Enjoyed Sara's delivery style
beverleyhunniford16 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I assume that it was supposed to have been more than 3 episodes before COVID brought is to a rather abrupt end in Finland.

EP 1 - Cuba...... love Sara's presentation style. She draws our attention to a country where having an old mattress refurbished is a thing in a disposable world where we're in two minds about a refurbished iPhone. On the other hand irreverent look at the Salsa's lesser known competition "the shuffling dance" (sorry can't remember what it was called) - don't expect it to feature on "Strictly" any time soon. And respect to the program makers and Sara for the keeping the rather candid section where Sara had a major sense of humour failure climbing a tree to harvest coconuts.

EP 2 - Georgia......... who wouldn't love a go at driving a train and why would that job be in danger? Spent the day (maybe it was 4 hours) driving the train from A to D ...... "we're going to drive back to where we started". "How long will that take?" The answer was 25 minutes .... ok, I get why that particular line and equipment is surplus to modern requirements. I loved her "can do" attitude to the traditional singing and dancing. Traditional boat building - maybe that particular rowing boat is giving way to bigger deep sea boats or building a boat on the 1st floor of a building not being the best idea out .... I got the distinct impression that the director was particularly keen to show the group of volunteers helping get the boat down the ramp from the 1st floor workshop, I'm sure I'm not the only viewer to notice a few planks missing (I'll just get my buoyancy aid if we're going out in that).

EP 3 - Finland ..... I wasn't keen on this episode. I get the impression it was supposed to air at Christmas time rather than a week or so later. It may have been that they had limited material to edit after cutting filming short. It's time critical element was what global warming is doing to Finland's weather patterns. The episode comes to a rather abrupt end with Sara doing a piece to camera that they were ceasing filming as her and the crew all need to head home due to COVID. Again kudos to the production team for ending it that way. So many programs filmed in 2020 seem to have opted to not to acknowledge that particular elephant......

Looking forward to the next episode.

Sara Pascoe's Endangered Jobs
owen-watts11 January 2021
...makes more sense than Last Woman on Earth as a title. Just sayin.

Otherwise, it's a nice format to wrap a travelogue around, and Pascoe is a charismatic figurehead. She seems incapable of being dishonest or hiding her irritation which is a magnificent quality for a presenter thrown into specific (and sometimes quite dangerous) situations. Examining countries through the medium of jobs that are at risk of being made redundant is a fascinating way to look at them, you meet fascinating people and I learned buckets.

The show (sadly truncated by COVID) is really only let down by the patronizing presentation which makes it feel like its aimed at children. You know, there's a thing unfolding and she narrates what happened to camera so they can edit the latter over the former and make it clearer. That and the abysmally childish animations which are meant to represent her "taking notes".

So, structurally awkward but a solid format and a good platform for Pascoe - hope there's a chance for more when things start to calm down.

Really enjoyable

This show is really fascinating, giving really interesting facts about all these really interesting jobs around the world, and how they are changing. Sara Pascoe is really good in this, as she uses her comedic humour and personality to make it more entertaining to watch.

Office girl spends time in the real world
mformoviesandmore13 January 2021
I watched the episode on Finland. Well, I skipped through.

I was expecting to learn something culturally significant.

All I saw was an 'office girl' being shown, and heavily supervised, to do jobs that many people do as part of life - and will continue to do.

Perhaps it's for an audience that watches those bake-off types of programs. Just not me.
