg20 January 2021
Instead of being funny, I feel like I have just been lectured. Instead of jumping the shark, just pull the plug. We tune in to a sitcom, to escape the never ending politics. Instead we are served a double dose!

Unwatchable
alexmorgan31618 January 2021
When this show started, we didn't know the political viewpoints of its characters. Now Jonah has become a leftwing radical who spouts off all the leftwing talking points he can. This episode is that idea for the whole thing. No thanks. I don't need radical left messages shoved down my throat when I watch sitcoms. I hope this isn't foreshadowing for the rest of the series. If it is, then I'm done with this show.

Jump on the band wagon.

Hey superstore writers. You've been doing a great job. Up until right now. I watch the show to laugh and forget the daily grind. So keep the race story lines out of it please. Obviously you felt you had to put the episode in to show your support for all the "injustice" going on right now. Take a knee etc.

Completely skipped the episode after five minutes.

Quit watching after five minutes
yqpjfv6 February 2021
This episode was soooo bad that I had to skip it after watching it 5 minutes. They are clearly just pandering to please the mass but obviously it crashed and burn and clearly the majority of the people agree. The lowest rating in the season.
